Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I ate at the Tuscan on the Solstice in February and thought the food and service was great. We were also treated to a show of dolphins playing in the wake which helped. I didn't think it was as good as the Tuscan on the Silhouette, but that was pre-covid so I don't know if that played a part.
  2. My experience was Pre-Covid coming off the Diamond Princess. My flight was departing SYD at 1:00 PM on a Thursday. Looking back at my notes, we were supposed to disembark at 8:00 AM for the transfer. The bus was stuck in traffic getting to the port so we disembarked about 30 minutes late. Absolutely no wait for customs, and no waiting once we all got on the bus. With traffic it took about 45 minutes to get to the airport. Once at the airport there was no wait to check baggage and no wait for security. I was amused by a couple of the travelers. They complained loudly, first that we were delayed getting off the ship, then that traffic was bad getting to the airport and lastly that we arrived at the airport too early.
  3. I am sorry to hear about your experience on the Caribbean, and cannot fault you for wanting to try other lines after it. My 2 cruises since the covid restart have been on the Discovery Princess and I just got off of the Celebrity Solstice. The Discovery was a beautiful ship and service was excellent, helps that it is the newest ship in the fleet. I still will look at Princess first when booking a cruise. My Celebrity cruise was also great, the Solstice was starting to show some age, but the cruise was only 50% full and service was way above anything I had experienced on a cruise ship. I will say that the specialty restaurants on the 2 Celebrity ships I have been on are infinitely better than the Princess offerings. They also cost more than Princess charges for specialty dining.
  4. I am following along, I got off the Solstice the day that you boarded. I am glad to hear service is great, our sailing only had about 1500 passengers and service was way above expectations. Sorry to hear about the mixup at Tuscan, I really enjoyed my dinner there and sounds like you will still get to experience it.
  5. Just off of the Solstice, mine was in the closet on the shelf above the safe.
  6. Just 1 cruise in 2022 for me. Discovery, 7 day, Alaska.
  7. On the Discovery Princess In June I was able to upgrade to the 4 device plan for $5 per day once onboard. It went against my OBC. The app gave me the option the first time I logged in after joining the ship’s Wi-Fi.
  8. I was on the Discovery Princess in June, the wi-fi was the only issue I had with the cruise. I was at least prepared for that thanks to these boards. I am an extremely early riser, was getting up between 3AM and 4AM during the cruise. I will say that the wi-fi was usable when in the Piazza at around 4:30 AM each morning, including the morning sailing into Skagway. I never had any problems with the Medallion App while onboard or before the cruise, my dad had issues just once during the cruise, and my mom had to log off and log back in to the App whenever she wanted to use it. I have an iPhone 13, my dad an iPhone 11, and my mom and iPhone 7. Based on this extremely small sample, it would appear the app works better on newer phones. We did go to the Rock Opera show onboard, I thought it was okay. In my opinion the best Princess production show is still On the Bayou. We didn't go to any other shows, this was by far the most relaxing cruise I have taken. The ship was beautiful and the crew was amazing.
  9. I ordered escargot in the MDR on the Discovery in June, it had snails and was just as good as it had been on all my other Princess cruises.
  10. I really liked the one's they are using for the inaugural season of the Discovery with the white background and the logo in the status color. I think they look so much nicer.
  11. I believe that you can order the medallions up to 12 days prior. For my cruise that embarked on June 19, I ordered the medallion on May 3. I want to say it shipped on June 7 and I received it on June 10, so 9 days before the cruise. With your time frame I agree that you should choose to pick it up at the port.
  12. Yes, you will be able to make the payment online. That is how I did mine.
  13. Just read on another thread that the Encore does not have any tenders, thus why they needed to use another ships.
  14. I was on the Discovery Princess when the slide happened in June, the Encore probably did the same we did. Since they were already tied up to the dock, they could only drop the tenders from the one side. They probably used some of their own and borrowed some from the Noordam. We used 3 of our own and then Holland America lent 3 from the Nieuw Amsterdam.
  15. Ship - Discovery Princess Class - Royal Deck - 9 (Dolphin) Stateroom # - D706 Category - Balcony (BD) Port/Starboard/Bow/Stern - Port Side Mid-Aft Connects With Cabin - No Accessible - No Quiet - Yes Balcony Size - Large (similar to Caribe Deck on Grand Class Ships) View - Unobstructed Privacy Issues - Balcony is 1/3 covered, so can be seen from decks above. Can also look down onto the balconies of the Mini-suites below on Deck 8. Wind - No Issues Soot - Not an issue Problems - None Comments - The location is just off of the aft elevators and stairs, never heard any noise from this area. On my voyage the area just forward was used as the quarantine area, so very little foot traffic in the corridor. Loved the large balcony and spent a lot of time on it, the lack of privacy did not bother me at all. Love that Princess doesn't charge a higher amount for these cabins than the standard Balconies. Would book this cabin again and highly recommend it to anyone booking a standard balcony category.
