  1. I like the mid sized ships best, as in Spirit class or the like. I've done Fantasy class alot, and they are ok, but then we did the big O and it was way to much walking. it was also way to much "amusement park" for us. I'm a walker, but everything we wanted to see/do was all the way on the other end of the ship. I think the saturation point of space to passenger has pretty much stayed the same, so yes, you will get crowds on any sized ship at times.

  2. I booked our next cruise for next October. I've never booked that far in advance. My final payment is due next August. I'm thinking of spreading my payments out till then and just make small monthly payments. Does anyone else do that?

I do this every payday. I just pay 25 or 50 or what ever won't hurt my pocketbook, and its done by final payment time. Then I keep doing it, pulling it out in cash and stashing it in my passport, to use ashore and in the casino and tips. Works fine for me. Learned this lesson after charging my first cruise and it took forever to pay it off. lol

  3. With the new changes to the delivery of liquor purchased on board, how does one get bottles purchased on the 1st leg of a B2B?

I've been on a couple B2B's and this was always a great way to save money on the 2nd leg as they were just delivered to the room the last night of the first cruise. But how and when would I get my bottles with the new rules?

this has worked every time I've B2B'd. Just don't spread the word until the last day that you will be staying on. You should be able to pick it up in the morning as usual and take it to your cabin.

  4. They had some kind of fried peas to snack on. Weird.

Those were Frog Balls, and were delicious. I learned how they make them and from what. Very interesting.

BTW we were first on that cruise, they came and took our photo, and gave us a free drink. It never showed up on John's website though. I was disappointed.

  5. In chatting to some fellow guests at the beach in grand turk, one guest was complaining bitterly , I may add, that his whole vacation was ruined.. why you may ask, did he get food poisoning ? did he slip and fall ? did he get given a cabin in the engine room by mistake? no, he said it was ruined because ONE of the elevators was out of order for 2 days??? ONE, on the carnival sunshine, now if you have been on this ship you will know the layout and I was on the deck they were working on said elevator ( deck 6 ) and yes it was out, but there were 8 -9 other working elevators right there.

So im sitting there wondering HOW that is ruining his cruise, then he say NCL never has this problem , their elevators always work?? somehow i doubt any mechanical machine always works. I was with one of the craw at the time so I didn't say anything but really ???

I ask you do you on vacation really let these little things worry you so much it actually ruins a vacation?

    zac

I can only imagine he was stuck in said elevator for two days. That's the only thing that might ruin the whole cruise for me. So sorry you got stuck in there. That must have been traumatic.

  6. Ooooh yes it happened to us, and on our cruise to Alaska to make things worse! The airline (not to mention any names, but one that paints their airplanes "canyon blue" and prides itself for not charging for checked luggage), lost our big suitcase, with most of the family's wardrobe, formal wear, jackets etc.

Once we landed in Seattle, we had 24 hours before the ship sailed. We filed the claim at the baggage office at the airport. The airline told us that they would load the bag on the next nonstop (the next morning) and that we would most likely get the bag before we sailed the next afternoon.

The next morning, we called South... I mean the airline, and they informed us that the bag hadn't been loaded on the morning flight! [emoji16] To make things worse, they had NO clue where it was. My wife and I left the kids at the hotel with the grandparents and literally ran to the downtown Target, a few blocks from the hotel. I grabbed a shopping cart while my wife loaded it with whatever we could find, including a new suitcase. It felt like an episode of the Amazing Race.

We went on the cruise with our new wardrobe, and while we had an absolutely amazing time, the lost bag issue kept popping in our head souring the cruise a bit. I called the airline every time we arrived at a new port of call but each time they had no news.

We returned from our cruise and the bag was still lost. In fact, they lost it PERMANENTLY! It was NEVER found! We came home and filed an insurance claim both with the airline and with our insurance. Once we received a confirmation letter that the bag had officially been lost, we were fully reimbursed for all the contents in the bag, everything that we purchased in Seattle, and we received an additional $800 for our troubles. Morale of the story: GET TRAVEL INSURANCE! Had we traveled without it, we would've received a fraction of what we received!

Best piece of advice that I can give you is that you don't pack all of your clothes in the same bag. Put a bit in yours and a bit in someone else's suitcase, and do the same for other family members. That way, if one bag gets lost, everybody still has some clothes. We had packed a smaller bag with 2 days worth of clothes for all family members which was very helpful while we figured out what the do.

Finally, make sure that your suitcase has your contact information, not only on a bag tag, but also inside the bag. That way if the tags are completely ripped, they'll know that the bag belongs to you once they open it.

I do it one better, I put a strip of duct tape on the side, write in permanant marker the ship, cabin number and our name and contact info, then cover that with clear packing tape.. No chance of losing that. Of course, it won't help with losing the whole bag, but still...

Easy to peel off, and replace to come home, or on the next trip.

  7. I've been in Porthole forward cabins, and interior aft ones also. I love the little view you get with the PH's and wouldn't switch. I didn't fine the noise annoying and slept very well, remember the motion will be stronger in the forward cabin.

I would stay where I was, but that's me.

If you sleep late, take the aft cabin. The anchor and thrusters are noisy and you will feel there vibes while docking. Alot.

Good luck and have fun! p.s. the port hole is a perfect place for a kid to sit! I even sat in there. It's like a little tunnel.

    Bon Voyage!

  8. Nachi Cocom is adults only. Mr Shancho's is kid friendly.

I love Nachi, it is a perfect relaxing day. Lots of food, drink, swimming. don't bother taking snorkeling gear, not much to see, and you can't go far out, but it is lovely. Shady, Pool, nice restrooms. Highly recommended.

  9. My BFF and I did this cruise last September 11th, and it was glorious. Absolutely wonderful weather, and no issues. Loved every minute. The funny thing was, we took another cruise to the Bahama's in January, and froze every day. lol You never know about the weather.

  10. Take it from somebody who knows, your health comes FIRST. I agree with your physician, having health problems you DON'T want to be out of the country neverless away from your physicians at this time. I am glad to hear there is treatment and your only focus on that is to remain strong mentally and as best as you can physically. Remember, mind over matter and focus on being positive will help you through the process.

Yes, your very disappointed but imagine if you didn't know and being on the ship you ran into health problems that would be bad so it was a blessing in disguise for you to find out now before your cruise. You WILL take that cruise, but priorities first. Wishing you strength and positive thinking and on the road soon to getting better. ;)

Thank you all for your prayers and kind words. You are absolutely correct in saying my health comes first. Funny thing, if I hadn't gone on Fantasy last month for 10 days, and had a few drinks every evening in the casino, I never would have had a stomach bleed, and they may not have found it until it was to late. I got sick two days after the cruise. I never drink at home, and I'm sure thats what caused it, so Carnival Fantasy was a blessing!

I'm heading for a complete recovery in about 5 months. LOL Thanks, and I will be back, when I have another cruise (hopefully Aruba) booked.

  11. :( I've been diagnosed with Stomach cancer, as of yesterday, and will be in treatment for awhile. My Dr advised me against leaving the country until its over. Canceling was the most painful moment of my life.

but, Aruba will wait, and when I've recovered I will get there. I was only 38 days out. How sad.

I was thrilled to score a balcony on this 8 day trip for 220. for each of us, that kind of deal probably won't come my way again.

    So disappointed.

  12. Our flight comes into Chatleston at 11am and we would like to head straight to the ship. I was wondering if we can get on the ship, put our stuff away and then get back off the ship for a couple hours to check out the town before it sails?

Has anyone tried this? And was it a huge hassle?

    Thanks!

Uh, I really don't think there will be enough time for this to happen. I've been on Fantasy about 8 times, and am usually one of the first to get aboard. Once dropping off my carry on in the cabin, and grabbing a quick lunch, its time to watch the last few people come aboard.

I think Risa was my least favorite CD, Paul is wonderful and fun. I too, am hoping they move Fantasy anywhere and bring in a different ship.

  13. I had to read that twice because I thought you were referring to the First Lady of the United States.

I fairly consistantly sport a muffin top. Not because my jeans are too small. I wear a belt and if I go up in size they fall off--as it is, I'm constantly pulling them up. I have a thick middle and most pants are low to mid rise. I haven't found any (reasonably priced) that rise to my waist. Jeans just aren't designed for my body shape. In dresses, I just look fat, no muffin top.

OMG I am exactly the same.. I wear a size 12 jean (tall) and a 1 or even 2 X top. Any bigger bottoms, just hang off my butt, and I can pull them straight down without unzipping them. I really have a no butt problem. lol I will always have a muffin top. Pretty good sized muffins on top of muffin top also. Wish there was something I could do, but I just have to live with it. You are not alone.
