  1. Well, in the MDR my husband has ordered surf and turf many times or a pasta dish for the table to share, etc. It has never been frowned upon in the MDR.

When in the specialty restaurant on the Constellation in 2006, he couldn't understand why he could do it in the MDR and they raised such a fuss in the specialty restaurant where he paid extra. Plus, the service was very slow.

But, now I read everything great about Murano and I just don't want him to be upset he can't order what he wants and how much he wants when he is paying $45.00 extra per person.

  2. We are sailing on the Silhouette in 2 weeks and I was wondering -

If eating in Murano are you allowed to order 2 entrees like you can in the MDR?

I really want to try it out, but my husband tried doing that on the Constellation in 2006 and they gave him a huge hard time about it. His second entree came out when we were getting dessert, etc. It was a fiasco. I want to try Murano this trip because I have heard so many great reviews about it, but I want to know if he can order whatever he wants off the menu.

    Thanks for your help.

  3. You are picking a cruise that sails out of Seattle. Leaving Seattle they sail on the outside of Vancouver Island out in the Pacific Ocean where you have a greater chance for rougher seas. Although a lot of people on these boards have reported that their trips out of Seattle have had fine seas so it will be whatever it is at the time.

There is a less chance of rough seas when sailing out of Vancouver and sailing up the inside passage between Vancouver Island and British Columbia. It is a beautiful trip if it is not fogged in or overcast through there.

  4. So happy to get your recent review of the "Silhouette".

We are sailing on the "Silhouette" on March 2. Although, we are doing the Eastern Caribbean itinerary I am still looking forward to your reviews of the ship.

Did you eat in any of the specialty restaurants like Murano & Lawn Club Grill?

Sounds like you had a great cruise so that is really encouraging for our upcoming one. Thanks.

  5. You should get great ideas from your roll call.

Another tip - I went on this itinerary a few years ago. I found out I did not like a 7 day cruise that was that port intensive. That being said we did love it and had a good time.

For St. Lucia - see if your roll call has a group going with Cosol Tours ande join in. When I went there was a group. He does a great tour of the island. We really enjoyed it alot. You do end up at a beach but there wasn't much time there. Glad we hadn't rented a car and navigated that island. Lots of driving and curves getting to go past the Pitons.

You could also probably look up Cosol tours on tripadvisor

  6. This story is much larger over on the St. Maarten board under "Caribbean" in the ports of call section.

There is a person writing sections about their story having contracted the "Mosquito virus" from Orient Beach on December 18, 2013. He was off the Oasis of the Seas. His cruise critic name is wshaw859 and he has quite a story to tell. The mosquito bit him when he was sitting in a shaded area. His next segment should be telling about his illness experience after getting back on the ship. He hasn't written that part yet.

Though you all might find this interesting and helpful.

  7. Sorry I got it wrong stating the U.S. Virgin Islands vs. British Virgin Islands.

I have also read quite a lot under the Ports of Call board Caribbean/St. Maarten. There is a thread on there that is very informative and makes it seem a lot more serious than a Level One alert.

All I am saying is that we need to be aware and it would be good if everyone read that thread. This is how it is titled "So Many Mosquito Threads - News From the Local Paper" and keeps up with the posts through the local newspaper and the CDC.

  8. Our group of 4 are having a hard time deciding whether to tour or not.

A tour sounds good like through Thenford Tours or Island Paradise Tours because this is our first time to St. Kitts BUT also having a total relaxing beach day in paradise sounds great too.

    We are 58, 63, 63, 65 young years.

Any thoughts out there?.........................Like maybe from those that have been to St. Kitts before.

  9. Thenford Tours sounds like the right fit for our group of 4. Now the BIG question is TO TOUR OR NOT TO TOUR.

Maybe we should just use this day as a total relaxing beach day. That also sounds good. We have never been to St. Kitts so seeing some of the island sounded good too. With a beach drop off at the end of the tour, it sounds like we would be pressured for time on the beach and have to hurry back to the ship.

  10. Wow! Does that picture look yummy. Can't wait to go back to Bistro on 5 on our March 2 cruise.

We went to Bistro on 5 in June, 2012 on the Millenium and loved it. I don't remember the name of the crepe but I think it might be the one that is pictured above. It came with bananas and nutella inside and we requested that they add fresh strawberries also and oh my oh my was that delicious.

My mouth is watering right now. It is an all you can eat off the menu, but once we went in and only order one crepe and split it and they didn't charge us the $5.00 cause we ate so little. Just wanted a little dessert.

    Their soups were good too.

  11. Thanks for the replies. I did not realize the foreign port had to be a "distant" foreign port. I thought "foreign" was "foreign" like Vancouver. I wasn't aware there was an issue with how far away the foreign port was.

Unfortunately, I don't remember enough of the "horror" stories but they were experiences of passengers that I read about here on cruise critic being transported in the buses from Ensenada to San Diego and their bad experience with the whole process.

  12. I would love to take that Solstice cruise that goes southbound Pacific coast, however, it ends in Ensenada. Why go through all of that hassle getting from Ensenada to San Diego. I called them up and asked if I couldn't just get off one day early in San Diego and they said "NO". I don't understand it since the ship was already in a foreign port of Vancouver.

Anyone got an thoughts on this one.

I have read too many horror stories about going from Ensenada to San Diego besides the fact that it is a long yucky bus ride that is so unnecessary.

  13. How nice they let you go play in Qsine. I figured it would be all set up for dining.

It certainly is a different type of restaurant. We tried it on the Millenium and none of the 4 of us cared for it. Guess it just wasn't our thing and we did not think it was worth the extra $$$.

Hopefully, we will try the Lawn Club Grill on our upcoming Silhouette cruise.
