  1. Great idea. Proactive, and open to the public. July 23, 10:00am-1:30pm (EDT) https://www.cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/23189-wttc-and-carnival-corporation-present-covid-19-scientific-summit.html?fbclid=IwAR3TWbEkLgL5jSved1GXAk-6Hqv4UdLbZH1aytAO50wtmg-LttCvJpRDnYY
  2. Here's a true story about changing passenger names. A young, unmarried couple check in for a Carnival cruise. The check in agent finds the booking in her computer, and looks at their passports. The male's name is the same as on the booking, however the female"s name is completely different. The agent tells them that the female (let's call her Sue) is not booked. The boyfriend asks what name is on the booking? The agent replies ________ (let's call her Mary). The boyfriend is aghast, and Sue begins to cry (she knows Mary). It seems that the boyfriend had originally booked the cruise for him and his girlfriend-at-the-time Mary, but after they broke up, he invited Sue. He told the check in agent that he had cancelled Mary's booking, and rebooked with Sue. After consulting with a supervisor, the agent said that a name change can be done, but they would need to cancel the reservation,. and rebook, right there and then. The boyfriend said he couldn't afford it, and Sue sobbed even more. The boyfriend was adamant that he had cancelled Mary, and rebooked Sue months earlier. The supervisor called Carnival reservations, so they could look at the booking history. They found that the boyfriend was correct; he had indeed cancelled Mary, and booked Sue. So how did Mary's name get back on the reservation ? After they broke up, Mary learned that Sue would be going on the cruise. Records show that Mary logged in to the boyfriend's Carnival account, and was able to put her name back on the booking with the help of an unsuspecting reservations agent. Carnival waived any name change/rebooking fees for the boyfriend and Sue. They boarded the cruise, and hopefully had a great time.
  3. Has final payment been made ? You can change names if you're outside final payment. The tricky part is the deposit belonging to the cancelling friend.
  4. Differences: 1. Ship design. Princess ships are built out with little outdoor deck space. Most of the public area sq footage is indoors, like a large hotel. HAL ships have more outdoor public space, and less clutter in those areas (pool areas, wrap around Promenade Deck, etc.) The outdoor sight lines allow views of the horizon. 2. Passengers. 3. Shipboard atmosphere. Some say HAL is "calmer" (not older, just calmer). A traditional feel. Less bling and bright lights than Princess. Which one is better ? Whichever one is better for YOU.
  5. NCL hopes to be in Alaska in September. Pride of America could do the job without Canada. https://www.cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/23101-norwegian-hopes-to-cruise-to-alaska-in-september.html
  6. Thank you Crystal Cruises for sending out the survey. It's very appreciated, and I look forward to sailing with you next April !
  7. https://www.travelandleisure.com/cruises/cdc-cruise-ship-coronavirus-new-color-code-guidance "The new system — which will use green, yellow, or red statuses — will dictate how and when the crew can disembark ships based on the status of coronavirus infections and how long the ship has been isolated." Good news, at last.
  8. Friends who cancelled a May cruise on March 31 have received their refunds and FCCs. They were told at the time of cancellation the refund may take up to 60 days. It took 67 days. I understand not wanting to give HAL more money at this time. However refunds ARE being paid out.
  9. Mr Arnold's diplomatic statement is right on: “I think there’s going to be so much more alignment around what makes sense from a public health standpoint regarding this virus in the coming weeks than there has been. The more clarity there is, the easier it’s going to be to organize around it.” The cruise lines have been on hold waiting for the CDC to set plans and policies. They deserve answers and path forward.
  10. Let's hope for the best ! https://www.cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/23077-cruise-lines-set-for-thursday-cdc-meeting.html?fbclid=IwAR0vDR8HbRcJFlx7k8ZcYRYaoSHWhQrxEOcBXfXU-yCvgW12e4vIU4v1TvM
  11. Friends received refunds yesterday. May 16 cruise cancelled by them on March 31. Wait time was slightly over 60 days, which is what they were told at the outset. They're happy !
  12. Still waiting for my $45 refund for PG lunches purchased for friends on an April 18, 2020 cruise, that HAL cancelled. Their FCC's have been processed. I know, $45. 🙄
