  1. Amazing how skinny & small the battleship Wisconsin looks compared to Oasis.
  2. Beautifully written and so heart-felt. Very mature for his age. No doubt it's with the help of his grandmother too! πŸ™‚ Hope your daughter is healing just as well too.
  3. If I'm reading the email correctly, the up to $200 is for travel expenses (flights, bus, train, or mileage). No mention of overnight accommodations. You may want to reach out to your TA or Royal for clarification.
  4. Agreed. Very knowledge, first hand knowledge, without being a know-it-all, Doesn't BS if he's unsure of all the facts. The VLOG guys has a lot of industry knowledge as well - certainly more than me - but seems to stretch it out a bit. He acts as if he's onsite & has examined all the damage, the ship, etc already,
  5. I did. I wrote "And perhaps their viewing angle, it was hard to notice that a ship had slowly drifted off course." Maybe you meant to quote someone else?
  6. No, you posted that kindness should be shown to those that made it back to the ship on time. I'm just merely asking you if that includes to those that take enjoyment in the misfortune of others. The topic being that we shouldn't feel sorry for those that miss the ship, not matter the circumstances. It's understood that people are responsible for their own actions and no, the ship should not have to wait. It's still okay to feel bad for those that missed the ship. Just my opinion, yours may be different.
  7. If they were engrossed in conversation or looking down on their phones catching up on texts/social media, it'd be easy to miss. And perhaps their viewing angle, it was hard to notice that a ship had slowly drifted off course.
  8. Do we have to be KIND to the people that apparently take glee in the misfortune of others?
  9. Carnival had to act faster as their ship is returning this weekend. Royal has the "luxury" of taking a few extra days to work on several contingency plans. Probably waiting for the bean counters to figure out which one has the least financial impact. Also, outside chance, but maybe by next week there might be a realistic timeline as to when the shipping channel will be open and if restricted to one-way traffic. That could also impact whatever temporary plans Royal has for Vision.
  10. She even got the name of the Carnival ship wrong, saying it was the Pride, not the Legend, that was still at sea. The Pride isn't schedule until mid-April. Probably just lumping all cruise lines together with fact checking.
  11. I just finished reading and enjoying your review of MSC Magnifica. Thank you for taking the time to do that. Will you be doing a review of your Liberty sailing? I'm contemplating doing my first solo cruise. Not necessarily on Liberty but she is a sentimental favorite of mine as she was both my first cruise as well as my last cruise. Just curious to see her thru the eyes of a solo cruiser.
  12. I remember being in elementary school & class project was to build a eclipse viewer using an old shoe box and tin foil. Despite my viewer looking exactly like everyone else's, the only thing I ever saw was the inside of a box. Operator error, I guess.πŸ˜’ Still, it was a thrill to be outside instead of inside a classroom.
  13. Funny things about taking a picture of a steep hiking trail, it never appears anywhere near as steep as it is in real life. Same with ski slopes. After skiing down what feels like a cliff, turn around to take a picture & it looks like a gentle incline in the picture. Fantastic pictures as always.
  14. I prefer the first one. Clean and elegant. Second one does have a "crazy & funky" appeal. Definitely a conversation starter. πŸ™‚
  15. Totally understandable that you wouldn't want to travel long distance & attend a wedding solo. However, it would have been interesting and cool to see what public figures would be there & how they acted at a private event.
  16. I found this in the CNN Breaking News section. It's a few hours old so you'll have to page down a ways. Looks like they may try a phased reopening by having one-way traffic first while continuing removal to allow two-way traffic. Here's how the Army Corps of Engineers plan to clear the shipping channel From CNN's Aditi Sangal More than 1,000 US Army Corps of Engineers personnel were activated to help clear the critical shipping channel where Baltimore's Key Bridge collapsed. Lt. Gen. Scott Spellmon, commander and chief of engineers, explained the team will approach the mission in three steps. Here's what they are: Step 1: Get the steel trust out of a 700-foot-wide by 50-foot-deep channel, and examine what parts of the concrete are still at the bottom. "Any piece of concrete, any piece of steel on the bottom is just as much as of a hazard as that in the channel," Spellmon said. This step will allow "one-way traffic going in and out of the Port of Baltimore again," he said. Step 2: Work closely with the Coast Guard to stabilize containers on top of the ship. Then the trust of the bridge that is still on top of the ship needs to be taken off "so it can be tugged to a safe part of the port," Spellmon said. "By removing the vessel, that will allow us to reopen two-way traffic." Step 3: Take out the remaining 2,900 feet of steel and all the associated concrete and roadway that's at the river bottom. "We're up to this task. We have what we need," Spellmon said. -------------------------------------- Shall we start placing bets as to the timeline for one-way traffic & two-way traffic? πŸ˜‰
  17. The same quote can be found here: https://www.ajot.com/news/port-of-baltimore-may-reopen-in-six-weeks-dhl-executive-says β€œI don’t think this closure is going to last that long, maybe six weeks or something like that is what I’m hearing,” said Jim Monkmeyer, president of transportation at DHL Supply Chain, a Deutsche Post unit based near Columbus, Ohio. β€œI’m hearing May – nobody is saying when in May β€” that’s why I’m saying six weeks.” @Engineroom Snipe Since you are betting the house - whether it be a birdhouse, dog house, house wine - go with the "Or something like that" πŸ™‚ I'm sure the guy is privvy to more information from on-site experts than anybody on this forum but he is president of a shipping company whose profits are about to take a hit. I'm sure he's been fielding calls from nervous investors & customers so he's trying to put a positive spin on things. Just my own cynical interpretation.
  18. They are lucky to get all this free advice, aren’t they? πŸ˜‚πŸš’πŸŽ“ Free? If I see Royal use any of my fine suggestions, I'll be demanding compensation. OBC, cabin upgrade or at least 1 night at a specialty restaurant of my choice. You can be sure I'll be firing off a strongly worded email to Mr. Baley, no doubt that will get results! 🀣
  19. @DaniDanielle Do you go to McDonalds for breakfast? If not, you should! https://www.cnn.com/2024/03/26/business/krispy-kreme-mcdonalds/index.html
  20. Similar to the many Park-Sleep-Fly deals at hotels near airports, maybe Royal can reach a deal with some of the parking lots around Newark Airport. Or better yet, MetLife stadium. It has a 28,000 car parking lot. With a 2,400 passenger capacity and 2-3 people per car, Royal would need 800-900 parking spots max! Probably less for those being dropped off or flying/Amtrak. Other than a concert every other week there isn't much going on there until Sept. And even then, there isn't much going onπŸ˜„πŸ˜‰ I can see it in the Cruise Planner now. "Pre-Cruise packing package includes secure parking spot, free shuttle to and from cruise port and 1 welcome aboard drink. Book now & save 30% and Kids Park for Free"πŸ™‚
  21. Once the channel is open, do you think there may be additional restrictions limiting the number of ships or when it can be used? I would think cargo ships would have priority. Just wondering if the cruise lines do not have a 100% guarantee of access, whatever short-term temporary plans they have for Vision might become long term temporary plans.
  22. I must've watched a couple of those video's a half-a-dozen times now. Like others said, it's amazing how quickly it came down. If it was a movie, I'd be saying how unrealistic that is. Prayers for the 6 people still missing. EDIT: One thing I did notice is the lack of traffic just prior to impact as compared to a few minutes earlier. At first I thought chance luck but just read the ship did issue a Mayday call which allowed authorities to stop traffic in time. It could have been so much worse.
  23. Based on the links posted by @firefly333 and @bobmacliberty and my own extensive (5 minutes) of Google research, it looks like Taino Bay is the more convenient of the 2 port areas. Once you get passed the man-made area, the city is right there within walking distance, although the few TripAdvisor reviews I briefly scanned do mention it's a bit industrial for the first few blocks. In fact, most reviews concentrated on the immediate cruise port area, so it seems to be a bit like Falmouth, I guess.
