  1. We are booked on the Island Princess departing out of Rome Oct 31, 2021 to Greece and Israel. We are also booked on the Island Princess Summer 2022 to the Baltic. Both are about two weeks long. We are wondering if we could have feedback from those who don’t like Island Princess and those who do regarding your likes and dislikes. We have been on Coral Princess and loved that ship. Thank you in advance!

  2. Hello All,

Can anyone who has been on a cruise to Antarctica comment on the photo package and number of photos taken on deck?

I am asking here as the Antarctica board doesn’t get many replies and most of them are from people who take the cruises to Antarctica with landings. We will be on the Coral Princess in January and are trying to figure out if the photo package is worthwhile.
    Many thanks!

  3. I am wondering if anyone who has cruised to Antarctica on Princess knows which days the Laundry Rooms are open for use. I wasn’t sure if they would be closed for some of the days due to cruising in Antarctica.

I have posted this on the Antarctica board and am still waiting for a reply so I thought I try here.

Thank you to all who can offer insight as I plan ahead for packing.

There are plenty of cameo shops in Naples and Sorrento but you need to be careful that you're not buying something imported from China.

The biggest one I know of is Donadio in Portici, where all the tour buses used to stop.   I don't know if they still have a retail operation but you can check:  http://www.donadio.it/donadio-world.html?___store=en

Thank you very much for your help. 😊

  5. Hello All,

We are will be here on a cruise in Late July (I know it will be so hot and crowded but that is when our scheduled allowed a trip this year so we are justing going to enjoy it!) and I am looking for suggestions on where to buy pearls. I have cruised here before but not paid enough attention, but this time would like to buy some. I am interested in necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. I also love cameos. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all!

This is right in town, although not as nice as the ones you can take the bus to.

Thank you so very much.  This will be great! Is it easy to take the bus?  What would you recommend? Thank you again for your help. 🙂

  7. We will be in Mykonos in July. I know it will be so crowded but that's when I worked for us to go this year.  Is there a beach easy to access right there in the main town?  We are going to Delos and when we return we hoped to have the chance to just walk along a beach.  Thank you in advance for any suggestions anyone has regarding the beach or anything else in the main town.

  8. Hello All,

We are trying to decide which side of the ship to reserve a state room on for a cruise to Antarctica (Buenos Aires to Santiago.) If anyone has any suggestions on which side of the ship and which deck is best on this particular cruise, I would greatly appreciate it. I am asking because this summer we did the Land of the Midnight Sun cruise in Norway and I wish we had reserved our balcony on the starboard rather than port side. Now we will know for next time. clear.png?emoji-smile-1742 Any other suggestions for this trip would also be very welcome.

    Thank you!

  9. Starboard side, for Glacier Alley. Although the captain will probably rotate the ship for all to have a view.

This would be true on any line, so asking on Princess board is not required!

We went to the Estancia at Buenos Aires, and a combo Penguin-Sheep ranch excursion at Puntarenas Chile. We did those with the ship's ShoreX because they were such long days! That worked out well as a storm came up at Puntarenas and we were late crossing the ferry, and the last tender was waiting for us! We did ship's excursions a couple other places just to get away from the ports to see the scenery, and we did a private tour run by a US expat in Puerto Chacabuco (En Patagonia Tours) that also included a lamb lunch (you may see a pattern in my choices!).

Thank you crystalspin for your help. We will look at those excursions.

  11. Thank you all for your help and thoughtful replies. We will keep our cruise as is currently scheduled in May. I love September in the Med but my husband works at a university and simply can't be on vacation in September!

For those of you thinking of cruising the Med in the Fall, I think it is a great idea. In 2016, I went with my daughter from Rome to Athens from September 10 to 17. The crowds in Rome were smaller than when we had been there during the summer and the weather was glorious every single day. Last year we went on a 10 day cruise from Rome to Barcelona departing October 7 and had beautiful, warm weather and non-crowded ports. The only drawback then is that it is later in the year and so there is less daylight. The only time I wore a jacket on both of those trips was on the plane on the way there and back.

If anyone has any questions I can answer, I am happy to return the favor.

    Thank you all again.:)

  12. Hello All,

We have a 2 week Mediterannean (Adriatic and Aegean medley - departing Rome and ending Barcelona) cruise booked on Princess that leaves May 25, 2019. I have done similar cruises in September and early October and both times the weather was beautiful and the crowds very manageable - even more so in early October compared to mid-September. Next year we cannot go in the Fall.

Can anyone comment who has traveled in late May in this region? I am wondering if this is a wonderful time to go or if we should consider changing to the same cruise in July for better weather.

Many thanks to anyone who can offer any insight. I much appreciate it!:):)

  13. Random thoughts.....

Our trip began with a one-week road trip in England, something we always do before any cruise leaving S'hamton or Dover.

Private tours were few and far between in Norway, so we used our OBC's [thankfully had about $1200 to mitigate the cost], and did a few ports on our own. Norway is very expensive - and I thought Zurich and Toyko were costly. On CC I found a small group doing the Lofoten Islands, but had to admit, it was nothing more than a taxi ride; IMO, the tour leader should have done some research to direct the cab driver. The Flam rail was spectacular, and would do it again. I later found out that we could have taken a city bus [long drive] to North cape to spend more time there.

As mentioned, the HoHO in Bergen is a great intro to the city, Princess docks at an industrial area unlike Cunard that ties up in the city. . Our time was cut short due to the ship needing to be back to Southampton much earlier. We would have loved to enjoy a lunch at the amazing Fish Market.

We visited more waterfalls and mountain passes than I can remember, sampled lots of local foods [seafood] and saw some ugly trolls. Aquarium, polar museums, old churches, hillsides covered with lupine, hiked a few snow-covered trails, saw reindeer/caribou crossing roads. We experienced a few sudden weather events while high in the mountains above the Troll Road; sun, rain, fog and sleet within minutes of each other.

I do have about 6 pages of detailed notes. Do you have an alternate email address so I could send it to you?

    Darcy

    Hi Darcy,

I would greatly appreciate your notes.

  14. We are stopping for a day in Naples on a cruise in October. We have previously visited Pompeii, Sorrento, and Capri so this time we are going to see the National Archaeological Museum, the Capodimonte Museum, and then walk back to the port following the Rick Steves walking tour to see churches and shop and get gelato and pizza. We are taking a taxi from the port to the Capodimonte Museum since it opens first. I do know to watch for pickpockets, etc. My daughter and I are both using small cross body bags and putting our shirt or coat over them and holding on to keep them safe. I am not bringing my nice camera with me that day.

Does anyone know of a reputable cameo shop or have any input? I have also seen beautiful pearl necklaces that women wear there with the pearls shaped a little differently than the regular round pearls we usually see.

If anyone has any guidance or input with any of our plans I would deeply appreicate help.

    Thank you in advance.
