Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Understood. The reason I’m asking is that I have an early excursion one day and probably need to leave by the time the PG restaurant opens. Not a big deal any which way.
  2. In that case the basic package should be ok. I think you might be able to upgrade if it’s not working for you. If it is totally awful, complain and get it all or some it refunded. Just a reminder to make sure your phone is on flight safe mode. Also, by ‘text’ I think you probably mean WhatsApp message? Just trying to make sure you don’t get charged a fortune for roaming!
  3. Hello all Quick question: is the room service menu the same in the Grills as in Britannia/Britannia Club? I’m travelling on QE in the Med in September. Thank you!
  4. I love the QM2, but G32 is a little old fashioned. It’s more school disco than club. You may prefer that style but I don’t. I personally just find it a bit lazy and unimaginative. This is ultimately a thread about opinions and preferences. I enjoy classical music in the Queen’s Room and house music in a club equally. Actually one of the things I like most about cruises is the breadth of music I get exposure to. There are already lights and video screens in G32, so it’s more an upgrade of what is there already. Lasers we are can debate but they are used in ships all over the world. Cunard can be many things to many different people. Why use an old fashioned lighting system? I looked back at some of my photos and the dance floor is relatively small and rather oddly positioned. Cunard could make more of it. I won’t debate what the floor is made out of (!) but from my photos much of it in G32 was not wood.
  5. The essential plan is only really good for small emails and WhatsApp messages with no or minimal photos. Web browsing is just about ok. If you want to send multiple photos or have data calls you need the premium plan in my experience.
  6. Back to the original question - yes, jeans are absolutely fine pre 6pm either for breakfast or lunch. No one really cares in my experience. If in doubt, opt on the side of being smarter. I usually do chinos rather than jeans, but that’s a personal preference. I’ve generally found the TA to be smarter than the Med and Caribbean sailings.
  7. Much better internet. Total refurbishment of the spa. It looks really tired. Take note from the Edge class celebrity ships. Removal of all of the rust outside and more repainting. Cutting edge lights, lasers and dance floors in G32 (which I otherwise much prefer to the Yacht Club). I’d also suggest thinking about how to give the Verandah more of a wow factor.
  8. Really? I’ve got the Indulge package booked for a cruise next month. It was comparatively very good value for money, so maybe that’s why they got rid of it!
  9. Nice picture! I suspect we agree that making effort and looking good for the formal nights is all part of the Cunard experience.
  10. I usually pack the weekend before. However, well in advance I try to: 1. Order any new clothes, shoes and toiletries required. 2. Make sure the dinner suit, regular suits and jackets I want have all been dry cleaned. 3. Confirm if there is any themed balls etc. and work out what (if anything) I need - e.g. mask.
  11. I’ve asked on Twitter. I will report back if I hear anything useful. There are two locations starboard mid-forward on decks 2 and 3 where a club type venue might be located. They are both just listed as “Bar” on the deck plan currently. Neither of them show a dance floor but “bar” suggests to me that the exact fit out and configuration is still to be determined. I think the equivalent location on some of the HAL ships is the Rolling Stone Rock Room. I must confess I’ve never been on a HAL ship but it appears to have a dance floor, albeit a relatively small one from the photos I’ve seen.
  12. Hello all I’ve read various comments that Queen Anne will not have a Yacht Club or equivalent of G32, nor will there be any club type venues with a dancefloor. Does anyone know if that is true? I will also contact Cunard on Twitter to ask. I’ve looked at the online deck plans and there does not appear to be any reference to a Yacht Club or anything broadly comparable. Many thanks!
  13. I agree. It is a bit of a mess. One of my issues with the Cunard website is that it has not been figured to accept promotional/discounts codes, which many other retail and travel websites manage with ease. That forces more calls into what appears to be an already (very) overstretched call centre.
  14. Yes, it will qualify. It is obviously a separate question how useful platinum status is once you have it.
