Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. The soft drink options were Coke products, Coke Zero not diet Coke. Ask for what you like, they will replenish daily. Don’t remember energy drinks, but Viking will let you bring your own on board.
  2. Any time really. In general, everyone must be out of their cabins by 8:00 a.m. People using Viking Air are grouped by departure time, Viking will get them to the airport with plenty of time, everyone off the ship by 9:30ish so they can turn the ship over for the next cruise. Some early departures may be off the ship by 2:30. You will get color coded luggage tags. Option to put your suitcase out the night before or carry them off yourself. The day we disembarked, the Bergen marathon was being run causing some traffic delays. The check in process at the airport was having system issues and the line to check in was crazy long.
  3. What a surprise to receive an upgrade 2 days before we fly out for the Med Odyssey, A PV1 from a DV4. Our traveling companions are already on board, and will be at the opposite end of the ship instead of right next door. There seems to be more available cabins compared to last time I checked the website. Perhaps people have canceled due to unrest and US State Department warning.
  4. Put the bags out the night before like everybody else. Kept our personal items with us. Reclaimed large bags at airport for airline check in.
  5. We flew home from San Juan on a late afternoon flight. Delayed departure to airport, no hotel or excursion. Customs made everyone leave the ship but let us back on board to relax and have lunch. Spent the time watching the newly arriving passengers’ awe as they explored. This was October 2018.
  6. When to buy insurance is a complex topic, we had vouchers that would expire the end of 2022 from Travel Guard that we used from a Covid19 cancelled trip. Most insurance companies require insurance purchase within 14 days of first payment. We have previously only insured the deposit and added coverage when final payment is made.
  7. We are scheduled for Fusina (Venice) in October
  8. We booked a cruise at the end of December 2022. The first week of January, the same cruise was offered with a reduced cabin fare, free gratuities, free silver beverage package, $25 deposit and a later final payment date. I talked to our Viking rep, she said we could change to a different sailing then come back a couple days later to see if there was availability to change to our original cruise. Cancellation was $100 per person. We had two cabins booked, so we processed the cancellation and rebooked. My referral credit did not carry over. Our travel insurance was with Travel Guard. Because we were within two weeks of the original booking, Travel Guard allowed us to modify the policy. We received money back because our trip cost was reduced. Not sure if Viking’s insurance would transfer.
  9. Thanks Linda! Three sisters and I are on the Saturn on October, the beverage package was a promotion when we booked, but I am the only one who typically drinks alcohol/wine. One likes Diet Coke, one likes Coke Zero and the third sister drinks regular Coke. Someone will be out of luck for their beverage of choice but are looking forward to Success Cake. Oh the sacrifices!
  10. Thank you, we are going in October. Nice to see what is offered.
