  1. Hey there @MOSusan - check with your doctor - and depending on whether you're on insulin or just watching what you eat (moderation) / exercise - then this link hopefully will help you.

I'm a Type 1 Diabetic (my next cruise I'm celebrating 56 years of being a PWD) ... so obviously on the juice of life.  I've been cruising now for over 20 years and for myself, food is no issue.  I just try to eat in moderation, test my blood sugars before / after. Personally, I use a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor) called the Libre , it's affordable for myself as a Canadian.

Because I'm active despite my failing knees, so that helps any little splurge that may temporarily raise my blood sugars past my usual 80 - 180 mg/dl that I like to stay in, but again, I'm using insulin.

    Have an awesome cruise!

  2. I am currently waiting along with all the other passengers to board onto the Emerald.  They are being Mum about what happened.  All I know is, I've never seen such a bad check in for a Princess cruise.  So far, we are up to #18 for people to board, but the thing is ... no numbers have been called yet ... and the area for all the passengers to be in, is now packed to capacity. People who are mobile, are sitting on the floor, or standing.  So not sure what is happening with not even the 1st group being called.  Very bizzare. It's currently 16h00 - which is when the ship was supposed to depart.

We had a check in time of 13h30, but for some reason Princess when we arrived, said it made no difference.

They just asked Group #1 to board ... 16h01!!!!

  3. @Jenner9 - Greetings from Canada.  I travel with a carry on for all my cruises (have done ones up to a month long).  Like others, rewear, do spot clean ups if I dribble, do sniff test 😝, etc.  I'm used to living in cramped corners on a 30' sailboat, so limited to storage space, so the cabins on the cruise ships I go onto, is like living in a chateau (and I don't have to make up my bed or scrub the deck down).  One tips, silk or bamboo undies are the way to go.  They are anti-fungal, wash up fast and dry fast. For a month a way, I bring 3 pairs, wearing one. I find the less I bring, the less stress.  I mean, most people will only see you once or twice, and I highly doubt they'll notice if you're rewearing something and if they do ... who cares!

As others have stated here too, how do you dress at home?  I've been wearing the same leggings for the past week, crotch sniff, they're still okay.  That's me though, a semi-minimalist who would rather save her back/arms from lugging heavy luggage.

  4. Depending on how much soda you drink, it may be cheaper to buy as you go, but probably not. I drink Diet Pepsi (I know it's bad for me, but it's my vice, LOL) and I drink way more Diet Pepsi on the ship than I do at home. I figure if you drink 4 a day, you come out ahead. Plus, the fact that you have to take the time each time you order to pay for it. I don't drink any of the other drinks that come with the package, only Diet Pepsi, so it was a pretty good deal before they changed it. Now, it's not as good of a deal, but it is much more convenient.

LOL Jackie ... what's wrong with Diet Pepsi . Anything with chemicals that don't make my blood sugar spike is good in my books (I've been drinking this stuff since the 60's and I have no 3rd eye in my forehead .... yet ;) ).

So, thanks for the advise. Like you, on a cruise I tend to drink more fluids, to flush out all the salt that is put in the foods (yes - I could get salt free food ... but ugh ... it lacks something ... so I put up with swollen feet/ankles in the beginning - but have a water pkg onboard so help reduce that effect of enmass cooking ).

    Cheers!

  5. Curious - as a Type 1 diabetic ... I have to be careful with what I guzzle. So @WrongWayWatson aka Jackie ... are you saying it's better to go with just buying individual soda drinks? I'm on a 15 day cruise in less than a month - so trying to figure out the best deal (I'm being shown $11 Cdn per day for this Soda and More). It's better for me to buy ahead of time due to how much we Canadians get charged in USD on the cruise ship (our dollar sucks against your $ right now :( )

  6. I did one last week - but not via this route - so who knows when mine will get posted.

    Ouch on the toe!!!

We're contemplating trying the smaller ship with the BOGO deal as well - yes - it's a smaller ship - but we've been on it before - less crowded. Keep us posted (and visa versa as I've got your "calling card" you gave me at the M&G - you never know - maybe we'll be on the same cruise together).

Anna and Mike from hot/humid Montreal - summer is here finally

  7. I live in a small house / have a 30' Catalina that I live in most of the summer (when the snow melts up north) - and am fine with pretty well any cabin I have on board. I actually prefer inside - as I find it good for sleeping - and like others have said .... you don't spend much time in them .... unless you're on a romantic honeymoon or "fill in blank here" - and perhaps you want more (or have the monies for it). Main thing - as long as you enjoy whatever stateroom you're in!

  8. Will go and check your Roll Call after this - but hoping even with delay into port (yikes - I can`t imagine those folks with flights to catch home) - you all had a good time.

I`m booked on the May 25th departure. My DH is a boat mechanic - last time a NCL cruise had probs - I had to shut him up when we had engine probs LOL. We had to miss one of the islands on the trip - to slowly make it back to Miami port. Never ran out of food - free wine with meals:) - but on that ship - it got scary with passengers having rallies.

  9. My hubby and I have cruised on many "floating cities" over the years - but since we started sailing our own boat 5 years ago - the big boats just don't quite do it for us anymore. We often are gazing at charter sailboats at ports (even visiting the marinas to talk to fellow sailors) and wishing we were on them. We did try to get a few other sailing mates to charter out of the Grenadines this winter, but no one is able to afford it, and I don't fancy doing it on my own as I do enjoy the aspect of larger cruises, and the many people we met onboard and have made long lasting friendships with over the years we've cruised . So, now I'm looking at Windstar as a possible inbetween sailing option (won't have to cook <lol>). Tho' I doubt we'll have any heeling like we would with a sailboat. Correct me if I'm wrong <lol>.

So, reading this thread has made me feel more comfortable with perhaps going ahead with booking our trip. All depends on how our present search on land here goes for our next sailboat (upgrading, we have '2 footitize') and if we can afford a trip down south (I will find away - had no winter break last year - and felt cheated).

Just curious if there anyone here that also owns a sailboat like ourselves and enjoys the pampering of a larger sailboat with Windstar?
