  1. We don't always get glorious sunshine on our travels. I've just release a new tutorial about photography in the rain - how to protect your camera and what to photograph, you can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uICeHurjYaU I hope people find it helpful.
  2. I hope it is ok to share this travelogue here - I visited John's on a very wet day in 2015, I've just re-edited the video I created at the time and uploaded it to YouTube. The video shows the painted buildings in the heavy rain, after this I went up signal hill to see Cabot Tower and Queen's Battery. Although the weather was bad it actually made for some interesting images of a wonderful place. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqDp5OxyFUE Admins, you aren't happy with me sharing this here please delete it - my aim in creating the video is just to give a flavour of the town to anyone planning to visit it.
  3. A few days ago I posted a travelouge of a visit to Amsterdam (on MV Marco Polo) to my Travel Photography Channel on YouTube - if you are planing to visit it there it might give you some ideas of things to see, do and photograph in the city. You can find the travelogue here: I've also posted a short photography technique video that I shot while I was visiting the city. It's all about how we can improve our travel photos by using repetition in the images. It's only 3min 48s long and the techniques are applicable for any camera whether is a DSLR, a "point-and-shoot" or even a phone. If you are going to the city it might give some ideas on how to get some interesting images of your visit. Admins - if there is any problems with me sharing these video here, please delete the post. Thanks Ian.
  4. Here's my favourite sunset - largely because noone believes me where it was taken - it is the Bay of Biscay and it is CALM!!
  5. Hi folks, I've recently posted a short photography technique video to my YouTube travel photography channel. It's all about how we can improve our travel photos by using repetition in the images. The video was shot on location in Amsterdam. It's only 3min 48s long and the techniques are applicable for any camera whether is a DSLR, a "point-and-shoot" or even a phone. I hope you find it helpful. Ian.
  6. Whatever you go for make sure you get something with a viewfinder! If you are used to useing a 'normal' camera you are likely to get frustraited if you can't compose your images because you can't see the screen on the back of the camera. I am a guest lecturer on Photography on cruise ships and this is the comment I hear from people more than anything they wish they had a viewfinder! Particularly in bright locations such as the Caribbean. My recommendation is to look at the Panasonic Lumix rage - I can't give you a specific model number because they change a little to frequently for me to keep track. My main camera is 5DMk3 but I do have a Panasoinc Lumix point and shoot for times I need to travel light and I have been very pleased with it. All the best Ian.
  7. I've recently posted a travelouge of a visit to Cherbourg (on MV Marco Polo) to my Travel Photography Channel on YouTube - if you are planing to visit it there it might give you some ideas of things to see, do and photograph in the town. You can find the travelogue here: Admins - if there is any problem sharing this on here, please remove. Thanks, Ian.
  8. Thank you for your kind words about the video. It's good to hear that the infrastructure has been rebuilt - I'm sure one day I will be able to return once cruise ships are opperating again.
  9. I hope it is ok to post this here. Back in March 2016 I was travelling around the Caribbean on MV Marco Polo and I had the pleasure of visiting Tortola, Road Town & Nanny Cay for the day. (This is before the hurricane devastated the island). I've only just finished editing my travelogue of the visit, I hope it gives people thinking of visiting Tortola, Road Town and Nanny Cay an idea of what this wonderful part of the world is like. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqWHb06Q3js
  10. I hope it is ok to share this here - I've just published a travelogue of a trip I did on the catamaran Excellence from St John's (It was in 2016 but I've only just finished the editing) - it was a great trip. I hope that the video helps anyone who is planning to visit Antigua once we are able to go cruiseing again. https://youtu.be/vpBxrO12zug
  11. hope this is ok to post here (Admins - if this is not ok please delete) I recently went through the Panama Canal (Pacific to Atlantic) and produced a travelogue video of the transit. If anyone wants to see what it is like going through the canal you can find the video here: https://youtu.be/PO6o7DHwWHk Ian.
