Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Charles4515 … we paid $50 per person for the excursion through Celebrity. We know now, total waste of funds! We thought by going through the cruise lines, we could save headaches of waiting for the ferry and possibly waiting in long lines to get back to the Dockyard. Live and learn!
  2. If you have ever been to any caves in the US, you will be very disappointed in Chrystal Caves. The “tour” only lasts about 20 min. It takes longer to walk in than the tour itself. We did the “tour “ in June and wished we had spent the time and money elsewhere. note….the buses are cheap, but they stop constantly to pick up riders, so it takes twice as long to get anywhere. If you only have a full day or two, think about how you really want to spend your time. We have another cruise to Bermuda booked and will know better what we want to see and do.
  3. We did this excursion through Celebrity last week. Wasn’t what we expected. Lots of vendors selling various items. Very few stores open. Lots of very loud music with various dance groups. Best part of the experience was being out after dark! Something we had not done on a cruise before due to time limitations. note….the private ferry provided by Celebrity was clearly not up to Celebrity standards! Not a life jacket to be seen. chairs were just folding chairs, not anchored to the floor. Upstairs the railings on the side were not up to any kind of code, anyone could have fallen off if the boat had shifted. We have written our concerns to Celebrity.
  4. I did the Hot Glass twice, enjoyed so much. Carried home in my carryon wrapped in clothing. No issues with scanners when we flew from Seattle to Pittsburgh.
  5. We were on Summit this past week. There were people wearing masks, didn’t think a thing about it. I think about 99 percent of the crew were wearing masks. We read that masks were required in the theater and casino, but that was not enforced.
  6. We just returned from Summit, cruise began on June 26. We are both Seniors and we weighed the chance of getting Covid and still went anyway. As we figured, we could get Covid going to Walmart. It’s a chance we were willing to take to have a cruise we had cancelled twice and waited 3 years to take. If we come down with Covid, it could have come from the cruise, from the buses we took, from the ferry we rode, from the rest areas we stopped at on the drive home or the restaurant we got food from once home. We won’t blame Celebrity and we will cruise again ! Life’s to short to hide at home!
  7. We just got back from June 26 sailing on Summit. If there were shortages, we didn’t see it. If I read other posters correctly, they encountered shortages of various wines and liquors, but you will find that at home these days. If that is important to you then postpone. We had a great time, didn’t miss a thing and thoroughly enjoyed our week. Only complaint…it went too fast!
  8. We drove to Bayonne from West Virginia because we didn’t want the current hassle of flying. We also did not want the hassle of NYC traffic ! Was convenient for us. Yes, our GPS got us lost on the wrong side of the terminal, but a helpful UBER driver we flagged down got us on the right track. More signage off 440 would be most helpful! We will continue to take cruises out of Bayonne until the airlines get their act together, which might be 2050.
  9. This past Wed. We arrived at Horseshoe around 9:30 am. We go the last umbrella, there was a line waiting and the staff gave it to us because “ we were seniors”. If they got a new supply of umbrellas, the staff didn’t know! We only stayed a few of hours, so we let ship friends use our umbrella as we were leaving. The staff at Horseshoe made them pay the $15. I guess they have staff watching the crowd for transfers.
  10. We are just back from Bermuda, via Summit. Began on June 26. While in Bermuda this week an American couple were in a terrible scooter accident. Wife in ICU with head injuries. Husband was seriously injured but not in ICU. Talk of the ship was how dangerous it is to drive on the island. It was scary on buses and in taxis and these drivers are used to the roads. I would not recommend for anyone.
  11. We were at Horseshoe Bay this past Wed.the 29th. It was very crowded but we enjoyed. There were many Portugese Man o War and several swimmers were stung. They closed the beach to all swimmers on Wed for that problem. So best have a plan “B” this time of year. We took the $7.00 shuttle from the Dockyard. It took us right to the beach entrance. The public bus is cheaper if you have a pass, but it drops you off at the top of the hill. Not bad going down, but quite a trudge back up. The shuttle is a min-bus and they will wait until it’s full to leave, but that was not an issue for us. We left right away to go to the beach, and maybe 10 minutes for the return. I’m older so the walk up the hill for public transportation would have been a real issue for me.
  12. We just returned from Bermuda yesterday (July 3). We were at Horseshoe Bay on Wed and there were a lot of Portugese Man of War. Several swimmers were stung. The beach was closed on Thursday because of this. We used the shuttle at the dock to get to Horseshoe, cost $7.00 each way. They drop you off at the beach and not at the top of the hill as the public buses do. There was a short wait to return as they waited for the shuttle to fill, but the wait was only 10 min. Not a big issue for us.
  13. Bermuda buses and ferries. We returned yesterday from Bermuda in the Summit (June 26 cruise). Since we are avid Cruise Critic readers, we read everything possible on Bermuda before our departure. Recommendation was to buy a transportation pass, good for ferries and buses. Which we did on arrival. Two things we quickly found out.. Ferries don’t run very often so we found ourselves with long wait times…often 2 hours or more. Buses take “forever” as they stop many, many, many times to pickup riders. We have already decided that taxis are worth it when you consider the short amount of time you have in port. Talking to others on the ship, they agreed that their time is worth the additional costs.
  14. We parked at the cruise terminal last Saturday, June 26. Arrived at 10:00 am and parked on the second floor, indoors. Once the covered parking fills, then cars are parked in a lot across the street. We found it was very easy to drop off our luggage and then park. The return to the dock yesterday was very easy. A porter moved our luggage outside, where I waited for the car. There is an area to load luggage to your car right there. Then it was out the door! Very quick! ps…there are Kiosks outside the terminal to pay for parking, speeds the process even more.
  15. Thanks for all the information! Sounds like we will be hoping that plastic is back. I’m all for helping the environment, but it sounds like the cans weren’t very well thought out as far as actual usage goes.
