Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. We just got off our Australia & New Zealand B2B. Celebrity has the turn-around day down to a science. One or two days before the end of the first leg you will be invited to a meeting in the theatre where they cover the process. All B2B passengers will be given a "Transit Pass". Once the ship clears customs (probably by 8:00am) you can leave the ship. (You MUST leave the ship by 9:30am). All you need to take is your Passport, Transit Card, and cabin card. Celebrity will keep you cabin card when you leave the ship since you will receive a new card when you reboard... even if you are in the same cabin. You can reboard the ship anytime after 11:00am up until final boarding time (you mention 5:00pm). When boarding there is a SEPERATE LINE for B2B passengers with a Transit Pass. Just walk through security, then customs (which takes like 30 seconds) and basically back onto the ship. The whole process is 10 minutes at the most. Go to your cabin where your new cabin cards will be waiting and you are good to go.
  2. Just got off the Edge. We had 2 bookings at Eden and 2 bookings at fine cuts. After the first Eden meal we canceled the 2nd Eden booking and instead ate 3 times at Fine Cuts. Our Eden meal was very substandard. DW lobster was tough and chewy. My filet was overcooked. Sent it back and it was still overcooked. The service was great. Too bad the food didn't match the service. I had the ribeye and the bone-in filet at Fine Cuts. They were cooked perfectly. The service was on par with Eden. And yes.... the noise comes up from the Atrium. Make sure you get a table by the windows or on the far side of a partition which really cuts down on the outside noise. With all this said... I agree with others who stated Fine Cuts (and Eden for that matter) is overpriced for what you get. I always book during the 40% off events that Celebrity frequently have during the year. It makes the reservation more "on par" with non-cruise restaurants and steak houses. Doubt I would ever pay full price.
  3. FYI... I'm currently on the Edge eating in the Luminae. The menu has at least 8 entree selections each night, not 4 as previously mentioned. You should always fine something that is acceptable.
  4. I love it when people describe Celebrity has trash... but continue to cruise with them. I'm currently sailing on the Edge, day 20 of a 22 cruise. Have 10 Celebrity cruises under my belt, always in a Sky Suite. We have a "team" supporting our Sky Suite. The service offered has been the BEST we have had compared to all other cruises. We are very low maintenance but the head butler checks in on us every day, sometimes multiple times a day asking what he can do for us. We started out getting out own soft drinks from the Retreat Lounge which we have always done on previous cruises. Somehow the Butler figured out what we were drinking and they mysteriously started to appear in our room every night when we returned from dinner. (I first assumed it was the cabin attendant bringing the drinks but later found it it was the Butler). Multiple changes to specialty restaurants were handled immediately with a simple phone call to the Retreat phone number. Having a dedicated butler would have made no difference whatsoever in the level of support we have received. With the changes being made it might be best to give Celebrity a chance before making a judgement.
  5. The is no "classic menu", but you can usually order off the menu. For an appetizer you should be order something like a salad or a shrimp cocktail. Remember... on embarkation day the kitchen is limited or obvious reasons (restocking, guest turnaround, etc.)
  6. Just got off the Millennium 2 days ago. You will be upcharged for any wine not included in the premium beverage plan (so any wine greater than $17 per glass). And it applies to any bar or restaurant including the Luminae and the Retreat Lounges. Our favorite wines (Decoy, Elegance, Conundrum, and Cherry Pie) are all now priced at $19 per glass. I knew the pricing before I got on board so I was not surprised by the increase. (But also not happy about it). My biggest issue was when I found out Caymus has been increased to $35 a glass, so a $17 upcharge. That is where I drew and line. Don't expect any special treatment or pricing just because you may in a suite/Retreat. You won't nor should you get any special preference. Yes... when in the Luminae if you order an upcharged wine they will ask to see your card but after the first time they will just remind you that there is an upcharge to your wine request. In my case the upcharge was applied but they didn't apply the upcharge to any "top offs". Of course I was drinking wines with a $2 upcharge so if you are drinking Caymus you experience my be different. If you frequent any certain bar if pays to make friends with the bartender and waiter. Treat them right and after the first day when ever we sat down our favorite $19 glass of wine would magically show up, no card, no upcharge. Of course your experience my vary depending on the ship & personnel.
  7. I've always staying in a suite when cruising with Celebrity so I don't know this answer. Tomorrow I'm booking some friends from Germany for their first ever cruise which will be on the Solstice. MDR dining is at 6:30pm, 8:30pm or "anytime". My question is, if booking 6:30 or 8:30 are you always seated at the same table (with same wait staff) every night? Or can you at least request to be seated in a section served by the same wait staff? Their english is limited so a consistent wait staff would be a big help.
  8. We are doing a TA this March. I'm in a suite but my friends have an outside window cabin. Looking at inventory there are lots of balcony rooms. I would like to treat them to a balcony upgrade. We are not eligible for a move-up bid so I’m hoping I can request the upgrade once onboard. Has anyone had experience or luck with such a request? Who on board do you make the request to? We are actually doing a B2B so will be onboard the week before our friends so can I make the request earlier? Thanks for any input that anyone can provide.
  9. I have a lot of OBC to use up. Has anyone used their OBC to purchase excursions for a friend booked in a different cabin? I know I can pay for dinners, etc., but how about excursions?
  10. Can you tell me what are the nightly show times in the theater? Thanks.
  11. I was on the Summit 8/31 to 9/11. They had Karaoke two different nights n the rendezvous lounge.
  12. Until last January the Free At Sea Promotion included 5 "free" dinners on cruises 15 days or longer. We booked such a cruise in 2020 which will sail in March of 2023. In January NCL changed the promotion to now include only 3 dinners. I'm making the strong assumption that since the cruise was booked prior to the promotion change it will be grandfathered to the original terms of the promotion. I'm sure others were in the same boat (pun intended) and have already cruised since the promotion change. So the question.... did you receive the benefits of the promotion you booked under?
  13. Currently on the Summit doning the repositioning from the Miami to New Jersey (with stops in Aruba and San Juan). The Summit can hold 2650. There are 352 passengers on board. This is one cruise where no one has to worry about social distancing. At peak hours there might be 30 people in the buffet (of which only 25% is even open). You can get a seat at the Martini Bar anytime you want. A few nights we the the ONLY two people in the Cellar Masters bar at 7:00pm! The crew outnumber passengers by almost 3 to 1 and one of them is ALWAYS immediately available asking what they can get for you or how they can help you. If you go to the show (only one per night) the waiter actually follows you to your seat to ask for your drink order. We are back on the Summit in September so I have been asking about future cruise dates and capacity. I was told the next 3-4 cruises have about 1700-1800 passengers. Since people are still cancelling last minute I would not expect more than that number for your June cruise.
  14. Can anyone confirm that the OBC slot process has RECENTLY worked on the Summit.
  15. Just received my test kits ordered last Thursday. The expiration date is 1/23/2023.
