  1. What's your camera budget looking like? If you're not cruising for several months yet, be sure to have a look at Black Friday sales. If you don't like getting out into the crowds, stores offer their sales prices online too. We got a GoPro Hero 4 Silver on Black Friday last year from Sam's Club for $200. It included a spare battery, a dual battery charger, and a 16gb micro-SD card. We also bought a couple of 64gb cards that were on sale cheap. Then I bought a floating handle for $15 that also includes a tri-pod mount and a trigger mechanism to be able to hold the handle and trigger the shutter button with one hand. It comes with an attached lanyard. Even though it floats, I'll still keep it on my wrist so it can't float away.

Do you mind sharing a link to the handle thing?

  2. <p>

Did you bother to tell the issuer of the "turned off" card that you were going to be on a cruise and would using the card on the ship and in particular ports of call? If you didn't, then you must accept a great deal of responsibility for the card being frozen.

We don't do credit cards (Dave Ramsey followers) and we always called the bank to tell them when we'd be traveling and our route. Assured we'd be fine. Every single time we did this, they'd shut off our card! One time we were really hard up for cash, young, newly married, trying to go home for Christmas (husband was stationed 1200 miles away from home) and we were even using my husband's card to his parents' account because they gifted our gas and hotel to travel. When we stopped for the night for a hotel we found out their card had been deactivated despite letting that bank also know our plans. Our card had been shut off too. I had just enough money in a seldom used bank to get home on gas fumes. It was a terribly long trip, sleeping in the car, super cold.

Now when I don't tell the banks we're traveling we don't have issues! 3 banks have shut off our card when we've told them about traveling. And they were just minor gas, room, and food bills, nothing crazy.

  3. I believe I read all muster stations on the Breeze are indoors, yay! But do they all have places to sit? We're traveling with my Mother in law who can hardly stand for 5 minutes sometimes so we're considering renting a wheelchair but in case it doesn't work out I'm hoping it's easy to sit. We're also traveling with our autistic son who needs bubble space which would be easier if he is sitting with a bit of standing room to go back and forth between.

  4. Taking pics of your vacation is great, to preserve and share your memories of your trip, but if you get too caught up in taking pics of everything and everywhere, you may find out later that your memories of your trip are of trying to get the perfect photo and not so much of being in the moment.

I have to say this is true for me. I tend to get caught up in lots of things including building up a big fantasy about how my trip should be that I am not present in the moment to enjoy it (not even camera related with this one.)

Family frequently asks that I take lots of pics of my son when we're out doing fun things or he's doing something super cute. Every now and then I will but I usually miss the moment and don't get to enjoy it for myself. I much prefer really living in the moment and soaking it all in. This is of course just my feelings and opinions

  5. I just made a super impulsive purchase. I only started browsing hotels a few moments ago. Research I thought. My family of 3 is traveling with my in laws and usually we like to get 2 bedroom suites with a living room and kitchen in places like Residence Inn ($300 or so in Kansas City.) Since we're only staying briefly I figured we'd look for 2 cheaper rooms. I happened upon Holiday Inns resort with a 2 bedroom villa like we're used to, only 1 left!!! It was $209 before taxes, right on the beach, and looked really nice so I quickly snatched it up. Other single rooms I saw at the 3 places I looked at first were $150, over 200, and sold out--for a single room. Is this a good price for needing 2 rooms--whether connected or not? This is in January

  6. We are cruising with our girls for the first time (ages 10, 6, and 4) in 2 weeks. We've made them think morning and evening camp times are just part of the cruise and not an option. ;) One thing that has seemed to get them really excited is watching you tube videos. My kids need to know what to expect in order to feel comfortable, so watching those videos about Camp Ocean online have eased their fears and have gotten them pumped up!

My autistic son will be 5 the week after the cruise. Your idea is so smart!! What did you search for? I think this will help our son adjust.

I don't plan on forcing him to do something he isn't comfortable with since it's his vacation too but I like the idea of making it sound like that's just how it is. No big deal if it doesn't work out but kind of encourage it along.

  7. I definitely follow the better safe than sorry. We did 4 cruises years ago and I sailed with my BC, DL, and marriage certificate.

Our first cruise was in 2008 and we actually left my husband's BC at home!! We had a friend break into our house and email us a copy which we printed at a kinkos and she mailed it to the hotel so if I had to go back to the hotel after the cruise to retrieve it so my husband could get out of customs I could do that. The guy saw my husband's military ID and talked military with him and never asked for anything more and hardly glanced at my BC or DL. But I definitely wouldn't recommend leaving a BC at home :')

Our next cruise the customs person yelled at us for breaking the rules and that a passport was an absolute requirement. I calmly showed him the printed documents from the government showing we didn't need a passport and he still kept yelling at us. He still never looked at my marriage license and we had to have some other worker set him straight.

The next 2 cruises I think they may have asked for it. But I'm tired of all of the issues so even though I will probably only use the passport the one time I think I'm getting it for our next cruise.

  8. I usually try to travel with my hard side carry on and a big purse or something and I'm plus sized so my clothes take more space. I once went to visit my family for 2 months with temps that were below freezing to mild. So this included things like boots, a hoody, and a heavy coat with a scarf, etc. I was able to do laundry but I brought a ton of stuff and still did carry on only.

For cruises we drive and typically my husband would have a backpack, I had a large purse and we shared a carry on and a 24 inch bag which included snorkeling gear. Our next cruise we'll have our special needs son who is currently still in diapers and requires us bringing a lot of his own food so we might add one extra carry on or another backpack.

  9. You can go to the photo desk and ask for reprints. I've had to do that a few times when my picture(or my mom's) wasn't on the walls. They bring up the file of all the pictures taken at that event on a tablet. The employee will go through the pictures until your picture is found. It is possible that it won't be found if the picture turned out poorly to begin with(blurry, eyes closed, etc).

Shoot, we must have had lazy workers because I asked and they said it wasn't possible

  10. I know I may get crap for saying this but one thing that's bugged me lately on cruises (and beaches in general) is how scant outfits and bathing suits are now. Like I can't go to a pool or enjoy a day on the beach without seeing some thong bathing suits and boobs hanging out of tops (as this is the new 'style'). And in general see through clothes and short shorts that make you wonder if those are even shorts to begin with.

    I guess I'm just a prude.

Btw I'm 23 so it's all people my own age too. I'm just in the minority that doesn't like it. Lol.

I'm 31 but I've always been a prude too. I realized how modest I was when my 17 year old boyfriend's mom was telling me I should show off even a little cleavage. I'm very large chested, I was a DDD+ back in my skinny days and wouldn't show even the very top of my cleavage.

  11. With the prices they charge for photos, I doubt that somebody else would have bought yours, even if for some reason they thought your DH was the captain. I would hypothesize that the person was possibly anti-military and they took your pics and threw them away.

Either way, thank your hubby for his service.

    I will, thank you.

There were a few other photos of ours taken as well, non uniform/military related photos.

In the dining room on elegant night a man gave us a bottle of wine and he sat upstairs basically looking down at us. Anytime our glasses came close to empty he'd run downstairs and yell at the staff for allowing our glasses to get low; we were mortified especially because neither of us cared for the wine and didn't really want more. Every night at dinner anytime we looked his way he was starring at us. Whether it's true or not he'd make spy/CIA references and gave us a weird vibe. We always wondered if he was the one who took them. I hear it's different now but this was when you had to hunt the walls for your pics. We recognized surrounding photos to remember where ours were located. The next night all of ours were from the different walls were gone but the other surrounding ones weren't. We checked ALL of the photos again but all of ours vanished. So bizarre.

  12. The peeing on the deck was still my worst but our first cruise was a belated honeymoon and welcome back from deployment trip. I wore ball gowns and he wore his formal military uniform. We hadn't planned on buying any photos but there were several really good pictures so after checking our finances we went back to buy them. Somebody had already bought all of our pictures!! Not the nice way as in for us but they took our pictures home. These were shots of just the 2 of us and there was no reason for anyone else to take them. We were bummed to lose the photos and totally weirded out on who and why there were taken.
