  1. I sailed the N. Statendam deck 8 aft. Early in the morning I would hear the moving of deck chairs as the crew put them in place. It was brief and it was not loud. It did not bother me. That was the only noise I encountered. The convenience was nice.
  2. I don’t know. I guess we could read the casino provider’s annual reports, if they are public companies. I assume they profit a lot. I have met people who spend thousands of dollars a night on the ship. Many luxury lines do not have casinos and so there are many very wealthy, gambling clients on HAL and other mass market ships. I think some of this inventory is given to past cruisers for a variety of reasons outside of gambling. I am a very limited gambler, on my last 35 day cruise my entire gambling charges were less than $250. I think my complimentary “casino” rate is for a problem I encountered. DH, on the other hand, thoroughly enjoys the casino and gets frequent discounts, not so many freebies tho.
  3. Always try. We get tiny discounts on some cruise (5-20%) and they do give us the CCL OBC. For the $99 variety casino cruise they do not. It doesn’t stop me from asking. The AARP OBC offer specifically says no casino, again, I try anyway. It is just a “no”, no harm in that
  4. Depending on how large the discount yes it is excluded. If it is a small discount you usually will still get the OBC
  5. Yes they do allow stacking. I have CCL, sis has first responder. I think first responder is only good once a year, CCL for every qualifying cruise
  6. Yes, that is what they all say but I have yet read a comment where someone actually failed because of this option. By email I have a travel insurance agency saying that you do not have to pay for the entirety of the trip. anyway I have a few trips that exceed the insurance benefits by a few thousand dollars and I see no reason I need to pay the overage on that card. As such I will use it as a test case and first hope I never need to use the insurance and if I did will report back.
  7. My understanding it is a tax benefit to both the crew and the company to do it this way. The tax laws governing maritime personnel are different than those onshore. There are a few good articles on the web explaining the system.
  8. They can. When I first started my salt free diet was a night when the salt content was beyond what I could tolerate. They immediately took my plate away and brought out the same meal without salt. Salt free is easier to accommodate but they could bring something. I never had a salmon with breading and I eat quite a bit salmon onboard. Was it any good?
  9. I have stopped by at lunch or breakfast when I missed the night before.
  10. @Ken the cruiser I figured out a lot on my own but my real break throughs came when I started visiting cruise critic. It was not so much a single piece of advice but a way of thinking
  11. You are correct, of course. Reviewing the invoice from top to bottom contains almost all information you will need to sail. It is obvious to me that people do not review that document as I can’t tell you how many times people are confused as to their HIA perks and it is all right there. I do understand the OP’s complaint and I think the OP should act fast and have the TA rebook it with the same suite. We all know HAL is very generous in allowing us to re-fare. They can likely receive adequate compensation by doing so. I just re-fared the other day and was pleasantly surprised by additional perks.
  12. Check your profile and make sure you are signed up to receive all emails. I had done a grand voyage last year and those were excluded and that may be the reason for the email.
  13. I have sailed luxury lines and they are quite capable of making mistakes and offending passengers.
  14. Ah, come on. Give me credit. I said ignore and relax somewhere else. I see no point in rushing onto a cruise ship. Long ago HAL used to have lovely refreshments and the precruise wait was a social. Now the millennials have taken over with their bureaucratic efficiencies removing any ambience whatsoever
  15. Thanks. That helps me make a decision. When a person is 90 everything is a pre-existing condition.
  16. I used to camp under a piece of plastic because the DH said tents were too expensive - that's not happening again either (LOL). The plus was when you ordered room service they could simply reach in and put the tray on your bed which served as dining, sleeping, seating and desk. For my preferred long voyages the differential between inside and OV on the Pinnacle is very small anyway
  17. I haven't looked but I would not show up that early unless you want to hurry up and wait!
  18. Gus sent an email last week saying HIA was now available on all cruises. It may take a few more days to show up. I wish I had saved the email
  19. If the cruise deposit was paid 12 months ago and the final payment date is 90 days prior to sailing, you are saying it is not covered? If so I don't need travel insurance. This is really my own reason for having travel insurance, otherwise I am willing to take my own losses caused by my own hand
  20. Yes currently I am fully covered with Chase as the deposits are purchased with said card. I will have to review Nationwide. BTW, the parent is very aged so has all of that. Thank you very much
  21. This helps quite a bit. So perhaps more background will help with a finer detail. I do buy annual geoblue and have no preexisting. As to the travel policy I only buy in case of a parent’s death and would need to cancel or return home in that event. For this do I need to buy at refundable deposit, during the look back period or ? What would be the latest possible date to buy? Thank you
  22. I am sure this has been covered but searching did not find this answer readily. If I am satisfied with the limits of my Chase insurance coupled with an annual medical, how much of my trip has to be on the Chase card to activate coverage. My deposits are always secured with the card. 20%, 50%, 75% or 100%? Hopefully someone has had actual experience. Thank you.
