  1. They also sell them on the ship. I may buy one there depending on cost, just to try it out, but I prefer to support the local small businesses. I saw another rum cake shop in a YouTube video that was actually on the way to/from the beach.
  2. Thanks for this information. Now I know I will be able to carry on and off my personal-sized cooler that I usually just pack in my luggage. I didn't see any size restrictions on backpacks though. Thanks! I don't know why I didn't think to check this myself. And now I know that extension cords and outlet extenders are actually permitted, despite others having theirs confiscated.
  3. I do not need a bottle opener. I would like to bring a backpack cooler. This particular one has a bottle opener attached, and I wanted to know if it was allowed because of said bottle opener, or if it wouldn't matter.
  4. Are these backpacks allowed on Carnival ships? I thought I read somewhere that they will confiscate a bottle opener. 5. I will be in Nassau in June with 2 other ships in port. We are the first ones there at 8am, followed by noon and 1:30. I think it's safe to say the beach will not be that busy until after lunch?? I am looking for the easiest way to hit the rum cake factory and the beach. Right now I am thinking we can catch a cab from the beach when we are ready to leave and go to the rum cake factory. Can I get the driver to wait for us? Not sure if that's standard to ask. I know after being at the beach all morning and in the sun that I will be too tired to walk all that way and then back to the ship. I think we may be okay to walk from the Factory back to the pier if we can't get a taxi to wait for us. Any other ideas? It doesn't look like there's a bus that goes between those locations. Would the rum cakes get compromised if we went to the Factory first and then walked to the beach? I know they are sealed airtight, I've purchased before, but I wasn't sure with the heat.
  6. I have seen a lot of Facebook posts about motion sickness on this ship recently. I think one was even from your sailing. Someone commented something about the gulf stream at this time of year or something, so that may have been another contributing factor.
  7. Agree on the pina coladas! The first time I tried one was on a 3rd party excursion that stopped at the Distillery. It was very good, but if I remember correctly, it was also very expensive. How much $$ do these run now?
  8. Does anyone have any info on this bar? I read about it only briefly, and I can't seem to find where it is. All I know is that it is supposedly on the island. Anyone know how to get there once you get off the tender boat?
  9. Is the path easy to find from the bus stop? I am looking to do this as well.
  10. Have you done this recently? We did it in 2019 when the Hilton was still open and loved it. I am a little weary now that the hotel is closed. Are the restroom facilities the same? How about the food and drink options? We enjoyed being able to go back and forth from the pool to beach with little walk, and that the beach was not crowded at all.
  11. The free beach is Junkanoo Beach, about 1/2 mile or so from the port and easily walkable (from what I've read). I have never been there, but that's our plan when we sail in June. I have also heard the pirate museum is really good. We have pretty much done everything else in Nassau that I could do with children.
  12. I saw on the website it is one hour. Is that in addition to the instructions/safety speech mentioned by others? There is an option to purchase this through the cruiselines, but it says it's 2 hours.
  13. I know this thread is really old, but was this ever answered anywhere? I'm cruising in 66 days.
  14. I have heard this about iphones from recent cruisers. I'm going to try it with my daughters in June.
  15. This! Pick and choose the items you want! I'm not much of a bfast person, so I like to grab a few different things.
  16. Following for the southern route responses .......
  17. A lot of people recommend the Holiday Inn Express NE, it's just a mile or so from the port. I haven't stayed there, so I can't comment on it.
  18. I second Metro Diner and Maple St Biscuit! There is also a Denny's on the same road as the airport.
  19. A benefit to living in Florida. Just stay on the ship until they make you leave, lol. I've never actually done that though bc I am ALWAYS in a rush! The one time I sailed from a port 35 mins from my home, I was just in a hurry to get home safe bc I was sooo hungover 😞 The next cruise after that I packed our bags before dinner and went to bed early, lol. But we are finally sailing out of JAX again in June, and I plan to just linger around until the crowds die down.
  20. My sister and brother-in-law still cruise with their grown sons (in their mid-30's), but on the mouse-line. My younger nephew orders buttered noodles in the MDR every night. In NOW time as a grown adult.
  21. When I cruised with my sister a few years ago, she flew in from NY to FLL, and we were cruising out of Miami. I am in FL, so I drove. She was able to get a shuttle from FLL to our hotel. It was a La Quinta, and I think this was it: https://www.wyndhamhotels.com/laquinta/fort-lauderdale-florida/la-quinta-inn-ft-lauderdale-northeast/overview?CID=LC:LQ::GGL:RIO:National:64806&iata=00093796 I then drove us to PortMiami and parked my car at the pier. I remember it was a huge ordeal trying to find a flight and hotel at decent rate, and none of what was found was in Miami and/or had a shuttle. We had the benefit of me driving in and being able to drive to the port. A one-way rental from FLL to PortMiami may be an option? Might be cheaper than Uber or Lyft.
  22. I've never been on any of those ships 😞 It was one of the things I was most looking forward to on Magic in June of 2020...then in August of 2020 ... and I am still waiting for my moment, lol.
  23. I never found pasta on any Carnival cruise I've been on, other than mac n cheese on the kids MDR menu (which is AMAZING, and I always order for myself lol). It's been my only food complaint bc I love pasta! Most kids don't eat vegetables, and the ones they do, are not available. I sometimes struggle to find veggies that I like because the ones offered are always a little too fancy for my palate. My picky 11-year old will eat french fries and bread n butter all day long if I let her, but I won't. I didn't know they had grilled cheese in the deli; that is promising! It didn't sound like the OP's kids went hungry, just that they were disappointed and maybe had the munchies a few times with nothing they wanted.
  24. You have to watch your folio like a hawk! One time I maxed out on my Cheers, but didn't realize until I tried to get a drink at midnight and the bartender let me know I already had 15. So I asked for a diet coke instead. The next day I was denied drink #15 bc I was told that I was already at #15 bc they had counted the diet coke from midnight-ish. First, Cheers resets at 6am, so even if it was rung up as alcohol, I only had 14 drinks after 6am. And second, it was soda, and not sure how they could have messed that up and rung it up as alcohol when they clearly said I couldn't have it. This was before I realized I could track my drinks in the app. So fast forward to my next cruise, and I was on the lookout! We go to brunch in the MDR, and I order a beer. They brought me a mimosa, which I don't like, so I sent it back and asked for my beer. They bring me a beer. Cool. I check my folio and I was charged for 2 alcoholic drinks! I ordered another beer, and i told them they charged me for 2 drinks for one beer. They said they would fix it. I checked my folio again and I was up to 4 drinks! For 2 beers. So I waited until after Brunch and went to customer service to fix it. The line was long af, so I waited until later. FTTF would have been nice in this case. I finally get around to getting to customer/guest services to explain what happened, and that I was just trying to make sure there were no mix-ups like my last cruise. They took off the 2 extra drinks, thank goodness. Moral of the story is you always have to check your folio. We shouldn't have to check it so often, but unfortunately it's necessary.
