Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. We have a summer cruise with Uniworld meaning we will fly into and out of FRA. We are arriving a day early (late afternoon) and will stay at one of the airport hotels the evening before embarkation. We hope to be able to arrange to meet the transfer service at the airport on embarkation day by meeting up with them at the transfer meeting point. Has anyone done this in the past? Also, if you have used the Uniworld transfer at FRA, where did you meet the agent?
  2. Does anyone have recent experience with embarking or disembarking in Luxembourg with Amawaterways? Specifically, I am trying to figure out where the dock is so I can plan accordingly for a Luxembourg embarkation next year. Thanks
  3. Thanks all. Your comments have certainly helped me to understand the process. I expect what we will experience is a bus ride from Madrid to Salamanca with a "rest" stop on the way and then a couple of guide tour hours in Salamanca followed by a bus ride from Salamanca to the Vega De Terron cruise ship dock (again interim someone that had experienced this event with AMA.upted by a "rest" stop. Interestingly, the Ama literature shows B,L,D (meals) for that day but does not elaborate on the "L". This is one reason I was seeking comment from anyone who had recent AMA experience. If "L" is "on your own during free-time" i'd like to know in advance.
  4. We are on this cruise beginning August 8. We are also doing the Madrid pre-cruise, wherein my question lies. On the day of our cruise embarkation, we travel by bus from Madrid to Vega Terron with a stop in Salamanca. The description of this day calls for 5 1/2 hours of bus ride. Has anyone on this board experienced this aspect of the extended cruise? If so, how long were the bus ride segments, and how long were you in Salamanca?
  5. We were on this cruise in September. No covid tests were ever conducted, nor were vaccination documents asked for.
  6. Sorry, I am actually inquiring about the 400 staterooms. Thanks
  7. Thanks for the update. I have been following a ship on the upper Rhine that is on an itinerary we plan to enjoy in late September. On 3 different ship spotting websites that ship showed as stationary in Boppard since Friday. I suspected it was not a lost signal matter. I guess your report, coupled with one spotting site's message that last ship communication contact was this afternoon confirms the ship is, in fact, idle in Boppard. Ship was supposed to be in Frankfurt today and Strasbourg tomorrow.
  8. Anyone on the upper Rhine at the moment? Looking at ship spotting websites, it appears no one is sailing the Rhine Gorge section. I am following the Uniworld River Queen which seems stuck in Boppard. Anyone following this board that is on the Uniworld Rhein-Moselle that is supposed to embark tomorrow from Strasbourg? What are you hearing from Uniworld?
  9. ninaks, Am I correct that your cruise direction was Strasbourg to Frankfurt? If so, can you describe the Speyer to Cochem leg? I am wondering what time of the day you departed Speyer and approx. time of day you passed through the Rhine Gorge and what time you arrived in Cochem. Thanks
  10. gnome12 - Thank you, very insightful and informative.
  11. Thanks gnome12 - We are trying to decide on the Danube deck or Main deck for a cruise in Sept. 2022. Cabins available on Danube deck and Main deck. If I understand your response, the Danube deck is a "partial" level higher than the Main deck and the Main deck is a "partial" level higher than the Moselle deck. We have taken 4 previous cruises on Uniworld, the first in 2015 on the River Ambassador ( now one of the "U" ships) very small French Balcony stateroom - but adequate. 88 passengers Prague (Nuremberg) to Basel. Best one of the four. Subsequent cruises were on SS ships - not the same. 2019 Romania to Nuremberg a succession of cancelled excursions and skipped ports. Monitoring CC posts and hoping Uniworld has their act together now. Did an AMAMagna trip with a group of friends. Ship too big and too many passengers. Never again.
  12. PHD-iva, this way off topic, but can you describe the deck levels on the River Queen? I understand the Rhine Deck is the top (indoor) deck of the ship, but am confused as to the alignment of the Danube, Main and Moselle decks. Are the room 301-321 (Danube deck) on the same level as rooms 202-218 (Main deck)? OR, are rooms 202-218 on the same level as rooms 102-108 (Moselle deck)? OR is none of this correct, meaning Danube, Main and Moselle decks are somehow "staggered"? I hope my question is understandable.
