  1. The other wall of B429 on the

    Royal.

Thank you for the pics. I'm sure they will be helpful to those who are getting a balcony cabin.

However, on this thread I'm collecting info on obstructed cabins or Ocean view cabins and how the beds in the cabins are configured, whether under the window or against the wall.:)

  2. Would you mind taking a picture of the closet please. I've never had a small closet on a cruise, but I understand the Grand's closets are different.

Also, I was watching a video tour a passenger took on the Grand and there is an area with couches and tables outdoors in the shade, but I can't figure out where that would be? It doesn't look like the sanctuary. If you come across it, please let us know.

    Thanks.

  3. Loving your review. Where did they do the sing along? That sounds like so much fun. We will be on the Grand in a few months and I'm also wondering about the crab shack. I'd like to try it, but will have to convince my DH who hates to have to work at eating his food. Some reports say the crab is split when they serve it, others say they have to work hard at getting to it. Would you ask your DH if it was split? I guess every ship does it differently.

    Thanks.

  4. Just bring it back on your next cruise & they'll exchange it- no questions asked. We do it with any of their clothing or watches if something goes wrong with it.

I would suggest this too. I bought a bracelet for my daughter on a cruise, the one by the inch, and it was too small. She has very tiny wrists, but I didn't get the right size. I brought it on the next cruise and they replaced it without any hesitation.

  5. The Sheraton is located on the north end of West Maui's Ka'anapali Beach. There is a good snorkeling spot at the lava point called Black Rock which I've scuba dived at night. The Whaler's Village shopping center is in the middle of Ka'anapali Beach with many shops & restaurants plus a free whaling museum.

    Hi Frank,

Just found some very useful info from you, thanks. This will be our 4th time to Hawaii and this time we thought we'd just browse around Lahaina instead of renting a car. Is there a way to get to a daytime Luau that you recommend without renting a car? Would there be A shuttle? A cab? Would I need to make reservations ahead of time?

    Warm regards,

    Eileen

  6. If I hadn't sailed on the Royal myself, and experienced this wonderful ship, I'm not sure what I would be thinking about a Princess cruise or the Royal. However, I can tell you from personal experience the ship is beautiful, Princess cruises are always enjoyable and the people we've met have been wonderful.

I remember all the negative remarks about the Royal before anyone even set foot on her, and I'm so glad that didn't cause us to cancel our cruise.

This show is not a real representation of the cruise we were on, except for a few things, and I can't image someone deciding not to do a Princess cruise based on this show. If you have your doubts, there is so much information you can glean from happy Princess cruisers on these boards. Ask away, that's what we are all here for.

  7. This is a "reality" show. Not a promo for cruising with Princess, or the wonders of cruising (which I do love, by the way). Princess did not make this, had probably had very little control over what they chose to show. The crew was on the ship for the TA as well as the Caribbean. They never mention the scenes are taken from two voyages, because they took what they liked from each voyage. If Princess had control would they let that women be such a jerk? Would they let it be known about all the problems they had with the laundry because of so many Elites? No, they would have chosen all the positive scenes, of which I am sure there were many, and concentrated on the wonderful time had by all.

TV shows don't work that way in reality TV. The people who sign up to do it sign contracts saying anything can be shown, good or bad, and they have no say in what is chosen. The TV producers want controversy because it makes for "good TV". This show is not design to promote cruising as a way of traveling (our favorite way, might I add), I suspect Princess was approached about doing this, and jumped on the opportunity to show off their beautiful new ship. There is Nothing I saw that would make me not want to cruise, or not want to cruise on a Princess ship. Do I enjoy the commercials that show the wonders of cruising, yes! But, that's not what this is about. I'm anxious to see if all the interviews I know were done, that were so positive, because I was there, made it to the final cut, or are on the cutting room floor. Guess we'll have to tune in next week to find out.:)

  8. Aside from the ridiculous woman being discussed here, I didn't think it was as bad as everyone is making it out to be. It's a documentary, not a travel video. It isn't to promote Princess or cruising, it's a behind the scenes look, and I enjoyed that. I saw so many familiar faces, passengers and crew. It is interesting to realize the scenes are part Caribbean and part TA, but that is not unusual when they film something like this. I remember going to a taping of a TV show years ago, and when we watched it on TV we realized part of it was the dress rehearsal and part was what we saw filmed. That's show biz.

I do wish they didn't rush through everything, but that's because I'm wanting to relive the experience.

I wonder if that woman will be embarrassed by her comments after seeing herself...I would hope so, but isn't that what they always say about reality TV....the more obnoxious, or outrageous it is, the better it is for the show? I mean, here we are all talking about it, and that's exactly what they want.

  9. Still trying to stay positive about our first Princess cruise on Regal next month. Very disappointed with the programme. However, we have deducted the following from the rather annoying British women .. Do we need to bring our own mushrooms , as it appears that Princess does not serve them and I shouldn't rely on the laundry service.

I wished they had focused on more positive passengers, surely there are enough buffet items not to worry about missing mushrooms and I usually take enough clothes not to result in washing them and hanging them in a bathroom. As for positioning yourself where the free drinks are served on formal night. From past cruise experiences said "champagne" usually tastes like paint stripper.

I haven't seen the program yet, and I'm so sorry to read all the negative reviews. We were on the ship when they were filming. Loved the ship, loved the cruise and we are booked on the Regal next year. The laundry service was a problem because there were so many elites onboard and some unscrupulous people were taking advantage of the free laundry service. I haven't read any complaints about the laundry service since that sailing. I'm sure you will have a wonderful cruise.

  10. I do think, for some reason, the Coral has had the worst musical entertainment. On a cruise we did on her, there was a band in the Wheelhouse bar that looked like they were ready to keel over any moment. Couldn't dance to anything. My kids did a cruise on her a couple of years ago and had the same experience. However, we've enjoyed groups on the other ships. Too much of a coincidence, I think.

  11. Prego! :). We have another 27 days (2 cruises) booked on the Royal & Regal although the TA's ports were better.

I'm so jealous. We booked the regal next year to the Caribbean. I have no desire to do the Caribbean, but I really want to be on one of those ships again. It really spoiled me. The Royal is not available for anything we can do right now, so I chose the regal. I'm looking forward to it. To me the ship is the destination in this case.

  12. Can't it also be traded for water and/or soda? We are doing a 14 day cruise in the Caribbean which I've now read is considered a b2b, which means two Elite set ups? We don't drink alcohol, and I certainly won't need more coffee cards, can't I exchange for something else?

  13. So does that mean when I click in to the site on July 11th there will be an item listed for the Royal? For a smart girl, I'm really dumb when it comes to this stuff. It's that easy, or is there something else I should know? I have just marked my calendar for July 11th.

No, unfortunately I think it's more complicated than that. I guess we are two smart girls, dumb at this kind if thing. Wonder if it is a Bronx thing :p

Try the other suggestion posted here. Pam said she thought that would work. I'm sure we'll get this figured out. Lot's of technically smart people on this board who will come to our rescue.

  14. Will do. Mark thinks he knows how to get it and I'll definitely share it if he's right. They took my email address and everything and said I would be contacted when it airs. NOT! George, the singer in the quartet, contacted me. He is being featured in Episode 3 and I was dancing with him when they filmed us and interviewed me.

    Stay tuned:)

  15. I just got word that the documentary of the Royal, airing in Britain is beginning in July

    Episode:

    1 of 4

    Transmission:

    Fri 11 Jul 2014

    Time:

    8.00pm - 8.30pm

    Channel:

    ITV

I really hope we can find it in the US. Some of those who were on the Royal for the inaugural TA were interviewed, so it's pretty exciting. Of course, we might be on the cutting room floor, but still looking forward to seeing the behind the scenes.
