  1. My experience has been with both of the mentioned options. We have purchase transfers in advance using the transfer form, 30 days before flying. https://docs.vikingcruises.com/legacy-assets/PDF/transfer_request_form_20130701.pdf We have also purchased transfers for disembarkation by filling out the form left in our stateroom, and paying through the shipboard account.
  2. I would call Viking( or have your TA do it,) I bet they will give you at least $200 future cruise credit. That was our experience when one port was cancelled recently. Our excursion money was refunded as we paid with card.
  3. For our July 2023 trip, we were refunded the Viking Air plus fees in addition to the flight costs.
  4. We have cancelled Viking Air before the 120 day date but after full payment. It was Refunded to our bank, the original method of payment was E Check. I’m not sure of cancellations 75 days prior to ticketing… call the specific Viking Air number to confirm. I wouldn’t risk an incorrect answer from the general guest service line. Get it in writing.
  5. It’s probably Spam. I don’t trust the caller ID I see anymore. Typically Viking will email if there are issues or changes to your booking. I’d call the number on your invoice if you feel that there could be a problem.
  6. Yes, they can be opened by the steward when the ship is not in motion if I recall. and…. We had the same two cabins with our friends last year! Our favorites!
  7. From my experience, once I book a flight via Viking Air Plus, I get an email confirmation with the 6 letter/number airline confirmation code. We have always used Air Plus when booking with Viking. For our April2024 cruise, I had air reserved but not ticketed 8 months in advance of the cruise. It was ticketed by December at my request. You can call Air Plus with questions before deciding if it’s worth paying the extra fee.
  8. I have sometimes seen our itinerary early, but I don’t worry about what it says in MVJ. I simply use the confirmation code to log in to the actual airline website and confirm my booking there. I’ve often been able to upgrade seats for a fee,( I’m a sky miles member on Delta.) Some airlines don’t allow seat changes until ticketing.
  9. Redtravel, I hope you have notified Viking Guest services about the broken glass. I hope you continue to enjoy your cruise.
  10. Yes, an early final payment date is the norm with Viking. Have a look at this thread.
  11. On Saturn last May, we requested apple juice from room service. I’ve even gotten a box of milk for my minibar. DV cabin. Viking tries to fill your requests..love the service!
  12. On our last cruise, our friends did not receive tags when we did. They chatted with Viking online and got them within a few days. Enjoy your cruise… one of my favorites!
  13. The address of the ship will be in your final E- documents, sent by email a few weeks prior to sailing. I believe the taxi driver will know how to get to the Piraeus port terminal…it is very large. From our experience last year, upon arrival at the port, Viking representatives will guide you to check in and security. Enjoy Athens and your cruise.
  14. We visited Giverney and Monet’s Garden recently on a Viking river cruise. The bus parking was quite a way from the actual garden. We walked through the village of Giverney, and then stood in line for entry, with a crowd. Once in the garden, we could walk at our own pace. Our guide took us through the house with some narrow stairways, this part was optional. Then we were guided to the Water Garden, which was accessed by an underground tunnel with stairs. There was a circular path around the water, and then we had free time for about 45 minutes. It’s an amazing place, I hope you and mom can visit it.
  15. We have done several independent hotel extensions. We have always been able to store luggage at the hotel prior to check in so we could start exploring. Ask your hotel about that.
  16. Viking will give you a form a few days prior to disembarkation. You will provide your flight time, and you can request Viking transportation to the airport. (If you used Viking Air, they already have that information.) The day prior to the cruise ending, all cabins will receive a list of disembarkation times, along with color coded luggage tags and details about leaving the ship. Bags are usually collected the night before, by 10pm. Folks gather in the Atrium area and await their tag color and number to be called, then it is easy to leave through security. Viking seems to get you off the ship 3-4 hours prior to your flight. Your bags will be in the terminal area unless you elected to carry them yourself. If you are not using Viking scheduled transportation, you can leave anytime.
  17. Here’s a link to a long discussion about the drink package. We’ve never purchased it,(non drinkers). I know our friend was not allowed to use it for drinks other than for himself. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/3011045-beverage-package/
  18. We used Saga Travel out of Akeureyri. Our tour was similar to Natural Treasures and much cheaper than Viking.
  19. We transferred from our Bergen hotel with Viking, leaving at 7am for a 10:40am flight. Viking likes to get guests to the airport 2.5-3 hours before the flight.
  20. We flew home from Bergen in May. Viking transported us to the airport at 7am for our 1030am departure. If you don’t have Viking Air, you can request a Viking transfer onboard for a fee. Bergen airport is easy to navigate.
  21. Ask for an invoice, you can do it on MVJ by clicking the three bars at top, go to account, then select send invoice ( it will be a drop down) . If you use a TA, they can make the request, or call Viking and ask. The transfer information will be on page 4, with the details of the itinerary. I believe I also got an email after I emailed the transfer request form.
  22. I agree with GooseBear above. Last year on our Iceland cruise, the next stop for the ship was NYC. Our room steward preferred USD. I check the route of the ship and tip accordingly.
  23. There are about 150 cabins that book before DV category. That leaves over 272 cabins booking when excursions open for DV, with the V category going last. As you can see, plenty of excursions will be left for you to choose from. Use the tips in the previous post, and good luck!
  24. I’ve never seen that offered on Viking. Typically it takes special certification and licensing for that.
  25. We only choose decks 3 or 4 midship for motion concerns, DV6 or DV4. We love a cabin near the forward elevators and stairs on deck 3, quick access to the Theater and workout space. We also like being near the laundry room. Viking ships are small and easy to navigate.
