This!  and please don't be one of those people who run into others from behind while beeping your horn and yelling get out of the way.  Also, please don't run over someone's foot.

Whilst this does happen. There are people who think it is perfectly fine to step out in front of a scooter/wheelchair and expect the scooter/wheelchair not to hit them.

Geraingerfjord (I think) has a floating dock and tenders. It’s unclear to me which ship gets the dock (we’ve asked). Get the floating dock, wheelchairs and scooters work. Don’t get the dock and you’re using ship-based launches which are generally.not power wheelchair friendly.

We were told that cruise lines that contributed towards the cost of Geirangerfjord floating dock get use the dock.

We will be traveling with our three grandsons on the Oasis in the Caribbean next April.  They are video game junkies and are old enough to be left in the stateroom while their parents are out doing adult things.  The question I have is, are there accessible connections on the TV in the staterooms to allow the connection of an Xbox?  Secondly, are the wifi speeds for the Voom streaming package fast enough including sufficient ping time to allow for gaming?

Instead of taking an Xbox consider a handheld gaming console. It will fit nicely in the safe when not in use.

  4. Hi and welcome to CC (Cruise Critic).

It would be helpful if you could give us some information about flying: For example, are you willing to fly and where are you willing to fly to?

We like Norway. We are a non flying family (for medical reasons) and sail out of Southampton. We have found Norway is more wheelchair friendly than some other countries we have sailed to.

  5. Another vote for not sailing with Virgin.

I'm not sure if the production company deliberately edited the show or if the passengers were just that laid back but there was no complaints. Two excursions were ruined; 1 due to a power cut and another due to the family not being told that they could ring for a private shuttle. Both family's did not seem to mind but I would be angry.

  6. Hi, my son uses a wheelchair so I hope some of my points will be useful.

Embarkation Day: You can ask for wheelchair assistance ( this is where a staff member pushes the wheelchair user through check in and on to the ship) but consider if you need it. On our last cruise, May 2022, people were waiting up to 2 hours for wheelchair assistance.

Theatre: There is wheelchair places at the back of the theatre. These space are for people who are either wheelchair bound or just want to sit in their chair's. Normally only 1 person is allowed to sit next to the wheelchair user. If you all want to sit together the other family members can sit on the back row in front of the wheelchair space.

Port Days: There is always a staff member by the gangplank to push wheelchairs users on/off the ship.  Depending on the steepness of the gangplank we sometimes push the chair ourselves particularly if there are other chair users waiting.

Lifts: You can struggle to get a wheelchair in to a lift/elevator at busy times (end of theatre shows etc).

My advice is don't let anyone who gets impatient wait with the wheelchair uses.

If you have mobility issues which would need an accessible room, you might also need a MDR table that is more easily accessed, but I guess they might no always be correlated.  Maybe what they really need is an additional data point to collect in the reservation per-passenger to indicate if that person uses a wheelchair or other mobility device.  But again, that would mean RCCL IT would have to make programming changes, and that either won't happen, or probably would not work very will.

If you book an accessible cabin Royal, normally, sends out a special needs form that the passenger is suppose to fill out and return to Royal. One of the questions on the form does ask if anyone in the cabin uses a wheelchair /scooter.

  8. Every cruise line has dedicated special needs department for disabled guests. Email this department with the details of your cruise; i.e. date of cruise;  ship and your reservation number and they will email you a list of suitable wheelchair friendly excursions, if there is any.

The diaper/liner combo really hasn't failed us.  We didn't mention anything to the attendant, and he didn't mention anything to us, but i'm pretty tidy, especially where it comes to keeping up with the diaper situation.  I'd make sure the bags were tied up securely and if there were several of them, I'd just put them into another bag.

I also do as @Broons77 has written.

I do strip the bed on the rare occasions that the diaper/liner combo fails and place the wet sheet in the shower.  As my son is doubly incontinent if there is a partially horrible smelling pad I take the pad to the nearest public restroom and dispose of the pad in the baby diaper bin.
