Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Looking for Harters or anyone else to chime in. Harters, I asked last year and you gave me a stellar recommendation for fish & chips in London- Masters Superfish was exactly what I was looking for. Again, I thank you! In August I will be spending a few days in Dover before cruise, looking for some good English food, don’t need anything fancy, I much prefer casual, non touristy little local joints. Also any tips for finding some live music in the evenings (preferably rock or jazz but any live music is good music in my opinion) Thank you!
  2. I did Alaska solo almost 2 years ago and had an amazing time. Take a hike up to Reid Falls in Skagway, it’s beautiful. Ride the tram up Mt Robert’s in Juneau, you can even hike farther up from there if that’s your thing. Lunch Creek Trail in Ketchikan. The best fish tacos ever from Deckhand Dave’s truck in Juneau. The only paid excursion I booked was canceled due to such heavy fog, float plane up to Taku Lodge. I did all days on my own and had a blast!
  3. I’ve done the White Pass train round trip and I thought the return ride was even more awesome than the ride up! I would highly recommend the train back. I haven’t done the bus so have no insight on that.
  4. Thank you Harters for the recommendation on Masters Superfish! We dined there during our stay in London. Cod for my grandson, haddock for me. Absolutely delicious! I also loved the mushy peas, however my grandson did not enjoy them as much as I did, his loss I say. Again, thank you so much!
  5. So excited for my first visit to your UK! Staying in hotel near Victoria Coach Station night before cruise, looking for the best/most authentic fish & chips between there and London Eye where we'll board double decker bus for evening tour. We plan on walking, so something along that route would be great. A pub atmosphere would please my 22 year old grandson, but just a food shop would be fine too. I've found a few online but thought I could get a better recommendation from a local. Thank you!
  6. Been following your adventurous journey! Minnesota here, will also be on September 10 Dover to Rome. I thought I was going to enjoy another solo cruise but lol looks like my 22 year old grandson will be accompanying me. Something to the effect of making sure grandma doesn't run astray with any wild Spainiards or such...🀣
  7. I'm following as well. Port stop in Lisbon in September. Thinking about a tuk tuk for at least part of the day as I'm sure my ol' feet will welcome some time off! There is one I'm looking at on Viator's site - a tuk tuk street art tour, I've found only good reviews on it so far...
  8. I will agree with all, amazing review and a pleasure to "join" your journey. I started following as I will be on the Pride sailing September 10. It was nice to get a feel for the Pride (which I haven't been on yet) and have a peek at a couple ports where I'll be spending my day. Will be traveling with my 22 year old grandson, and am glad we just use carry on backpacks - I was biting my nails throughout your luggage "adventure"! Thanks again for sharing!
  9. 5 for weeks me 4-17-23. In person appt, named change, expired, issued over 15 years ago 4-19-23. Received in PA office 5-19-23. Status on line showed accepted 5-22-23. Was in my mailbox Seems thru online research I was lucky to get it sent to Locator 69 (NH office), all I've read sounds like this the fastest processing office. I did pay the $60 for expedited processing but no expedited mailing.
  10. I have an enhanced license (Minnesota). On closed loop Alaskan cruise last August, Carnival wanted birth certificate as well (luckily I had it with) . Again on Carnival this January, closed loop Caribbean (Grand Cayman & Jamaica) only looked at license, didn't ask for birth certificate. Guess it depends who's checking you in on embarkment day!
  11. Thank you all for your responses, much appreciated. I was thinking it would probably be more of an older crowd for the most part. Even as a child, this grandson has been more comfortable with adults & can and will talk up a storm to anyone. I know I will be quite low key in evenings as will be so port intensive. We plan on doing alot of exploring. I'm no "wonder woman" physically but am a walker. Art, music and culture is what we both love. I'm a pretty laid back traveler, normally solo and usually just a back pack and I'm good to go but traveling with young adult age grandkids one-on-one is so fulfilling & so exciting. Lol my 11 year old granddaughter already has "our trip" planned for when she turns 17 πŸ™‚
  12. I'm booked on The Pride Sept. 10, 2023 sailing, Dover to Rome, 9 days. Originally booked solo as that's how I normally travel. Have cruised before but this is first European cruise for me. My 23 year old grandson recently said he'd love to go with, so last night I added him to my booking. How awesome that he wants to travel with me! My question is I'm wondering the age range on this type of cruise, any chance there will be many others is his age group? Not that it's a care or concern but just curious. I took my 17 year old grandson on a 5 day Caribbean in January and we had a blast!
  13. I just wanted to recommend SSJ Tours in Ocho Rios to everyone. I hired them for my grandson and myself last week. We are more "off the beaten path" type travelers and wanted more of a local day rather than a typical touristy excursion. Our driver was Janet and she gave us the perfect day of what we were looking for, I couldn't ask for a better local experience. SSJ does both set tours and also have a customizable option which is what we chose. Again, I highly recommend them for your time in Ocho Rios!
  14. I have sailed before, just never out of Port of Miami. Will board Sunrise on January 23, printed out boarding passes today but can't seem to find out which terminal. All I could find online is that Carnival uses D,E and F, but nothing specific to which ship is at which terminal. Thank you!
  15. I agree with Steven, on my last trip (I travel solo) I met many great people from all over in the smoking area, a group of 6 of us had so much fun that we are planning on a cruise together this summer!
