  1. What are the dining choices at night? Is there another dining option other than the main dining room ie a buffet al fresco? Our cruise from Cairns to Brisbane will be warm so love the idea of dining outside some nights.
  2. Interested in anything you say about your cruise. We will embark in Cairns. This will be our second cruise with Ponant although a different ship. Really looking forward to cruising with them again.
  3. Thanks for your suggestions. Actually I’m happy to make an early reservation at every restaurant I’m able to on line. What I would find a problem is turning up at 7 at a restaurant and not being able to be seated at a table. So I can book every restaurant on line except Atlantide and S.A.L.T Kitchen? We’re seasoned luxury cruisers but not on the newer SilverSea ships with different dining to what we’re used to. That is the attraction, something new and different. We’ve cruised and travelled all over the world, now staying closer to home and the ship becomes the destination.
  4. We had these bottles or similar on a Silver Explorer cruise many years ago. We saw the butler take them away with others from adjacent cabins to refil. Who knows which one we got back! I don’t like this.
  5. This particular voyage we are traveling by ourselves…unusual for us. We like to eat early. So are you saying that apart from Silver Note, if we turn up at any of the dining rooms when they open we will be able to get a table for 2 without having booked it ( apart from Alanttide and S.A.L.T Kitchen which don’t accept reservations)
  6. We are booked on the Nova next year. Please could you tell me which restaurants we will have to book on line before we go and which ones don’t take bookings. Thank you.
  7. I had the same issues too. Wouldn’t accept my address or email. In the end I gave all the info to my travel agent and they did it.
  8. Unfortunately this is not available in all countries. Not in mine!
  9. Thanks, that’s probably where I saw it. What does boiler mean? It would be good to hear from someone who is on board or has been recently, to confirm.
  10. Hi Jim_Iain Could you please tell me if you had coffee and tea making in your cabin. I seem to remember reading somewhere they had a Nespresso pod machine but can’t find it now. But nothing re making a cup of tea. Thanks.
  11. Thank you so much for reassuring me about cabin 618…I went ahead and booked it. Now I’m getting excited about my cruise, 6 weeks to go.
  12. Were you happy with your cabin 618? I’m about to deposit and it was that one or 608. Thanks for your help in making my decision.
  13. That’s great, thank you very much RELS. I’ll pass that info on to my family. They’re all into fitness and this is their first cruise.
  14. We are cruising on the Explorer with family in a couple of months and some of them have asked me about the gym. Since I’ve never set foot in the gym please could someone help me with finding out what’s available in the gym as far as Pilates and yoga. Are these bookable before we travel or do you book them once on board. And if so how do you do that? Thanks.
  15. You’ll still need it for cruising in Australia.
  16. As a long time cruiser of Regent and Seabourn, we have cruised on Silver Whisper many years ago and more recently on their expedition ships, I’m now looking at returning to Silverseas with the new relaxed dress code. I’m sure I’m not alone in the way I’m thinking now.
  17. Always used Rydges hotel. It’s a few steps from the international checkin. Dinner is ok there too.
  18. I had this same problem with an extension cord when Embarking in Sydney this year on a Seabourn ship. First bag arrived promptly but by 5 pm the second had not. DH found it himself at security. This same extension cord has been used on every cruise we’ve taken and never have we had a problem before. Next time it’s going in my hand luggage.
  19. Thank you LittleFish1976. I have just received this from Westpac ( Allianz). I’ve posted it to be helpful to others. Please be advised that according to Policy information booklet (on page 18), Definition of Spouse: “the partner of the cardholder who is in a permanent relationship with the cardholder at the time the journey or trip starts.” According to above information if you are in permanent relationship however not married, you will be considered as partners under this definition Should you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us on the number below.
  20. Re the Westpac CC insurance. My son has this card and asked me if his fiancé who lives with him at the same address is considered his ‘spouse’ in the T&C. I will give them a call but first of all I’d ask since there are some very knowledgeable and helpful people here.
  21. I have spent hours and hours researching travel insurance and reading all the T&C for our several cruises and trips each year. For the very reason you found with Southern Cross, I did not like their policy at all. Perfectly acceptable if you have no medical conditions new or old. But buyer beware if you do have medical problems. All too ambiguous, so therefore not fit for purpose. I’ve found other policies particularly underwritten by Allianz to be much more transparent and can attest that we’ve had to claim twice in the last few years due to cancellation of cruise through I’ll health and had no problem with getting refunded for quite expensive cruises. And both of us have pre existing medical conditions that we pay extra to cover.
  22. Thank you very much cheznandy, 2022cruisey, and Ozwoody for your excellent reply to my queries. Very kind of you all to post the relevant paragraphs. Much appreciated.
