  1. What are some ways to get from the Port Authority on 41st st NYC to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal where NCL docks? Rome2Rio has two choices 1) taxi - is it really only $11-14 or 2) walk- 24 minutes. How feasible is it to walk? I am very familiar with NYC from many years ago- grew up across the river in NJ. Would this walk go through a seedy neighborhood (in the am) I plan to have a carry on so luggage not a problem but the taxi is a no brainer if only $11-$14 for ease and safety. I first planned to take the bus from Portland, Me to the Port Authority, NYC for $170 round trip. I found a flight with a much better arrival time (due to it being much shorter to fly than by road) for not that much more. It arrives in Newark. There is a bus from Newark to Port Authority for $9. Aside from an NCL transfer from Newark Airport to Manhattan Cruise Terminal (which I havent investigated yet) what are other choices? Has anyone done this, interested in your experience. If the NCL transfer from airport to cruise terminal was $75 , going by bus from Newark airport to Port Authority and then Taxi to the dock might be about $25. I like to consider all possibilties. In January weather could be a big factor. Anyway, interested in all experiences I would rather arrive at Newark than JFK or LaGuardia unless I was taking an NCL transfer. Making your own way from those 2 airports would be a hassle. Newark much easier
  2. All of this is fine. I would not be happy if my connecting flight was the next day though (unless I arrived on my first flight just before midnight) Of course I would prefer a direct fly but at the savings I think I have gotten I can be flexible.
  3. Across the top of the NCL website it reads: You have unused future cruise credits and then in smaller print next to that "Book any stateroom on any sailing through 12/31/2025" What does this mean? I am logged in I have seen this before, then it disappears
  4. What was the point of Choir of Man? I could appreciate the talent and the energy but failed at getting the point. But that's true for other choices that others might love.
  5. You need to specify in your 2nd sentence you are still referring to Teppanyaki "anyone that wants to use a free specialty meal from a package cannot reserve before the cruise". I know you are probably still referring to Teppanyaki. I know nothing about Teppanyaki but you can definitely reserve "a free specialty meal from a package" before the cruise. My travel partner reserved the times for our choices. online before the cruise. Many others did also because he remarked how there weret many open times to choose from. But the late dining times that were still available on line were easily changed to earlier ones on board. So people must change their minds. In fact, at Ocean Blue we had reason to inquire about something and were told we could come anytime, didt have to wait until the time we reserved.
  6. I dont think they are very careful about the wording on their website for many things
  7. sounds like an annoying problem that at only 5 ft 2 have never had to deal with.
  8. Its a new policy so it might take a little time. I agree about the website not syncing with shipboard practices many times
  9. Yes I do remember reading not to put your dirty dishes etc outside your cabin door. Clearly not enforced. I can remember "back in the day" that it was common practice for passengers to put their trays and dishes from room service outside of their cabin door. More people used room service back then it seems. I'm referring to the 1960's. I remember because I was a teen who would have loved to sleep in and ordering breakfast to my cabin but my mother would not allow it. The stewards used to come around and knock loudly on your door "7;30, good morning" unless there was a do not disturb sign on the door I would imagine.
  10. First of all, I am not talking about garlands or spider webs decorating the outside of the cabin doors. That is just ridiculous. But for small signs or magnets, there is more to worry about in this world than what people have on their ship cabin/apartment door as long as its not actually defacing the surface it is put on. That would be different entirely. And political signs would be repulsive. NCL may have banned door decorations but they dont make it well known. I have ever heard of it, nor when I was passing the doors did I think "oooh, lawbreakers". And why wouldnt the cabin stewards remind the passengers of the rule. NCL takes action about real fire hazards, like electrical appliances. So stupid, just worry about things that matter. A magnet on a door doesnt.
  11. You have the option of not having the room steward make your bed if its a problem to always have to pull it away (I think it would be) Or else tell him/her what and why you are doing that and they will probably leave it alone. On the first day I tell my steward not to bother making my bed and that I can take care of that. Just please make sure I have dry towels and empty the trash. I also clean up any messes I make, crumbs on the floor etc. So there's that option to configure the room the way you like. I figure they have enough work to do. I also dont want to have to deal with worrying whether my presence is getting in the way of their work. Towels and trash are easily taken care of. I know you didnt ask for this info lol
  12. I'm unable to find your original post but I either misunderstood or you edited it after I had read it. When I commented my comment seemed appropriate so not sure what you had written.
  13. I'm glad you found it. I found it by booking a cabin as a solo traveler. This only happened in the last few weeks and doesnt start until 2024. (that is the solo inside, oceanview and balcony)
  14. I have read the criticism of the coffee in the main dining rooms. I didnt understand, it seemed fine to me. However, on the recent cruise on the Encore I thought the coffee lacked any oomph and wondered if they were serving half reg/half decaf or even full decaf. It tasted okay but did nothing for me. So my travel partner suggested picking up a Starbucks to compare Now that had some zip to it. I'm not a regular Starbucks drinker but I do drink it from time to time. I wondered why there would need to be a Starbucks package on board. Were people that addicted to their Starbucks? My travel partner said they used to do that when he worked as a nurse- they would serve decaf to patients who requested coffee later in the evening, and not tell them.
  15. Just try to book a balcony cabin, for example, change # of guests to 1 and you will see the option for a solo balcony cabin. Not hidden, but it is new. I dont think there is an explanation on the website other than in the cabin choices when booking. I was just trying to be funny which is why I said "some" might comment you need to check the website. Like those that comment "you need to read the T & Cs".
  16. This is somewhat related but why no objection to people putting room service food outside their doors on the floor? Half eaten food looks kind of disgusting in my opinion
  17. On my recent trip I wished I had some and made a mental note to bring a supply next time. I took two croissants from the bread basket in the main dining room at breakfast one day. I forget what I had to wrap them in but a ziplock would have been better. They are only going to be thrown out. Not served to someone else after being on your table where your might have put your hands all over them. never even thought it would be frowned upon. I'm sure the specialty restuarants have their own set of rules. I can understand not wanting their china spread all over the ship
  18. This one is really funny Thank you for the laugh. A ploy looking for a tip? (possibly)
  19. I dont think its obvious because i was not aware of the rule of no door decorations. Please dont tell me I need to read the T & C s lol. I also didnt see anything obnoxious or visually annoying.
  20. I agree with your last statement. And I will add that if door decorations bother someone, then dont look at the doors going past them. Who cares what is on other passenger's cabin doors unless it comes out and grabs you as you pass by. I found some of them amusing, others gave a neutral impresson. Now if people post political stuff that could cause some problems. But again, dont look.
  21. I got a good laugh reading this one. I can identify with the person who couldnt remember his cabin number. Next time I plan to write it on my keycard but I didnt have a sharpie with me this time. Some people are more organized than others lol. I think the OP was just being humorous by the "after a few drinks" part.
  22. There is something about the studio cabins that appeal to me. I am sure a large balcony cabin would appeal but they are usually out of my budget. Even with the new category of cabin for solos a studio still appeals to me. Maybe I would change my mind after traveling in one. I would think passengers timid about traveling solo might like the idea of a restricted access lounge. I have no problem with being down a long hallway somewhere.
  23. Some might comment that you need to check the website frequently for changes. This category of cabin that also gives studio lounge access is new. (Obviously only if the ship has a studio lounge. There are ships with the new category who dont have studios and therefore no lounge)
  24. I agree, that is also my understanding. Personally, I couldnt care less about a restricted access lounge but some might
  25. I agree on two points. 1) a solo passenger in a regular inside would not be allowed in the studio lounge 2) it doesnt make sense but you know how that goes. Having restricted access would be important to some solo travelers so it is a benefit that comes along with only the new category and studio cabins. Maybe in the future they might allow all solo travelers. That would make sense.
