  3. We had a great time with Mega Adventures. I was in the Coast Guard late '60's to early '70's and was an Engineman. We have been sailing on MSC and they also offer 5%+5% discounts. Their Yacht Club is great!
  4. Something your grandsons might enjoy. We were on the Carnival Venezia in November and had a port call in Puerto Playa, DR. Our ship excursion was with Mega Adventures. We rode around the area in the back of 6x6 ex-Army trucks. They also offer zipline excursions.
  5. Thank you Sandi, thank you Roy, thank you Debbie, thank you Vanessa, thank you Ann, and thank you Dixie for all your work. And thank you everyone for being here! My recollection of first watching the "Doctor Who" series was Jon Pertwee. The local PBS station had bought the rights and it was on TV late Sunday evening. But my favorite (like many) was Tom Baker playing the fourth Doctor. "Yes, I'll have a jelly baby!" Stay Safe, and prayers for those in need. - Jack

  8. Yes, I was very pleased to see that they are providing assisted excursions. MSC is also very reasonable with what they charge for excursions. I say this after booking excursions on HAL yesterday for our Fall Transatlantic! We have been extremely pleased with excursions through MSC.
  9. Thank you Sandi, thank you Roy, thank you Debbie, thank you Vanessa, thank you Ann, and thank you Dixie for all your work. And thank you everyone for being here! Just looked at the Port Canaveral webcam and in view is the MSC Seashore. We are excited as we board in two weeks for a week long cruise. Last week we booked two excursions for our port calls at Montego Bay and Georgetown. In looking at the excursions that are available, MSC is the first cruise line I have seen that has non-folding scooter-specific excursions listed for Georgetown and Cozumel! It mentions passengers will ride in an accessible van. Prices are the same as the regular excursion offered as well. Stay Safe, and prayers for those in need. - Jack
  10. We have sailed on the MSC Splendida in YC and MSC Preziosa in Fantastica. Both of these cruises have been in Europe. Of course nothing beats YC but we were pleasantly surprised with sailing in Fantastica on the Preziosa. It does depend on which sailing you are on but I don't think that I would spend the extra money for Aurea sailing in Europe. Next up for us in the MSC Seashore in YC. We like the Fantasia-class YC so we are curious to see if we will like one of the larger ship's YC.
  11. Another pair of votes for Barcelona and Genoa. I actually prefer Genoa for embarkation as it is such a nice city to explore, and the sail away has such a nice backdrop of the city. But you need to either take the train there or a second flight. Barcelona has very nice port facilities and plenty to see pre-cruise. It is very crowded and notorious for pickpockets. We have both embarked there and had a port call. I would not recommend Civitavecchia. We nave both embarked there and been there on a port call twice.

  13. I have not sailed Royal or Celebrity. Instead I used my card from a cruise on HAL that showed my Mariner status. Try again as yesterday logging on to my MSC cruise in two weeks for excursions, it cam up that my cruise wasn't valid. I simply tried again and it opened my cruise docs.
  14. When we did the post-cruise airport transfer in Copenhagen in 2017, the bags were collected as usual outside the stateroom the night before. We boarded the bus the next morning and were reunited with our bags at Kastrup Airport. The bags were held in a secure tent, grabbed our bags, and proceeded with a short walk to the terminal.

  19. Thank you Jacqui, thank you Roy, thank you Debbie, thank you Vanessa, thank you Ann, and thank you Dixie for all your work. And thank you everyone for being here! So sad to read about the crewmember on the Rotterdam. Prayers for their family members. Sue and Louie arrived home later than expected last night. Their SWA flight was delayed over an hour for mechanical problems. Sue did bring home my Bronze Medallion which I should have received if I had been aboard. I have a second chance since we decided it still isn't Sam's time and booked what will be my birthday cruise on the MSC Seashore. Actually it will be two weeks earlier but my birthday is so close to Memorial Day it makes travel difficult. We had the MSC Transatlantic cancelled for Fall so we quickly decided to do this cruise to use a deposit. Stay Safe, and prayers for those in need. - Jack
  20. They will normally not give you the Status Match until you are actually booked on a cruise. There are exceptions though, and I was one. For some reason I received my Status Match almost four years ago when just showing interest before our first MSC cruise. It took my wife until actually being booked even though she emailed the Voyagers Club twice - and did receive responses from them explaining she needed to be booked on a cruise. Once booked you are retroactively granted Status Match, which means the discount as well.

  23. The Port of Norfolk Cruise Terminal was scheduled to be closed this year for remodeling. Carnival embarks/disembarks five-six cruises each year from there. Luckily work had not started so CCL/RCCL are able to use it as an alternative for Baltimore. The terminal area is one of the worst as it is so crowded that parking is offsite and passengers need to be bussed to the terminal. After Basic in NJ, the USCG sent me to Engineman "A" school in Yorktown, VA for four months. I was lucky as my mother had a childhood girlfriend who had married a career Navy sailor and had retired to Virginia Beach. On my long Liberty weekends I would catch the 'hound and travel down to stay the weekend with them, my 2nd family away from home. Sandi @StLouisCruisers you are right that the Navy has an open house for one ship each weekend. One of the Liberty weekends while visiting I did a "Busman's Holiday" and toured a USN LST! Luckily I had civvies to wear.
  24. Sam in better days when he could still get up on the one couch. I miss our cuddle time.
