  1. Check out this street view of the Holiday Inn just a walk away from the Ship.

Pan left to see both tower of the hotel. Pretty handy but it is the Holiday Inn :) Make sure you get the right Holiday Inn when /if you book.

  2. All the fog up there must be getting to you. You Gave great advice two posts ago :)

Now I don't want to go to San Diego on HAL nor Heathrow on BA. :D

I have just learned that MOST of the time it will all work out and their ain't much you can do to stop it except ask for advice and then, take what you think sounds like GOOD advice.

  3. Do you recommend holding your luggage to the pier or letting them take care of it for you ? I am just worried I will never see my luggage again and it won't make it to the ship

Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app

I think that this would have been my concern many years ago too.

    BUT

I have learned to relax a bit and although we all have read horror stories about airplane travel and the odd lost bags at the pier I havd overcome most my fears. :)

The service at the Pan and from across the road at the waterfront is good. RElax and enjoy it if you stay there.

  4. how many folks in this thread I actually know and I met them all first on a roll call. :);):D:o:eek:

We of a certain group are guilty of too much chat on more than a few occasions. We even take up loading time with flashing pins. Some of us like big long cruise history lists. Sorry.

But the information that some of our group has passed along, the organizing of tours and websites etc. directly related to crusin' (in between weather and grandkids) is just remarkable.

I think I can understand some being overwhelmed by us when we hit a Roll Call but just go along and learn ..or skip us.

It's easy if you've got your settings to view everything. Big flasher = skip. But you might miss a lot.

  5. I am almost ready to book 3 nights at the Pan Pacific hotel in Vancouver. Sounds perfect for convience to ship and places to walk to. I'm finding lowest quotes of $713 with tax. Is that a good deal and is the hotel as nice as it looks?

Are there reasonable cheap eats places within walking distance?

Unfortunately that price with tax may just be a "Good" price.

    Great spot.

  6. Celebrity may just simplify everything even more by only counting the actual days at sea with Celebrity. This would automatically cull the number of Elites.:D

except for us long timers that sailed more than a few longer cruises and got only 1 measly point. :)

"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change.

The courage to change the things I can

And wisdom to know the difference".

    "Whatever will be, will be".

Yah but..... some of us just keep on dreaming the dream! lol

  7. Did you hear when she will be leaving the Celebrity fleet?

There are probably over 100,000 people booked on future sailings of the Century right now.

What a PR disaster if Celebrity cancels them:mad:

I personally have 117 days of future cruises booked on the Century right now:confused:

You did read that I said it was only a Bartender. I did not mean to set off a bunch of negative thinking. We got enough of that right now with the Millie. There was no other info about dates etc.

    It's just another rumour

  8. If you want a Meet & Greet that will be about the rate but there will be lots of limos at YVR and on a walk up basis a 6 pax limo will run you $55 plus tax and gratuity . Aerocar has this as a contracted flat rate with YVR.

    http://aerocar.ca/rates/flat-rates/

With Apologies to PD new rates are $66 to Canada place or most hotels for a 6 PAX limo at the airport. You may have trouble with luggage but an 8 PAX is only $89

Hey back from the Point after more than a month and my first post is for you. lol gotcha

  9. Thought I would share this gossip with you and the rest of the cruisers on this coastal - over coffee last night one of the regulars who has driven tour bus claims that the bus companies have been told by Port Metro Vancouver that there will be no cruise ships using Ballantyne Pier next year - that Canada Place will have ships 7 days a week - one possible reason is that the closest overpass to that pier is closed for a year for a major rebuild and widening to handle all the extra traffic to the port - this could be interesting if they are trying to squeeze a fourth ship into the berths at Canada Place.

    Cheers

    Dennis

Great rumour Dennis. I can't imagine what that closure will do to the daily commute. We use that route to downtime all the time

Everyone aboard here have a great Canada Day. TAke sometime somewhere to celebrate as you are able. We have a great country. That has never been more clear to me since we started to cruise around various Islands and countries and having seen how many other live.

    Have a good one.

    Bob

  10. I'd probably let price be the factor between these two - CCH is nearer Canada Place, and the bus to Stanley Park goes right past the door; but SP is a bit closer to Yaletown & Granville Island. Both have plenty of restaurants nearby.

NB: do factor into the price that Sutton Place does not have free wifi, though some package deals include it. $12.99 if you pay for it separately.

I concur ..but would lean a bit to the Coast due to it's closeness to the water and Stanley Park.

  11. Street food vendors-any favorites?

We've heard that Vancouver has great street food in the downtown area. Looking for recommendations.

    Thanks,

    Sharon

The very best. Not around on the weekends however BUT just blocks from Canada Place. See if SAM is working.

I loved the Oyster Burger..... BUT apparently the seafood putine is the best. Fish and Chips ..great too.

  12. I have 2 extremely opposite reviews of the Chateau Granville Hotel and area. Can I get some more feedback good or bad please. Not sure whether to roll the dice or pull the trigger. HELP PLEASE!!!!!!

    Since you asked.

I do not stay often in Vancouver BUT when I do I never stay in the Granville area..

I have stayed in more than a few of those Hotels that PD listed.

I consider myself a tourist (Vancouver is 100 ks from here) and pretty familiar with the good and bad area's of the city.

"There are a lot nicer places and areas to stay in downtown Vancouver."

I suggest this line from PD's posts says it all.

  13. a very informative thread.

Living on the Lowermainland of BC we treat Vancouver and Seattle as our getaway ports without the flying required to "Go Warm"

Just returned from a HAL 3 dayer to the fine Ports of Port Alberni and Seattle. That was I think our 4th short cruise out of either YVR & SEA. We have also gone to AK from both Ports.

I am amazed at the $$ consumption differences that have been given...but on reflection can now picture the reasons.

I would like to add into the thought process here two facts: one that there were very few US persons on our trip at all. Mostly Canadian and Asian. Although it was impossible for me to determine if the later were actually from off shore.

The second. When cruising in and around Vancouver Island in the Strait of Jaun de Fuca and into Puget sound in Washington State waters..... The casino's are not open. I'm sure this causes a profit issue that reflects on the number of similar cruises. Or just coastals for that matter.
