Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. The cruise terminal to the airport is less than an hour by subway or taxi. If the experience goes well, be among the 1st few to step off the ship at 7-730am, you will have plenty of time to reach the airport. Have early check-in and go explore the Changi Jewels and the magnificent waterfall.
  2. Local sim card. I am using this package as it provides 10Gb of roaming data (for 30 days). Seriously 100Gb of local data will likely melt my mobile device batteries before getting anywhere near this. Sure, the local sim cards at each port of call may be cheaper but are you going to buy a card at every port and assuming the card registrations worked correctly the 1st time? The card can be bought at the airport (see 2nd pic). Your passport is required by law, for registration. Which are the roaming countries ? Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, French Guiana, French West Indies, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Guadeloupe, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Laos, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macau, Malaysia, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Reunion, Romania, Saint Pierre & Miquelon, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, Vietnam
  3. Add: What to do if you have a late flight on disembarkation day? If your airlines is in the list below, note the early check-in. I'd head to the airport and do this or put in luggage storage. 4. Glad you all had fun there. Sorry about the sudden heavy rain and the humidity. I am still nursing my cruise withdrawal syndrome since disembarkation 2 Fridays ago
  5. A short subway ride away from Orchard, you can head to https://chinatown.sg/shop/chinatown-complex/ (Chinatown MRT station) or https://danielfooddiary.com/2019/10/08/albertfoodcentre/ (Bugis MRT station) or https://danielfooddiary.com/2024/01/07/adamroadfoodcentre/ (Botanical Garden MRT station) I will avoid Newton Hawker Center.
  6. Everyone. Mask is "strongly encouraged in Public areas" 15Dec Local News
  7. You just have to check those hotel booking website to see what suits your budget and the availability. Singapore isn't big and easy to find your way around.
  8. Before arrival, you need to complete the visitor arrival card https://www.ica.gov.sg/public-education/myica-mobile
  9. Seriously, there is no need for the so-called airport transfer unless you wanted a Merc 300L or a RR for privacy, style & class. But if you want, there is Maxi cab for a fix fare (i can't recall how much, but I will never use them as I lived about 5 stations away from the airport). Just use Grab/GoJek app will do. I use a few such app, for price comparison as Grab prices can be crazy at times.
  10. Singapore cruiser here. Reposting what I have shared in a roll call about Singapore. Hoped this helps in your planning Basic Information about Singapore. For those with pre & post cruise plans Where to exchange foreign cash ? Money changers everywhere in Singapore for this. Best rates in Singapore's Chinatown as there are plenty of competition there. If you forgot, at the cruise terminal has a booth there too. Local food centers, a highlight for my visiting friends, are mostly cash. The local cashless system requires a local bank account, so unlikely for you. Most supermarket, restaurants and bars in Singapore will accept your Visa / Master card. Public transport i.e. subway and buses, also accepts your card - tap to get in, tap to get out. Is there Uber here ? No, but local version of this ride hail GoJek, Grab & Tada. How far from airport to cruise terminal ? By taxi 35mins+, by subway 1 hr (Marina South Pier station & a 10 mins walk under the shelter). Yes, you can bring luggage onboard the subway. Signages are in English and we all speaks English, so no worries about getting lost. How far from hotel to cruise terminal ? Depends on your hotel location. I guess it's about 15 - 30 minutes depending on traffic. Free Wifi ? At the airport, cruise terminal, most major shopping malls and your hotel Data sim card ? Your passport is needed for registration. Avoid getting the sim card at airport. They sell the high priced version of these pre-paid cards. Look for the phone kiosk / stalls near your hotel. You need to ensure that your phone is "unlocked", i.e. not restricted by your home mobile operator to use only their SIM card. Prices starts from S$10 for 100Gb and valid for 30 days. Data sharing is allowed. Some comes with 1Gb of roaming data in certain neighbouring countries. Check their banner for details. I am currently using SIMBA S$25 pre-paid card which comes with 10Gb of roaming in 57 countries (Group A countries) Public toilet ? We are better than Italy, free public toilets are everywhere (not behind the bush). In the malls, food center (which may charge you 20cents per entry), subway stations etc. Duty free imports to Singapore ? None for cigarettes & cigar. The alcohol part, see the chart. Booze & cigarette are expensive here due to the taxes. Personal use recreational drugs / vapes ? Don't even think about this. It could be a nasty fine, jail or even death sentence. Plugs & Power socket The power socket for Singapore is UK type 220V. Adaptors for your appliances easily available at the local stores for about a $1+ each. If you're buying, get the ones with the fuse (13A) for safety. Singapore / UK plug
  11. By taxi, it is less than 10 minutes but you will get slap with a terminal pick up surcharge of S$8. Use the Grab/GoJek app (our local version of Uber) instead. Walk, possible, 30 mins. - seen cruiser doing that. Streets are paved, with traffic lights and all. Is there any luggage storage on site? I recalled some coin lockers near the enterance driveway - you have to ask the staff for the exact location.
