  1. Wow. A CCO change after just 6 months. Poor Norbert Stiekema… the issue isn’t commercial performance, the issue is that the product is so much less than what was hyped up over the past 2 years.
  2. Sounds like just a clumsy way of your stewardess trying to say ‘don’t bother with the tap water, I’m bringing you our Nordaq’. I don’t think there was any more to it. The tap water on Seabourn is the same as on any other cruise ship.
  3. We’ve decided the same as Catlover54 and are holding off on any further Explora bookings (following our upcoming Explora I cruise on 20 October) as the new itineraries are of no interest to us. We were keen to look beyond Seabourn but finally locked in our plans for 2024 today and… it’s all Seabourn. Let’s see what 2025 brings.
  4. Thanks for posting but it’s hard to take influencers on a free cruise who use “amazing” in every sentence seriously. Let’s see if they come back to Explora if/when they have to pay $2000 per day.
  5. It’s only a good idea if you are willing to accept any suite incl. the ones all the way upfront (more motion), the ones with slightly smaller balconies and the accessible suites for persons with disabilities.
  6. Explora’s new itineraries are incredibly disappointing. Even if we love our upcoming cruise (20 October - 3 November), there’s absolutely nothing we’re interested in booking as far out as they’ve now scheduled (spring 2025).
  7. Perhaps slightly off topic, but someone commented on a different forum that the 17 (!) sailings from Dubai and Jeddah are all targeting Russians as Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan are all countries that don’t participate in the embargo / don’t actively support the Ukraine, so that’s apparently where wealthy Russians now spent their holidays or (in the case of Dubai) have (temporarily) relocated to. If that’s true, it’s frankly the most disappointing news about Explora I’ve read so far.
  8. Download the Blacklane app and pre-book your private transfer (black car service) almost anywhere in the world. We’ve used it 100+ times, on 6 continents, without any issues.
  9. The only people so far that I’ve seen “rave” about Explora are travel agents and influencers on free cruises. We’re in our mid 40s and our first Explora cruise is 20 October, so let’s see. I’m going with an open mind, but a lot of what I’m reading on here is discouraging.
  10. Given that nearly all of Seabourn’s most loyal, long term customers and lots of its Executives including the President herself are booked on the last sailing from Vancouver to Tokyo, and how big a deal they’re making of that, I doubt they’ll let things run out of hand. I’m still laughing when I think back on how much deep cleaning, carpet replacing and painting was taking place during the two weeks before the President visited this year’s world cruise on Sojourn.
  11. Wow. We’re going in with an open mind but it’s starting to sound like it might be our first and last Explora.
  12. I find that bizarre. Is the Captain visible? Maybe ask him the next time you bump into him…
  13. All Explora 2 itineraries from mid 2024 onwards are cancelled. New itineraries will be announced in 2-3 weeks.
  14. Yes, but you tell your Seabourn stewardess only once which fruits you like, and a bowl magically appears every day. Very different from having to call room service every time you fancy a banana.
  15. No buyers remorse. Any day at sea is better than a day on land. I have however reset my expectations from Seabourn / Silversea to Azamara / Viking. Anything better than that will be a pleasant surprise.
  16. There are no formal nights on Venture and Pursuit regardless of the itinerary.
  17. Heike Berdos is on leave, so it can’t be the same. She returns 29 October in NY.
  18. She’s on leave now, back 29 October. I don’t know anything beyond that, but assuming 3 months on, 3 months off, she’d be on November-January and then May-July.
  19. It really depends on where you are sailing. We lost all reception for ~4 days when crossing the southern Pacific Ocean on Sojourn’s world cruise as, according to Seabourn (I have my doubts) there’s no satellite cover there. Fjords can be notoriously bad. Or docking for the day in a mountainous area.
  20. I took the vaccine at 50. Zero side effects. It’s good for life now. Staying onboard wasn’t an option on Sojourn’s recent world cruise that included many African ports. You needed to have proof of vaccination to board the ship.
  21. I’m going to assume that this is about American passports as only Americans wouldn’t mention their country 🙃
  22. No pool grill would be a huge miss/fail for us. The Patio Grill / E&O on Seabourn is a daily go to.
  23. You are leaving out one important detail. You wrote “250 Mexicans”. You never mentioned “corporate group”. If you had explained that the 250 Mexicans were traveling as a corporate group, you would undoubtedly not have received any pushback. Nobody likes corporate groups taking over cruise ships. Your post however 100% read as anti Mexican, not as anti corporate group. You were even asked what the difference is between 250 Americans (as there are on every Seabourn cruise) and 250 Mexicans, and yet you still didn’t mention “corporate group”. You just posted more criticism of “Mexicans”. Reads like all of that could have been easily avoided!!
