  1. Who is insane? The person who sets the price, or the person who agrees to pay the price for something they don't necessarily need? (depending of course on your definition of "need")
  2. Usually I think it can be a choice of chardonnay or pinot grigio. Probably a very low cost brand.
  3. We have ATT. We have a "plan" where we also pay $10 per day when we use our phone in a foreign country. Then we use calling, data, etc just like at home.
  4. Is what it cost worth it to you? Some people seem to think it is extremely important to be on a cruise ship for a week and will find a way to pay whatever it cost. Some people think is is extremely important to see Taylor Swift and will find a way to pay whatever it costs. Some people do not care about either of these things because they need a new roof on their house. To each their own.
  5. I am only concerned with bottom line UNLESS one provider is also offering some nice perks that another is not. I don't really understand all of the different items in the pricing, but I do know that when I had payed for a 4 cabin family cruise that was canceled by RCCL due to Covid, the refund to me kept coming in bits and pieces over the course of several weeks, with each portion having a different designation. I eventually received all of the money I had paid. In some ways it is like buying a car with all of the different charges/discounts for various equipment packages and rebate incentives. At least, to me it is.
  6. I thought the BOGO for Diamond+ was only available for nights 1 and 2 and only at Chops or Italian. I also though you could only book it once you were onboard. Has there been a change in the policy?
  7. Thank you for the very good information. A happy and prosperous New Year to each of you.
  8. Sorry about the messed up formatting. I have looked on the Port Canaveral section and I find much information about hotels, airport shuttles, etc. But I do not find anything about a port stop at Port Canaveral, Simple question: Are Uber/Lyft/taxis available to come to the pier and take you to local beaches? Or must you use the cruise lines shuttles?
  9. I am taking 8 people on the Anthem of the Seas cruise on March 26. I have gone on the RCCL web site and managed to link our reservations together so we can dine together. Then I started looking at reserving IFLY and North Star. I guess I was surprised to see that there was a charge for these items, which I thought were "free". The offerings were only on certain sea days. So, are these things available at other times for no costs? If so, do they have to be reserved and, if so, when do you reserve them? I looked at reserving some of the shows, but it said to come back closer to the cruise date. What shows need to be reserved? Our dining time is at 7:00 each evening. Will that time allow us to see any of the shows? Any information/advice you can offer for this particular ship is most welcome. This is a Christmas gift to the family, so I want to try and make it a very nice experience. I am D+, if that matters, which nowadays probably doesn't. Thank you.

  11. I have purchased a cruise for my family. We have 4 staterooms and 2 of them are connecting. The connecting ones are for 2 parents and their 2 children, ages 12 and 15. When I booked, I was told that there had to be one parent in each stateroom with one of the children, per RCCL policy. So that is how we booked it. I was also "told" that once we got on the ship, the two parents could simply sleep in one of the rooms and the two children in the other. Have any of you done this previously? If so, then why do we have to book it as though it is different than what will actually happen? I don't want anyone getting into some "glitch" once we board.
  12. We have 8 people going on Anthem in March. I thought it would be nice for all of us to dine in Chops one night. I see that children between the ages of 6 and 12 are charged a much lower price. But I also see that there is a sample "children" menu on the web site. So, if a 12 year old goes and pays the lower price, do they have to order from the children's menu? Our 12 year old has traveled quite a bit and would probably be disappointed with that menu. Information/advice is welcome. Thank you. Also, currently our cruise is showing a charge of $149 pp for the Cocoa Cay water park. Seems to be an extremely high price compared to other water parks we have visited. Just saying.
  13. If we have one adult and one child in a room, do they still get 2 bottles?
  14. We have not been on RCCL since April, 2019, when we did a family cruise. We have planned another one for March, 2023 aboard the Anthem. I and my DW are D+. It is my understanding that we each receive 5 drink vouchers per day. Are we allowed to have all 8 of our family go to some bar for "cocktail hour" before dinner and use those vouchers to treat each person to a cocktail before dinner? It seems to me that I was doing something similar in the "good old days" (pre-Covid), but it also seems that a lot of things are changing on RCCL since I last cruised with them. Anyone done this lately? Also, what is the current number of bottles of wine allowed to be taken on at embarkation, and what is the corkage fee if you take them to dinner? Thanks for any information you can offer.
  15. And just to add, that last spring we had flown to Orlando and rented a large house. We had 3 rental cars. As we were all on our way to the airport to return the cars and fly home, we each got messages from Delta that all flights were cancelled for that day and we realized we would not be able to fly home for several days. We each went on our phone apps and extended our rental agreements with a drop off in Detroit and started driving. This was at 3:00 in the afternoon. Maybe with a little bit of planning and an early morning start the driving won't be so tiring. MAYBE.
  16. Just reporting back that we have booked 3 rooms for that Saturday night at the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Stroudsburg. Plan is to drive about 8 hours from Detroit on Saturday and then on to the ship on Sunday morning. We will have 3 cars and park at the garage or lot at the port. When we disembark the following Sunday, we will get our cars and start driving home. One couple has to be home by Sunday night, but the other two cars can take our time and even stop for the night if we choose. Now, just hope there will be no late spring snow storm. Thanks for all of your suggestions.
  17. I thank everyone for the suggestions. We are not necessarily on a budget, but this is kind of a "Christmas gift" from me to my children and grandchildren. We have reserved 4 balcony rooms next to each other, with 2 being adjoining. I guess I am somewhat "shocked" that flights at convenient times are over $500 pp for a relatively short flight. I continue to monitor the air prices, but am just wondering what we might be able to do IF we decide to drive. There is also a real possibility (based on our own personal experiences) that our departing flight could be cancelled, which would mean we have to go back to our vehicles and start driving. I always "over plan" in case something goes wrong. I am not anxious to drive anywhere over 4 hours at a time, but the others in the group are much younger and don't really mind.
  18. We will be cruising on Anthem of the Seas on Sunday, March 26. It is a family cruise and considering the price of airplane tickets, we may be driving from the Detroit area. We would leave on Saturday and stop for the night at some place that would give us a shorter drive ( 2 hours-?) on Sunday morning to the ship, where we would park at the terminal. For those of you who either live in the area or may have previously done this, where would be a good place for us to stop? We would have 3 cars and need 3 hotel rooms. All information/advice is welcome. Thank you.
  19. Maybe they do not want to spend every moment of the cruise with someone else. Can't you each do your own thing for some of the day and then meet up for dinner or drinks or entertainment at other times? When we go on a cruise with "groups", that is what we do, and everyone seems to have a good time without being constantly in a group.
  20. When we did this, we stayed at the Westin hotel in Jersey City Newport. Several good restaurants within a short walk. We took UBER from airport to hotel, hotel to ship, and ship to hotel. We plan to do the same thing for the Anthem cruise in March.
  21. We are just thinking 2 or 3 UBERS. Or taxis. We could also pre-arrange a couple of vehicles from Carmel or some other service. It is a 3 generational family trip so we don't all have to go in the same vehicle.
  22. We are a family of 8 scheduled to arrive back at Port Liberty on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at 6:00 a.m. We will be flying home from Newark. We can purchase a flight at 11:30 a.m. or 1:47 p.m. The 11:30 flight is quite a bit less costly. We will have to take taxis or UBER to the airport. We can walk off with our luggage if necessary. Wondering what those of you who have been on this ship in a similar situation think. There can be a lot of traffic, but it is on a Sunday. What would you advise? What time would you suggest we leave the ship? Any information/advice is welcome. Thank you.
  23. We are a family of 8, scheduled to arrive back to Port Liberty on Anthem of the Seas, Sunday, April 2, 2023. Arrival is currently scheduled for 6:00 am. We will be flying home on United from EWR to DTW. Our choices are an 11:30 am flight or a 1:47 pm flight. The earlier flight is $450 less (total). Would it be reasonable to purchase the earlier flight? We would have to take Uber or taxis from the ship to the airport. I know traffic can be bad, but it is a Sunday morning. We can just do a walk off with our luggage, if necessary. Just looking for information/advice from people who may have been in this similar situation. Thank you.
  24. We are from Michigan and usually fly to Florida for a March cruise. Airfares currently are more than the cruise. We are considering a cruise on Anthem of the Seas, March 26, out of Cape Liberty. It would be a 10 hour drive for us, but that is much less costly than the air tickets. So, I realize that weather is not always an exact science, but I am just looking for information from people who may have done a cruise at this time of the year from the NYC area. I know that we will probably have nice weather the days we are in the Florida and Bahamas area, but am wondering about the first and last sea days. This is a 3-generation family cruise with 6 adults and 2 girls, ages 13 and 15. Any information or advice about weather or parking at the terminal is welcome. We have cruised from here before, but that was in the summer and we flew in the day prior to the cruise. Thank you for your assistance.
