Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. We have always felt that the Princess mattresses were very comfortable, although on our last cruise on the Emerald Princess the mattress did seem a bit too soft for us and I started experiencing some back pain. We were traveling with another couple and they thought their bed was too soft also so they asked their room steward if anything can be done. They were informed that the mattresses can actually be turned over, and have a soft and hard side to them! I had never realized this before so we requested our room steward to flip ours over to the hard side as the default is soft side up. What is nice, is that because the queen size beds are actually two twin size beds put together, if one couple prefers a softer bed while the other prefers a firmer bed that can be accomplished. In the past I suspect our mattresses were hard side up as we didn't notice them being as soft as on the current cruise.

  3. We are on the Emerald Princess now and will be sailing through the Panama Canal later in the week. I want to go out on the observation deck above the bridge but I want to know what time they open the doors to allow access to this area?
  4. you may be thinking of the facial recognition that is utilized by US border patrol when you disembark in a US port instead of having to show your passport.
  5. I have not seen any announcement of the price increases for WiFi. Can you direct me to a post or Princess announcement of this change? never mind. I found the post
  6. I logged onto the Princess website and logged into the cruise personalizer and chose our most recent booked cruise (we have two cruises booked, a 15 day B2B with a 14 day cruise). At the top, under a bundles tab, there was a note that they were offering upgrades to packages so I clicked on it. It brought me to a page showing the Plus and Premier packages and when I clicked on the upgrade button it gave me the option to buy these packages at a reduced cost. We currently only have the standard fare as we do not consume alcohol and since we are Platinum level we get our Wi-Fi at 50% off and we did the math and the Plus package at $60 per day did not work out for us. However, their upgrade offer now offered us the Plus package for $39 per day for our first 15 day cruise and $54 per day for our second 14 day cruise. We are still not biting at the this offer as the math still doesn't work out although it is close. We would end up paying an additional $15.50 per day for the Plus package after deducting the $16 crew appreciation and 50% Wi-Fi ($7.50) being paid for. That is for the first leg. On the second leg we would end up paying more. Will these offers become even more attractive as the embarkation draws closer? Currently we are 19 days out. The Premier package offer for our first cruise is offered at $52 per day (compared to the $80 charge) so people who paid for the Plus package could have gotten the Premier package for less! My question is, how do you feel having paid full price and now others being offered a substantial reduction for the same package? Is Princess finding that people are now not choosing these packages and are they in a scramble to get people to buy them?
  7. from my understanding, it is visible once onboard but does not appear prior to that.
  8. What do you mean "if the Packers were in it"... of course they will be! Go Pack Go.
  9. We have had both and prefer the perpendicular ones compared to the ones which are parallel to the ship's length for two reasons: The bed is farther away from the hallway which makes it a bit quieter for sleeping. We also find the storage area seemed bigger
  10. The old app had the option for sending messages to other cruisers (as long as you had requested and been approved by them to be your shipmate). The quirk with that system is that the app did not have any notification bell or icon to let you know that you had a pending message waiting so we didn't use it too much. On the new app I see a "crew chat" but I do not see any "cruiser chat". Maybe you have to wait until you are onboard to see it? While you can use Facebook Messenger or Whatsapp to communicate with fellow cruisers that only works if they all have a wi-fi package. On our upcoming cruise with another couple, one or both of them, may choose not to purchase the wi-fi package (we are all sailing with the standard fare - and yes, we did not math, the Plus package does not pay for us). We are unsure how we will maintain contact with them without a chat feature.
  11. THIS is absolutely true. You hardly ever hear someone giving praise to something but you will hear someone complain. Perhaps it is just human nature or the times we live in today when everyone has high expectations. We sailed on the Sky last February and noticed staff shortages that made things not run as efficient, and while it was frustrating, we also realized that we had to grin and bare it. We could have complained but once out at sea they have no way to supplement the staff.
  12. check again. I didn't see my reservations right of way but you if you look in the upper right hand corner of the reserve dining page there is a small calendar with a heart in it if you have reservations. Click on that and hopefully your reservations will show up.
  13. I downloaded the new app and it appears all of my information from the old app was transferred correctly. My dinner reservations held intact as well as all excursions. I do like how they did some of the features. I was never a fan of the journey view on the old app. It required you to swipe down and across too much and it was difficult to find information about events. I tended to use the Princess Platter instead to plan my daily events. The new journey view is now arranged much like the Princess Platter and you can click on an event for more information and it will also tell you how to get there! So far, so good.
