  1. And sadly sometimes no matter what you do, you still get sick. On a cruise a couple years ago, was very careful - wearing masks, sanitizing hands, staying away from crowds where possible, etc.., etc.. Still caught it. Fortunately it was like a bad cold at worst. It's here to stay, much like the flu and head colds. I will say that since Covid I have been masking on all flights and that has helped tremendously in cutting down the number of colds I have caught.
  2. I always recline my seat just a little bit because if I don't I will experience back pain that will last for hours if not days. I do it slowly, and as I said, for just a small amount. I don't consider that rude. What I do think is rude is when, without any warning, people slam their seats all the way back with no regard or consideration for who may be behind them and what might be on their trays. But overall, the seats are built to recline. So calling someone rude for reclining seems a bit off the mark to me, especially on long and/or late night or very early morning flights. The real issue is the airlines building seating so tight and uncomfortable that it affects others when you recline (not to mention being squeezed shoulder to shoulder, which is often the case for me as in order to sit next to hubby I am always in the middle seat) And I'm not sure what this discussion has to do with zip ties - boy, has this thread gone in a different direction! My bad for even participating in that change.
  3. I have been on cruises with large groups where public areas were occasionally closed off but this is ridiculous! I would be furious with them, especially on a colder weather cruise with a lot of sea days. That's just not right. I have a b2b cruise on Eclipse in January for 19 days, with a lot of sea days and I am not in my usual sky suite this time so will be out and about more. I will definitely not be a happy camper if this is going on then!
  4. apologies - I forgot that. Interesting that so far only the Reflection is reporting this. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that it is that ship that is starting the 3 and 4 night sailings which attract an entirely different (and likely rowdier) crowd, as well as a lot more kids. Hmmm. So tens of thousands all need to suffer because a few people can't behave themselves.
  5. I have sailed Celebrity 80 times over 30+ years, starting with the Horizon. Lest you think I am just a Celebrity "cheerleader" if you read my series of posts you will see I point out the good and the bad. Is it like it used to be? No. Better in some ways and not as good in others. I sailed Eclipse a year or so ago, and have a b2b booked on her in January. I obviously would not hesitate to sail her again. Yes, the ship is a little worn, but she is due for a refurbishment next March I believe it is. So even that will be better by the time you sail.
  6. Don't know you or what you like so it would be hard to sell you on it without that knowledge. Summit is a medium sized ship, with a comfortable design compared to some of the newest ships. It is not boring by any means but has more of a classic, ocean liner feel to it than the newest ships. It has a lovely large bar called Rendezvous which is one of my favorites in the fleet. It has a wonderful adults only (except for a few family hours) inside pool that is warm and has some spa like effects. There is no smoking inside anywhere. I have sailed to Alaska on her sister ship, Millennium, multiple times and loved it. My favorite is a b2b from Vancouver up and back.
  7. This thread has really taken some interesting turns. And at the end of the day, I don't think one single post confirmed zip ties on chairs, or showed us a picture of any! So come on folks, if this is really happening let's see some confirmation or proof. Makes me wonder if this was fake news, or a one-off incident (although a couple different people reported it on FB) on one ship for a specific reason (which I can't fathom).
  8. Exactly! It is all about the science. If the seas are rough, there is more motion far forward or aft, and higher up. That's a non-debatable fact. I really, really hate it when people respond saying they felt no motion at all. Good for them. Maybe the seas were flat that cruise. Maybe they would have felt the motion had the seas been 20-30' which I have sailed in (fortunately not too often). I am prone to seasickness myself so accurate answers on this topic are very important to my fellow sufferers! it's all about the science and the seas - period.
  9. To my knowledge Celebrity has not made any recent adverse changes to things like they were regularly doing in recent times. Some of the bad changes were reversed. For many of them the complaints have been said (often multiple times) so there is no need to keep repeating them. Some of the most loyal cruisers have, sadly, felt the need to move onto other cruise lines. I think all of these have led to a reduction in negative posts recently. One other point is that due to marketing changes like 3 and 4 night cruises and the status match with Royal, it has brought over new cruisers to Celebrity who have no idea that some things aren't as nice as they were several years ago. So it's still a very nice product, just in some cases not as nice as it used to be (and often way more expensive, but they don't realize that either)
  10. Looking at the deck plans, all AQ seem to have cabins above and below them so that is good. You may be quite a ways back towards the aft of the ship if you care about that. Also you may know already that this category of cabin does not have a traditional balcony, but rather an infinite balcony. Some love them; some (like me) hate them as I spend a lot of time on my balcony. Keep in mind once assigned, you have to take the cabin they assign you - you can't switch to a better location (you can always try, but the general rule is that you can't)
  11. If you are on a Celebrity shore excursion you go to wherever the ticket tells you like everyone else. If you want to go ashore on your own, go to the Retreat Lounge and they will get you on the next available tender
  12. Access to Blu is granted, with no prior requests needed, probably 99% of the time
  13. I've used it several times on cruises. For example covering the door peep hole when the little metal cover was broken off and let too much light shine in at night.
  14. Oh good heavens. It's ridiculous lawsuits like this one that make life difficult for everyone. One person does a stupid thing, gets hurt, and then it changes life for thousands. I don't like a lot of the changes on Celebrity lately but I can tell you for sure I'm glad I'm not the CEO or President!
  15. I completely agree - that is why I am asking if anyone else has actually seen this. I'm hoping it's not true, but unfortunately more than one person reported it and the way these things have been with Celebrity it wouldn't surprise me. Fingers crossed it was just one ship and that it was temporary (of course it's on the ship on which I'm doing a b2b in November 😒).
  16. Multiple people on other social media sites have reported that Celebrity is now putting plastic zip ties on chairs to prevent them from reclining. You can't be serious! Has anyone else experienced this? The ship in question happened to be Reflection. First they take away loungers (sometimes it seems) and now you can't recline the chairs?!? How is one supposed to comfortably enjoy the balcony we paid so many $$$ for? Sitting upright all day like you're in a school classroom? One of the reasons I am willing to pay more to book suites and/or cabins on the hump is for the larger balconies which I use a lot. This may seem like a trivial thing to many who don't use their balconies much, but for those of us who do this is a game changer. I have many cruises booked with Celebrity in the next year and a half and now I'm wondering if some of them need to be cancelled as we spend tons of time relaxing on our balconies.
  17. Understand. It is pretty pricey. Since we retired we fly a lot on various trips including up to 9 cruises per year (granted some are b2b). So for now it's worth it to us. When the inevitable time comes when we have to cut way back I'm sure we'll reconsider
  18. Part of the difference may be the number of passengers in the fully booked Suites. I was on several cruises earlier this year with a lot of families (kids of all ages up to college age). The ship was at 100+ capacity. Luminae had a wait to get in.
  19. Our carpet and curtains were old and worn. I do remember the bed being very comfortable fortunately. Looks like they only updated fully the suites higher than Sky Suites
  20. I beg to differ as regards updating suites. We sailed an S1 Sky Suite B2B the January after restart. The cabin had not been updated at all. The TV was small and did not even have access to our account online, nor movie channels. The balcony furniture was the only part updated, and it was pretty nice. Not saying I didn't enjoy the cruise because I did and the public areas were in great shape, but perhaps only the higher level suites were updated.
  21. For that matter, in some airports (Fort Lauderdale comes to mind) good luck getting a seat even if you bought club access or use a Club Visa card like we pay quite a bit for each year! The clubs are just not big enough to handle the influx of all the special credit card offers going around these days.
  22. It shouldn't be a question of which is bigger per se. But it is important for the features others have mentioned which may be of value to you at this point in time. And while I wouldn't pick just on size as the HC suites are for those who really need them, since you just had surgeries and you may need a scooter they will definitely provide more space to store the scooter in addition to the other helpful configurations.
  23. I agree that perks will likely start to erode away, especially the Pinns getting all the Zenith perks even though it was way easier to achieve that status on Royal than what we had to do to get Zenith on Celebrity. You are welcome to your opinion but I definitely do not share it as regards Zenith in the lounge. It is very hard to achieve Zenith (again, unlike achieving Pinnacle) so there are rarely many Zeniths on any particular cruise (an occasional exception, like some TA's). It is a perk there for a long time, then taken away even though we were told it was temporary, and finally, finally restored and once again promised not to be taken away. I don't like comparing it to Royal because there are very few perks for Zeniths going to Royal as opposed to Royal being matched to Zenith!
  24. Layers and rain gear. We've sometimes had quite a bit of rain in September. That said, it's probably our favorite time to go.
  25. Most insurance companies will authorize an earlier refill date if you contact them ahead of time and explain the circumstances. Sometimes the pharmacist will call for you; sometimes you need to call yourself, depends on the pharmacy.
