Great!!...I was also on the cruise and I did a video from the aft lido pool area...it was amazing....also since it was the westerdam's first trip to San Francisco many of the crew..including the cooks...etc were also out there taking pictures.
For someone who rode over the bridge every weekend as a child going to my grandparents weekend place near the Russian river it was a surreal and emotional moment for me! I am so glad I was able to do this cruise:)
Jane,
It was so fun for us to see the crew coming in from the balconies with big smiles on their faces. Please share your video if you can. I imagine it gave you goose bumps. It was emotional for me as it was my first trip to SF.

Thank you, I loved hearing this again. It was a great cruise, wasn't it!
Yes, it was a great cruise! I am so sorry we missed the M&G with everyone. We were busy touring the ship with our HAL newbies. They are hooked now and are already planning our next cruise :) We had an aft wrap and literally ran from the front of the ship to our cabin to see the bridge from the back. The weather was amazing.

For all of the sail away addicts like me missing the Westerdam horns......I took this video out last Tuesday sailing into San Francisco. I was surprised that this was the Westerdam's first trip to San Francisco. We had a fabulous trip on this first leg of the repositioning cruise.

Enjoy your trip! We have taken the ferry from Seattle to Bremerton many times and I agree! Great sightseeing on a budget. My son was stationed in Bremerton for 3 years and we loved that trip. We cruised to Alaska with them on the Westerdam and it was the best vacation ever. Great ship and amazing scenery.

Local BC Liquor store should be cheapest wine prices - just search the site for a wine you know the price of already to compare relative value. If you're going Princess or other 'X bottles free' lines, it's almost certainly cheaper to pick up a bottle locally; if you're on an NCL-type 'corkage always applies' line then it's only worth pre-buying pricey wine, ballpark $30 and up.
Sodas - nearest supermarket/big pharmacies (i.e. no big markups like small corner stores sometimes have) would be Urban Fare or Shopper's Drugmart.
Thank you so much for the awesome info and links!

I haven't been to Vancouver for 20 years. We are staying one night pre-cruise at Pan Pacific. Any suggestions to pick up a couple bottles of wine (or do Canadian taxes make it not worthwhile?) We'd also like to purchase some bottled water.

I thought about buying TP and facial tissues in port but I didn't want to risk messing with the ship's plumbing. I didn't remember even noticing this on past cruises. Since this was my worst complaint about my cruise I can deal with it!

Hi! Sorry we didn't meet you on this cruise. We were on the last leg of your B2B. My understanding is that luggage direct has certain times for flights. It sounds like your flight may have been too late for LD. The biggest disadvantage for us was the early departure from the ship (7:30) and are flight wasn't until 12:45 so we were stuck at FLL for quite a while.

Back from our cruise and getting adjusted to below freezing temperatures! I just filled out my survey and forgot to mention the toilet paper . OK, so I know there are so many things to post about but I have been LOL to myself about how bad the TP is and no one (that I have seen) has posted about this! :p Please keep in mind this is a "tongue in cheek" response but I just had to do it! BTW Our cruise was wonderful!

Going to be a lot of late pax in FLL today. Only one runway open and incoming flights are all delayed. There are a lot of unhappy people on our flight today. I would never fly in on the same day.

I've been a member of Cruise Critic for several years and don't post regularly but lurk often. Lately on some threads I've noticed a bunch of people jumping on the board about responses being mean or "ganging up" on people. For what it is worth, I notice things that may come off like that but I also have observed the helpful comments from many people that may be taken the wrong way. I just want to put it out here that I have appreciated everyone's input and comments that make cruise planning so much easier. There are so many things about cruising on HAL that I never would have known had it not been for the CC group. Thank you all for making my cruise planning much easier due to the wealth of information on these boards.

OMG! Can you imagine the screaming and hollering!!! I never have understood the fixation with one's post count but it seems vital to a few egos.
LOL! Now I feel like my random few posts are only to increase my post count  I'm mostly a lurker and couldn't give a rats a** about my number of posts. I just come here for the information and sail-away threads. Since the boards have been down in my final days to my next HAL cruise, waiting for my laundry to dry has been excruciatingly painful.:D

Way to go Westie! I am hoping our flight next week isn't delayed so we can hear her in person. Sailing on the Eurodam on Sunday.:D

I need to look on my back up hard drive for pictures. We will be on the Eurodam in February so I will be sure to be thoughtful with my pictures and send some. Thank you all for doing this!

We have sailed out of Port Everglades several times and have our routine down pat. We usually stay at the Embassy Suites or Holiday Inn Express on the 17th St. Causeway. We always walk over to the South Port Raw Bar for dinner and drinks. Then on to Total Wine pick up our wine. This year we really only need to pick up a couple of bottles of wine due to the new policy and now know that it it the 40th anniversary for the South Port Raw Bar so they will be packed (on 2/15). Any suggestions for easy dinner (local) and drinks withing walking distance on 17th St. Causeway? Preferably with a view of the port. I tried to change our reservation to Pier 66 but they are booked.

I don't think you can go wrong with either one. NA is newer but the WD is a classic. We have been on both and love the aft cabins.

I love the "cashless" society now on HAL. I remember the days when our last cruise day was spent figuring out all the people that served us so well and putting cash in envelopes to deliver. We always keep a supply of 1's to tip the room service person that brings our coffee in the morning. During the duration of the cruise my DH keeps a list of the people that we thought went above and beyond and we deliver an additional tip to them the last day including our room stewards. Since I go to the casino and he does not I always take some extra cash the last couple of days to tip the staff that took care of me. We automatically figure in the hotel charge and tips in our budget so we know what to expect. The staff works so hard for us and we love to help out. We are middle class and by no means anywhere near to being wealthy but we budget the extra cash for the crew all year long by saving our change so we have plenty of cash for tipping.

Welcome to CC! We are on the same cruise! We have not been on the Eurodam yet but have been on her sister ship the N.A. You should have no problem storing your empty suitcases under the bed. We have a couple of large suitcases that fit under there with no problem. As far as the laundry, I highly recommend the "all you can fit" in one bag for $20. Our adult children used it on our last cruise and they were amazed at how much they could stuff in that little bag. With the high fees for checked bags on the airlines it helps to keep you from over packing. No one will notice if you wear the same thing later in the week.
Enjoy your cruise!

We've been to Key West several times. We are opting for the scooter rental this time as it is only $55 for 5 hours for a 2 person scooter. Since my DH is a good driver this will be perfect. We have rented bicycles there before but as we are getting older and I am recovering from foot surgery, we decided this was the best option.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I just logged on for the first time in years. Prayers for his family and for the CC family that loved his posts as much as I did.
