  1. If you are Diamond and on a World cruise you may still be delayed at check in due to the numbers of this level who take the longer voyages. We allow extra time for traffic problems and if we arrive a little earlier so be it. Once onboard we go to our cabin and drop off the carry on luggage, then go to lunch. Please remember on a longer voyage therre is more luggage and it may take a little longer to arrive. Relax and go the see the Regimental Band then unpack before the drill and firework display.
  2. We recently disembarked in Melbourne. Cunard insisted we leave the ship at 8am (they said it was required by Customs) we embarked the coach to the airport at 8.15am and left the port at 8.30pm. By 9.15am we were at Melbourne airport for a 5.15pm flight. Yet in Hong Kong earlier this year we did not leave the ship until 2.30pm for an evening flight which was fine. No tours were offered by Cunard - years ago they did a city tour on the way to the airport which was free. In view of this we either book a hotel day room for a late evening flight or as we have chosen to do later this year extend our stay and book a taxi to the airport from the hotel at a time of our choosing.
  3. A friend on QM2 prior to Christmas had heard possibility of Alexandra or Adelaide for the name of the new ship.
  4. No Cunarder and no Christmas card.
  5. We have World Cruises booked for 2021 as we will be travelling with friends and booked 2022 this week as we required a cabin for 3 and there were few in the grade we wanted. We have also booked another voyage in 2021 and this was booked 2 years in advance again. We have good annual travel insurance so if we had to cancel should be well covered. In the past we never booked so far in advance but then the cruise lines only brought the brochures ot 12 months in advance. Certainly the Early Booking benefits are a great incentive.
  6. Our travel agent booked the cabin we required at 8am GMT today - Queen Victoria full world and rang me before 8.05am to confirm. We had discussed our requirements yesterday and also had a Plan B cabin in mind - just in case, so he was ready with all the information.
  7. Since Melbourne the MDR is busier than from Cape Town. Some passengers only on from Perth to Adelaide or Melbourne. Saw one guy last night waiting in line for the Welcome Aboard party without a jacket and he was seen soon after not at the party so the revised code is being enforced.
  8. We are on QE Cape Town to Melbourne late sitting the MDR has been very quiet lots of empty tables. The Golden Lion has been busy with evening meals. Only 500 of us in transit from Fremantle it will be interesting to see if it changes with the new passengers and the amended dress code.
  9. Cape Town Safari and Winelands Pre Cruise We arrived on Sunday direct flight from Heathrow with BA. Met with a private transfer to the Commodore Hotel. There will be 11 in our group but some are yet to arrive. After check in we went to our rooms and shortly after were given our itinerary for the tour. With just 30 minutes before the lunch we got showered and changed. The first stop was at Bobo's for a delicious lunch then onto a drive to the Company Gardens, House of Parliament and then a drive to Bo-Kaap. Back to the hotel by 5pm and time to get ready. At 7pm a larger group. 9 now went to Gold and African restaurant for a 16 course meal, taster menu and entertainment. Back by 9.30pm. Our guide Ebrahim is very knowledgeable on the history of South Africa. It was. 7am start for Aquila Game Reserve but the opportunity before the drive began to have breakfast or coffee. The safari was good we saw zebras, rhino, elephants, Buffaloes. Even a shy lion sunning himself on a rock. Back to the lodge for a late lunch then a 2 hour drive back. On our return we went to the V and A to browse the stores. We also had dinner at the Waterfront. So far we have thoroughly enjoyed this package provided by Akorn Abercrombie and Kent in South Africa. In 2002 we toured the Garden Route pre cruise and as then it is a slick operation. Value for money too. We paid £600 each, our son paid £900 for single occupancy, but with 3 breakfasts 3 lunches and 1 dinner and all transfers and tours it would not be much cheaper to DIY it. Today off to Stellenbosch and 2 wineries and a picnic lunch. We leave to go to the ship tomorrow at 10am. When the post cruise party will be coming in.
  10. Enjoyong your blog very much. Please could you tel me which staff are on the Entertainment Team and who is the Maitre d' in the Britannia Restaurant. Thank you.
  11. We are joining QE next week. My husband is taking an evening suit, suit, jacket and blazer our son (28) is taking an evening suit, blazer and 2 suits. I do not think tails are required and have rarely seen them onboard as onboard is only black tie event.
  12. My husband says as they walk by 'Snails taking their homes for a walk'.
  13. Thank you for your blog. We are boardng in Cape Town and it is nice to be up to date before embarkation. I do hope the weather improves, it brings back memories of the QV crossing in January 2018 when Bermuda was missed on the way to Florida when we went into Praia de Vittoria for respite from the rough sea.
  14. In 2018 we were sailing alongside QE through the Bay of Biscay on QV bound for South America and we could gauge the winds by her pitch and roll. We docked in Praia de Vittoria overnight but could not get out of the port until 1pm the next day due to the winds, we missed Bermuda and next saw land 10 days after Southampton in Port Canaveral. It was nice to see land and walk around as we had not been allowed out on the decks for several days. We were fortunate and by shaving half a day off Charleston on the return went to Bermuda and also called in P de V. On QE Christmas cruise earlier we had waves way up the Britannia Restaurant stern window at lunch. Hope the January crossing is a little better.
