I was reading his tweet while watching a live shot from the street right outside the terminal that's under water.
The family that owns a few of the parking lots were showing photos to try and let people know that the water which is on the street is not getting to the cars. The Lighthouse parking lot seems to be the best choice given how much higher it is from the street.
I drove by the terminal like an hour ago and that part of harborside was totally clear. We had to maneuver around some barricades a bit but most of the roads were clear (a handful of blocks had some standing water still, but they were the exception).
I was able to drive right up into the terminal complex.

Flew into Houston just fine this morning and sitting in our airbnb in Galveston right now. Some roads were flooded coming in once we got on the island, but Broadway was pretty much clear and the area we are is totally fine (up by the med school).
Weather is quite nice at the moment - sun is actually peeking through some clouds. If this dry pocket holds I'm pretty optimistic that the schedule may hold.
If another 10 inches of rain drops, though, I can't see anyone making it to/from the port. For now I think everyone is holding and waiting to see if the rain winds up coming in force again.

I guess I'm missing something, how will the ship dock with the port closed?

I believe the idea (hope) is that the port would reopen sometime tomorrow.

So according to the RCL meteorologist on twitter - they're currently still planning for Galveston and have a conference call with the port at 1pm. I suspect we'll get an update sometime after that.

Just landed at Houston Hobby from Boston - looks like about half the flights are coming in and half are cancelled going by the board.
Cautiously optimistic here that the port will reopen by Sunday given the favorable change in forecast.

If you want to cross the street and see a car coming, do you just cross or do you wait for some indication tha the car is going to stop?
The point is that the current models seem to show that the car may not be coming our way.
Also: Living in Boston means that everyone absolutely does just cross and assume the car will stop for them :p

I mean, it's making landfall as a cat 4 storm right now, there isn't that much uncertainty left.
I mean, yes and no. If it doesn't wind up turning towards Houston overnight, the only real effect on the port this weekend will be lots and lots of rain.
Let's not forget that Corpus is a couple hundred miles down the coast.
I'm not saying it looks good for Sunday, but it's not a foregone conclusion that everything is toast.

Where are you docked?

At that time they were docked in Cozumel as scheduled.

I just thought it a bit odd that someone with all cruises listed in their signature were with CCL but yet trolling a RCCL board.

From what I can tell, the reports that the port is shut through Tuesday all stem from a statement from one port authority representative this afternoon in an uncertain context (I haven't been able to find the direct quote). However, none of the actual Port of Galveston or City of Galveston information says the same thing, nor do any of the cruiseline statements.
I'm surprised, though, that ship left Cozumel for Galveston if they didn't have some reason to believe they could dock before Tuesday.

Here's hoping we hear an official update in the near future. I'm also scheduled on the Sunday departure, and would like to be able to make alternate plans in earnest sooner rather than later - but so far even my Saturday flight is still showing as planned.
I do find it interesting that there are a couple reports of the port saying they'll stay closed through Tuesday, but none of the official Port of Galveston channels appear to be carrying that same message, yet.

I mean, it may be insanity, but that's no reason to speak definitively about things you're just wrong on. I'm on Galveston right now about 10 blocks from the port. We have power just fine, and most roads here are totally clear.
Hell, as we speak we have some winds but not even much rain is coming down where I am (though I understand some is coming down to the west).
As of a few hours ago, all roads were passable. Houston is getting absolutely hammered, but it's not actually that bad here (yet).
Of course, none of that means that the ship will be a-ok to dock, though.
