  1. Formal night is OPTIONAL but I still choose to dress up. If you look at the Carnival website, they state that they do not feed kids during meals. Food is completely subjective, what I like may not be your taste. Party vibe? A cruise is what you make of it. My understanding is drink packages are not covered on private islands for Carnival
  2. I've been there 4 times since the rebuild and will be heading out shortly for my 5th time. That's not including the one time I was there before the construction, so I'd say I love it!
  3. Just answering the first question here, as I don't know the answers to the rest of the questions. When Anthem is not sailing out of Bayonne during the winter months, they sail out of Southampton, England.
  4. I'm not a fan of the streamlined dinner options. I've looked at the menus online, and they're mainly fish, which I don't eat. Has it deterred me from Royal? No. Other cruise lines are doing the exact same thing, plus there's other options onboard if I choose not to eat in the MDR.
  5. Yes l, same with Captain's Club (Celebrity). My family was among the first to join. Each cruise was worth 1pt. The kids weren't well documented then for the program, so even though my parents enrolled me and my sister, when I got my own account, the cruises didn't show for those early years and I had to submit proof that I was on them to get credit. That's why my point values are different than my folks, despite being on every single cruise with them. Now the kids are well-documented, so if my niece continues to cruise with me until she's 18, Royal will have proof that she was on those cruises. Her name now appears on the reservation (unlike when I started), just like mine does as does my parents. As of now, we're ALMOST Diamond: my parents are due to become Diamond either this cruise or the next, and I'm due the cruise after.
  6. I'm actually from New England, it's fairly comfortable here during that time. Sweatshirts/light jackets and jeans will be just fine here. Temps are normally in the 60's and depending on when you come, you might see our peak Fall colors.
  7. I'd bring your vaccine cards anyway or at least an app on your phone that has one. If not that, a picture. Some ports might require it, even if the US doesn't. It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. I don't know if Carnival does this, as my first Carnival cruise in 5 years won't be until next year, but I know on Royal they let you fill out the health forms online the night before the cruise.
  8. We typically cruise on Royal or Celebrity, but like Carnival, they also have arrival times for all their ports. Because we travel with a child (my 10 year old niece), we tend to pick a time between 10 and 11 so that we're not rushed in the morning getting out. We have breakfast at the hotel and lunch as soon as we board before exploring the ship. We do the e-Muster while we wait at the terminal. Rooms are usually ready around 1PM, so we normally head back to the room to explore that around 2PM and drop off our carry-ons before heading back up to deck for the sail away. The only time we've had to deal with crowds so far was during our last embarkation time on Anthem, and it was beyond Royal's control. Some personnel at the terminal had called out sick, causing us to wait outside IN THE COLD for 2 hours. When we cruised on Oasis last October with the same check-in time at the same terminal, we pretty much waltzed on the ship.
  9. Just stopping by to say hi! I just booked a cruise on the Carnival Venezia (formerly Costa Venezia) for April 2024. It's been about 5 years since I've been on a Carnival cruise, however this will be my 28th overall. I've cruised Princess, Celebrity, Royal, Norwegian, Carnival, and Costa before. My family and I will be travelling together from NH. There's 4 of us: myself, my parents, and my 10 year old niece. We have a YouTube channel that chronicles our cruises as well as gives tips. I started it because I'm an Activity Director by trade for Retirees, some of which cannot travel anymore, so I create virtual cruises for my residents. I basically do what John Heald does for Carnival on a much smaller scale, so you bet I will be watching his staff like a hawk! Would love to help any first-time cruisers, just be warned that I may not have the latest information from Carnival specifically (I do keep up with the industry news, but in terms of how Carnival does things verses how other cruise lines do things, I'm still finding that out myself. I will be on the Venezia in April 2024, shortly after she's had her "mani-pedi" (re-fit), so I'm excited, as....in all my years of cruising....I've NEVER been on an....in essence...brand-new ship!
  10. I happen to volunteer for Google, but in order to help you, I need to know the following: 1.) What's his OS? 2.) What's the make and model of the device he's using? 3.) Are there any firmware updates that need to be done on the device? 4.) Did he check for software updates? 5.) In the App Store/Google Play, does it say that his device is supported? 6.) Does he have enough storage to support any updates? If not, is there removable storage that he could use to expand the memory in his device? 7.) Is the App Store/Google Play Store cache cleared? 8.) Has he tried signing out and back in? 9.) Has he cleared the Royal app cache? 10.) Has he tried rebooting the device? 11.) Can he sign in on another device to determine where the issue lies?
  11. Do they allow GoPros on the zipline? I tried looking on the Carnival site and couldn't find anything. I do have a chest strap, so securing the camera is a non-issue.
  12. I'm sitting here in 9-degree temps watching "The Love Boat" with the script from the episode "Two Grapes On The Vine" signed by the authors! It came in the mail today!
  13. I just opened a SCRIPT from the ORIGINAL "Love Boat" 90-min. special done in 1980, signed by the writers of the episode!
  14. Good morning everyone! Just booked this cruise for next year! This will NOT be my first cruise, this will be my 28th cruise. I've cruised across all lines, but this will be my first time on Carnival in about 5 years. I've done the itinerary before, with the exception of Amber Cove. Does anyone know if they allow GoPros on the zipline? My niece has no idea, but she's booked on this cruise with us. She's 10 years old (will be 11 by the time the cruise rolls around). She's only been on 2 cruises (Bliss and Oasis) and is about to go on her third (Anthem). This will be a first for both of us, as neither of us have been on a cruise on (in essence) a brand-new ship (my understanding is that Costa is signing the Venezia to Carnival and it's currently being refitted). My parents are coming with us, and as a family, we have a YouTube channel dedicated to cruising, so you bet the Venezia will be on there!
  15. I'm excited, we booked our cruises for next year: Costa By Carnival's Venezia (April 2024)...a brand-new ship (currently being refitted in the shipyard, last I heard) and Celebrity Solstice (October 2024). The Venezia is going to Amber Cove, Turks And Caicos, Puerto Rico, and Half Moon Cay and leaves from Manhattan. The Solstice leaves from Vancouver and goes to Kailua-Kona, Hilo, Lahaina (Maui), and Honolulu (Oahu),
  16. I have a future Anthem cruise booked and got it, so it's not just limited to Brilliance.
  17. Ok who laughed at the "You have 30 Min. to report to your Muster Station" notification today? I was like "Great, where am I going? Wait....I'm not packed!"
  18. I got it too and I leave at the end of the month....I was like "Dang, that was a quick month!"
  19. It is 100% related to manpower. COVID caused a lot of shortages all over the world in almost every industry, including cruises. If someone is out sick, someone else has to be pulled from somewhere else to work that station. Plus with all the negative press that the cruise lines got from COVID, not a lot of people want to work in the travel industry, so now you have nobody to replace the people who left during the pandemic. They have to do more with less. Not everyone is trained on how to do every job either. For example, you can't pull someone from the Activities staff to cover in the Infirmary when the medical staff is out, simply because they don't have the medical background needed to prescribe medications. Conversely, the medical staff may not be able to cover for the Children's Activity Staff, depending on the requirements of the job (some might require a degree in education). Now, if it's something like needing more bartending staff in some of the locations, that's a little different: you might be able to pull a bartender from another bar, but there again, that now creates another coverage issue....who would be covering that person's station? If there's nobody to backfill some of those positions, then the station has to close. Also, it depends on the weather too: for example, if it's raining out, they're probably not going to get a lot of business from any outdoor bars, so it would make more sense to close them. Also, some of the outdoor activities and attractions might have to be closed, not only for passenger safety, but there may not be a lot of interest in that particular activity in certain weather conditions. Regardless of the reason, the new times are usually very well publicized, either through the app, Cruise Compass, announcements, or RCTV. It should not come as a surprise if the venue is closed.
  20. It should be open NOW, so I would get in that app and get it started.
  21. I'm going on Anthem for a second time. The only show that's available to reserve before you board is "Spectra's Cabaret". The others will have to be reserved once you board.
  22. I do. I work with Retirees and need to keep them safe.
