I lived in Bloomfield Township, I believe it is now gone. Went to school in Birmingham.
I went to Groves. Met a guy on the World Cruise that graduated from Seaholm. The world is small sometimes.

Garry, I only see this blog on Cruise Critic. Is there any way to subscribe to keep up with your future travels?
Unfortunately, there isn't an easy way. That's one downside with blogspot blogs. I wish I had a better answer for you other than just going to kolbsontheroad.blogspot.com
Sorry 😞

But 4 Cruise Directors? We've only done a sector of a World Cruise, but the CD was on for the whole trip, and I'd just presumed that would always be the case. Like it was 'Their' World cruise. Did it change the feel of what was happening, or would no-one really notice?
Loving your continued daily updates!
For the actual worlf cruise, we had three and another starts today, but this is a different cruise. Aaron was supposed to do most of it and then Katy would finish it, but Aaron was pulled early to open another ship and one of his assistants, Damian, filled the roll for about six weeks until Katy could join.
And yes, the feel changed, but that wasn't a bad thing.

Wow, that seems like a lot of staff turnover in just a few months. Do you know whether most of them moved on to other Viking ships, or what?
The ice bar looks fun. Can’t imagine working there, though. Brrrrr!
Most contracts are 4-6 months according to the staff, and since they all don't start at the same time, that's pretty normal. There was tons of turnover all through the ship. Most take 1-3 months off and then start a new contract. All we spoke to were coming back to Viking.

Happy to hear that Arlona has tested negative. Did the Viking Star medical staff treated her with antiviral medication (like Paxlovid) when she was in quarantine?
Viking only treated her with over the counter meds like Tylenol, cough drops, and cough syrup.

I am surprised that you are entering Stockholm so early. Going through the Stockholm archipelago was a highlight of our last Baltic cruise. So many beautiful islands with lots of incredible homes. The who’s who of Sweden all seem to have homes out there.
I may be up early, if I ever get to bed... 🙂

Really pleased for you that Arlona will be released soon and I love her flags!
However as a Scot, I hope you don’t mind if I point out that she has (correctly) painted the Union Jack and not the flag of England - you have of course visited us on your cruise but the country is the United Kingdom
Doh! Sorry about that - I corrected that! Thanks for the correction!

Asked my doctor about this, and he indicated that you may not show positive on test immediately after exposure, possibly not until symptoms develop.
All I can tell you is that Viking has completely stopped spread on the ship. If people were contagious before Viking identified them, more cases would show up 3-4 days later and so on, but that has not happened. And, that has been true for the entirety of the 150 continuous days I have been on the ship. I'm not disagreeing with your doctor, but evidence speaks volumes. All the cases currently active on the ship showed up 3-4 days after embarkation in Bergen where they likely were exposed during their air travel. Nothing after that.

You’re making lemonade out of lemons! It’s great Arlona has a balcony and get fresh air and you can “see” her.
Since everyone on Viking Ocean ships has a balcony, that isn't a big deal. But, being able to see her in person, even from three floors down, was great. We docked on starboard side today, and are at sea tomorrow, so no joy there.

But with all that you still run the risk on Viking of being quarantined for most of your cruise or put ashore in a port not of your choosing. Not a fun cruise imho.
Quarantine, yes. Put ashore, no. That's only if you choose that option. Fun is a personal choice. If you don't like the options, you're free to not come. We choose to continue living our lives. It is unfortunate that Arlona got it, thanks to new passengers that came on board, but we'll deal with it and adjust accordingly. Viking has been outstanding throughout.

Katy has a month off before her next contract. And yes, Bruce is from MI and now Jacksonville, Fl. We haven't heard him on the piano, so I can't comment there.
