Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Chops on boarding day is consistent; don’t make a reservation and expect a refund
  2. Paprika is pretty good and close to Carnival and RCL piers
  3. Good shape when she was in Galveston; pickleball was wind at times but enjoyable
  4. Uber doesn’t have a contract with the port but Lyft does. Also there will be taxis if you are among first to disembark. To do so you have to carry off your luggage. We always leave our room to walk off at around 6:30 and get in line. We have always been off by 8:00 sometimes by 7:20. Hope this helps.
  5. Last 2 sailings with UDP had 4 pieces; we used to order 1/1/1 instead of 1/2/1 but now simply get two rolls; I will say the original rolls were too big and too much food.
  6. Sailed her in December with reservations allowed pre boarding and with UDP. Went to 150 as soon as we boarded and made all lunch and dinner reservations. No problem.Had made reservations for the Aqua show and Mama Mia on Cruise Planner. Shows in the showroom were never full and after seeing the comedians first night we tried to reserve the comedy show on nights 5 but it was full so night 6 walked down fifteen or twenty minutes before showtime, stood in line for about 10 minutes and were seated. Also for our cruise the comedy acts shown in the lounge were repeated day 7 in the showroom so everyone who wanted to could see the adult shows. We loved 150 on night 1 but went back later in the week and it was good but not as good later in the cruise. Went to Samba once but didn’t plan well and was not as hungry as we would have liked so didn’t taste everything offered but the filet, lamb chops and specialty cut of bottom sirloin was very good. Chops, Izumi bad Giovannis were all good with Chops having the bigger crowd both nights we were there. All in all great cruise and we didn’t feel we missed out on anything we wanted to do. Can’t wait to sail her again.
  7. Just returned from Allure and wanted to review the thermal suite. I purchased the package a couple of months before sailing for a little over a hundred bucks. I had read some not so glowing reviews but enjoy a sauna/steam prior to beginning evening activities so I went ahead and purchased the week package. Even though I had read some reviews and knew that it was windowless I was shocked at how small it was and the dearth of amenities. I thought there had to be some hot/cold plunge pools or other standard spa amenities but there were four chairs (heated) two wet steam rooms, one sauna and two showers. Everything worked properly throughout the week and the units were always hot when I went in. I never really used the heated chairs as they were at an uncomfortable alignment for me but that is just my preference. I did use it 6 out of the 7 days and most of the time I was either by myself or there was another person there. Only once was it crowded and that was a family and they left soon after I arrived. It was nice to sauna and then leisurely change in the men's changing area. They had a hair dryer in the changing area which the older ships do not have in their changing areas. The best thing about the thermal suite was that it allowed my wife the entire cabin to dress for the evening. Is it worth it? Probably not but I will get the package again if the price is decent just to have the option available to me.
  8. Update: We were interested in watching LSU/Ark. last Saturday which had an 11:00 CST kickoff (12:00 local Cozumel time). Red Zone was supposed to open at 11:00 but wasn't open when we arrived. Walked around and found Dick's Dive Bar off the square which had multiple tvs. Watched the first half there and had cold beer and great nachos. Would definitely recommend. Went back to Red Zone which was now open and watched the rest of the game there. Both are good dive bars and we had a good time and would recommend both places. The Pub Hideaway was just down the street from Red Zone and looked good but we did not go in.
  9. Will be in Coz Saturday and would love to find a good sports bar with multiple NCAA games. In port till 5:00 so would love to hear your suggestions.
  10. This is interesting; we were on Grandeur in September and Kummelweck was never available; every time I went by there they were only serving Pork tenderloin sandwiches. I don't believe i went by on Embarkation day so maybe that is the only time it is served. I do like the sandwich!
  11. Boarding Allure in December which will be first time on Oasis class. I have always frequented the complimentary steam/sauna areas and usually use the facilities around 5 times on a 7 night cruise. I have read less than sterling reviews about the coed thermal suites and am really torn about paying the up charge. My wife will not go near a sauna or steam so it would just be me getting the pass. It was a bit over a hundred bucks last time I checked. Welcome any thoughts and opinions.
  12. Just returned; there were 14 of us the entire day; 10, including DW and me, from Grandeur and 2 from Breeze and 2 from Mardi Gras. When we arrived they told us wi-fi not working so a bit of a downer. Since there were only 14 we all talked and I believe everyone had a good time. For us DW said pina coladas were excellent and for me beer was cold./ I did have a “skinny” mojito and it was awful. For food guacamole, nachos and coconut shrimp were good and chicken tacos not so good. They have removed the club sandwich from the menu. Still hard to beat the proximity to port, price and inclusions. Hope they can survive on the crowds they are getting!
  13. We will be there Monday July 25th; it will be our 3rd or 4th time; so far our correspondence indicates the menu we are used to and wine and plenty of brands of booze. It is a pretty chill atmosphere and no real beach but we have always had an enjoyable time there. Well worth the $29 pp special. Will report back after we return.
  14. easy walk to Atlantis and agree with other posters about Del Mar; usually there are no more than 10-20 people when we have been there but reports indicate it can become more crowded. We get a lounger, read and use the pool when we are there. Drinks are pretty good and most of the food is very good IMO. Coconut shrimp, shrimp cocktail, ceviche, guac and club sandwiches are some of the things we have had that we thought were good. We usually spend about 3-4 hours there and leisurely walk back to the ship. Not for everyone but we like it and like the price
