  1. Good afternoon everyone . For those who just drop in - there are no magic tricks to weight control. It is pure and simple - honesty with yourself. I put on weight due to stress and an addiction to sugar. It takes discipline and it helps to have support. Everyone develops habits to help reach their goals. Me I’m still struggling with candy… I can’t skip the aisle. I may have to start ordering online and picking up groceries. I can’t stick to eating plan. Jazzpers feeling old and doesn’t want to do our long walks anymore. Haven’t weighed.
  2. Glad it’s just the both of you. My eating is obviously out of control. I’m up 5 lbs. I can’t get back in the mind set . It’s embarrassing. Not sure how I’m going to snap out of this but I will. Think I’ll start walking 3 times a day. Once without Jazzper so I can try and walk faster and do more arm movements. It’s a thought.
  3. Good morning. It’s already the middle of the month. It’s 43 degrees this morning. Will be last week of cold weather then the heat is on for Houston. Didn’t weigh this morning will weigh tomorrow. I’m sure I’m still stuck . Continue my walking . I’m starting to get excited about May cruise.
  4. I’m up o.4. It’s going to be a struggle. Not stressing it’s not the end of the world. continuing yard work almost done. Lawn greening up nicely. I’m enjoying my yard for the first time in years. Doing what I want. Everyone have a good weekend
  5. Yay Belle. Nice win. Thanks for getting us started this week. I also didn’t weigh today - was back up yesterday. I seem to be frozen at this wt. at least I’m keeping it in control.
  6. Same old routine here. Morning and pm walks. Yard work - only what I want to do to stay busy. Realized I needed to power wash a little further on sidewalk - new young couple aren’t interested in caring for yard ( and the front is small would only take an hour every 2 weeks. It was at least 6 months since they did anything) Jan we all have those days. I’ve never been to Bermuda. Sailing out of Galveston is mainly the western Carribean . There is a new itinerary going as far asTurks and Caicos . It’s a longer trip will do later. Jo how are you. I hope you’re feeling better.
  7. Had taxes done yesterday. Use Jackson Hewitt. Office understaff so took longer to get takes done being interrupted by phone calls and walk in — all of this was irritating - so thus binge on candy which was picked up on way home. Oh well the life of this sugar addict - any excuse used.
  8. Nice to hear from you Jo. I’m ready for bed but there is a thunderstorm heading my way so staying up to keep do calm
  9. Good morning Belle. I will definitely keep this going - I need the support to stay on track. Nothing new here. Trying to do more yard work while the weather is nice. Finally the scales have started moving. It helps that my son is out of town. I’m down 2.6 lbs only 7.3 to get to goal for May cruise. For those just visiting this site welcome. Post a comment and say hi. We don’t have any magic solutions but provide lots of encouragement.
  10. Doing better with eating. Jim returns Thursday and will let him know that any snacks left in the kitchen will be tossed. The girls will leave on Monday. We’ve done the diner, fundraising and another person will work on the collage of owners with their dogs. I hate computers. On phone with bank with help deleting a payee from app. Which then triggered a notification from lifelock — couldn’t find the notification on their website ……etc ended up having a panic attack. Bottom line lots of drama for nothing. yay my sons stepsister is leaving her car at my house for 3 weeks in Portugal. Soo happy to help. I’m less than 30 min from airport. She lives about 3 hours away.
  11. Belle thanks for starting off the week. My mood has been up and down. Farewell dinner for dear dog park friends who feel like family. Stressful arranging - invite dog park friends , getting appropriate going away card - getting signatures - fund raise (they’re moving to CA , one is on disability and the other works at Kroger. Dinner was tonight - it was awesome - ( lots of tears) 12 total for dinner - raised $500 which to me is amazing the generosity of everyone. I’m not usually the coordinator so it stressed me a lot because I over think everything. Im up .5. Pounds. My son is gone for a week. He’s been bringing in snacks. Will have to get him to stop. weather is warm here we’ve already hit 80 which is usually not until April. Afraid to think of what it will be this summer.
  12. I seem to be in a better mood. Not craving sweets as much. Weather is crazy in the 30’s and 40’s over the weekend now 77 to hit 80 this afternoon. I’ve been organizing farewell dinner and fundraising ( they are moving to California , driving a haul with trailer - thought a Visa card would be the best gift) for the women who took care of Jazzper when I traveled. still walking 2-3 miles with Jazzper 2x day. I learned something new this weekend. Jazzper even being neutered can joy the company of a female! - luckily her owners were only ones at the park and twere young ladies who didn’t freak out. That’s as exciting as my life gets😹.
  13. Morning Belle. Love this site. Keeps me accountable — if you weren’t here heaven know where my weight would be. This prevents lg wt gain due to weighing a minimum of weekly. I have allergies (what guardian angel decided it would fun to stick me with allergies in my 70s?) luckily Claritin D works well. I ve been working on my lawn - dethatching (raking up dead grass which took 3 weeks - raked up 8 giant bags of grass and leaves (raking and using leaf blower usually around 1-2 hours a day. Then spread gypsum and fertilizer. ). Next is to level flower bed and replace with grass. I’ve been good this week. My weight can vary up to 3lbs daily up and down- I’m down 1/2 lb since Getting home from cruise. Only 9.5 lbs to lose before May cruise - confident I can do it.
  14. Back from cruise yesterday. Had a good time. Granddaughter and family friend both had an amazing trip. Both my son and I seemed to be allergic to the boat - scratchy throats and cough . Still battling with it since home — never had allergies until this year and it sucks. Belle great with weight. WOW with the wins. I prefer slots gamble enough to get cruise offers but usually just match the onboard credit and usually about an hour a day. Jan your doing great. I’ve decided to act like I’m just starting a diet. I’m up 10lbs from where I was a year ago. So would like to get it off before my May cruise. It’s harder with having my son here - he brings in the English muffins and bread. This is definitely a life long challenge - thanks to this site it’s just 10 lbs
  15. I hope everyone is either cruising or safe , warm and dry. It has been unusually wet in Houston - last week 6 inches of rain—so far this week 7 inches. I’m tired of grey days. I haven’t weighed, working on eating behaviors - may have to switch to grocery pick up to stop impulse sweet purchases. Have a western Caribbean cruise leaving Sunday. Excited to get out of town. My dog sitters are moving to CA in March. My options for another dog sitter is slim to nonexistent. They are some incompatibility with their dogs. The one option to just adds a stress to the owner- she has a bed bound son at home who is alert but demanding. Last fall she had 3 dogs over 15 years old in her home - as of today they have all crossed the rainbow bridge. Kenneling is NOT an option. I can take Feb cruise, and May cruise which is solo and my son will watch Jazzper. I have cancelled my Alaskan cruise in July. Jazzper is 15 so plan on taking road trips with him. I feel better making these choices.
  16. Ncovert welcome sounds like you’re doing great. You have reachable goals which will keep you motivated. I’m continuing to struggle. I think I’m depressed - (1)gloomy grey cold wet weather, (2) have developed allergies . (3) dog sitters moving to CA in March— will switch from cruising to road trips with Jazzper . as far as eating goes. I’m going to have to switch to curb side pick up groceries. I can’t resist sweets and snack foods. We will see.
  17. WOW WHERE DID JANUARY GO. My weight is Same. Continue to struggle with sweets. Currently have a cold. Trying to get back on track . Have 8-10 to lose. Weather is chilly in 30s . Tuesday rain storm no damage in my area got 6 inches on rain in 2 hours. welcome Wolf, MTNest and Break.
  18. Belle I don’t know how you sail so long - you must be a fish. Break welcome I joined this group at 216 had already lost 10 lbs. set small goals, luckily I’m able to walk so have been walking 2x day with dog. Lowest weight achieved has been 123. im still struggling with sweets - went shopping and store didn’t carry half of advertised specials. Soo I bought peppermint ice cream (immediately ate 2 bowls -so quickly put the rest of container in the sink and filled it with water). Also bought discounted package of bakery cookies ate three - before the ice cream, so when drowning the ice cream I threw in the cookies. This is the life of a sugar addict LOL. My goal is to get back to 123 - so have 7 lbs to go. Thanks to this site I’ve caught the issue early.
  19. Jan glad your the same. I think you will start to relax about cancer. You did everything and will be great.
  20. Good morning everyone. Weather is crazy in Houston. Daily highs are anywhere from 60- 80. I’m down 2.5 lbs. still snacking. I’m still walking 4-6 miles daily (2 walks at dog park) I usually drive a 2005 Honda. Bought a Subaru May 2021 I’ve walked more miles than I have driven the Subaru. starting a new activity routine. Normal routine was walk x2 rest of time spent playing games on I pad,. Now trying to do yard work 2 times a day. Also planning on walking the neighborhood retention ponds - walk up and down the sloped sides to use different muscles. Time will tell. hope everyone is having a great time cruising
  21. Still having problems with sweets. Need to change habits. Decided to try getting off couch and I pad every 2 hour and clean something, or do yard work. Haven’t stuck with daily weighing. Also trying to drink more water… time will tell
  22. Belle glad your having a good time. I don’t think I could cruise that long after a week I’m ready to get home.. As far as investments - I don’t look at them very much maybe 2x year. I know they will rebound . Now the the embarrassing news. I started last year at 123lbs ( which never dropped even after tummy tucks) My range is 123-128. Today I’m at 131.8. So the plan is to weigh every day. Stop the sweets. Count calories. Drink more water. Just reminder it’s a forever journey.
  23. Welcome back Belle. I hope you had a great cruise, won lots, didn’t gain, had fun. I’ll weigh tomorrow. Forgot this morning……. Need to start weighing daily - snacking is out of control. Still walking 2xday. Made mistake of looking at investments - dropped about 40% total value and my 401 distribution will be half of last years. Luckily only outstanding bill is car payment and only have 13 left. I will survive.
  24. Happy new year everyone. Jo wow 1.8 that’s the most you’ve had in a week since I signed on over 2 years ago. My dads family seems most had some form of dementia except his mom who died in her 40’s from breast cancer. He was only 25 when she died — I was thankful he had Alzheimer’s by the time I had breast cancer at age 41 - it would have broken his heart. spent last night at hotel to get away from fireworks will do the same tonight thinking there are bound to be more tonight since tomorrow is a holiday. I've ended the year at 128 which is the high end of my range. Lowest was 123 which I maintained for months — interesting was had 2 tummy tucks with skin removal and never lost an ounce. I’m going to work on getting back on track — I can’t relax being afraid I’ll put it back on — thank goodness for this site it keeps me delegent.
  25. I have been on 2 ACL cruise. The first was the pride on Columbia river. That was in 2019 - I was extremely impressed on the crews assistance with any mobility issue. Even saw them carrying someone in their wheelchair. That was a major reason I choose to cruise again — at that time I was 100 lbs overweight and couldn’t make it up a flight of stairs. Fast forward 3 years when finally able to cruise again because of Covid delays. Took a 10 day cruise out of Boston. It was a nightmare for mobility issues. It was severely under staffed. The excursions were all buses ride and NO ACL Staff accompanied us - we were on own getting on and of buses. Even just getting off the ship to explore the port- sometimes there was no one at the exit - no one kept log of people getting on or off ship.
