  1. I have been bringing my insulated bottle on my cruises for the past two years and never had a problem. I pack it in my checked luggage. Security has never stopped me when returning from a shore excursion.
  2. Horizon definitely has this Funfetti cake but available only on embarkation day during lunch hours in the Lido Marketplace. It is delicious and better than chocolate melting cake, in my opinion. I stop at the cake station first and get two pieces before I decide what I want for lunch and sometimes this cake is my lunch. I brought a piece back to my stateroom when I sailed in April and enjoyed it in my stateroom later in the evening . I'm sailing on the Sunrise in February, hope they have it available.
  3. The wonderful thing about these cakes is that they taste and look like a cake you would make in your home from scratch. I agree with SmoothFlying, it would be great if they offered these for dessert in the MDR. You can ask for a slice of every cake they have and see which one you like best. Other than my favorite Funfetti Cheesecake, honorable mentions were the Oreo Cream cake, Raspberry Champagne cake, Lemon Meringue cake (o.k. I'm drooling now). Some of the cakes are also Diet cakes but don't know if they were sugar free.
  4. Some of those layer cakes have been the best desserts I have eaten on Carnival, even better than the chocolate melting cake (don't judge me, just my opinion). I don't know if they offer them on every ship or not. Carnival had them on the Horizon. If you like cheesecake, try the Funfetti Cheesecake layer cake only available on embarkation day...it is tangy, creamy and delicious. The cake choices change every day so if you try one that you like, bring back some pieces to your stateroom to enjoy later in the evening because it will not be available again. I believe they had 5 or 6 different cakes every day. Some of the cakes I enjoyed were carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, red velvet cake, hummingbird cake, s'mores cake, peanut butter cake, etc. The cake station was the first stop I made before I decided what to eat for lunch, some days the cakes were my lunch, LOL
  5. Does anyone that is fully vaccinated plan on getting tested 3 days prior to your cruise as suggested by Carnival??
  6. I'm not surprised that the bartender didn't know how to make a Daiquiri because when we sailed on the Horizon in April, we sat at the aft bar next to the pool and ordered a Mojito. It was so tart, I asked the bartender if he forgot to put simple syrup in it and he told me that Mojitos are not made with simple syrup. I asked to speak to his supervisor and the supervisor also said that Mojitos are not made with simple syrup. I went to Guest Services and filed a complaint which probably went into the trash bin or they hit the "delete" button on their computer.
  7. I always cruise from my home State, Florida so no Dr. Pepper on ships departing from Florida ports. I will continue to bring some Dr. Pepper in my carry-on and my friend, Captain Morgan, may be accompanying me, shhhhhhhhh!!
  8. Count me in as a Pepsi lover and was happy when Carnival switched. However, I love me some Captain Morgan and Dr. Pepper but Carnival doesn't carry either one.
  9. The Imax Theater was awesome, I thought it would be a small area but it was huge. There was a nominal fee but I can't recall.....$3.50 or $4.50?? We sailed on Horizon last November and watched Dune. The Skyride and miniature golf is free. The Serenity area has a big bar and in addition to loungers, tables and chairs where people were playing cards and enjoying drinks. No one was in the hot tubs when we went up there but lots of people enjoying the sun beds.
  10. Unfortunately, no Captain Morgan available. Get creative and make other arrangements!!
  11. mz-s is correct, passengers staying in Suites and Platinum/Diamond passengers are allowed to drop off their luggage in their stateroom upon boarding. The Room Stewards are busy trying to get the rooms tuned around and all the stateroom doors are open to the hallway. I have been Diamond for many years and still get stopped by a Room Steward going to my stateroom. I identify myself as a Diamond member and explain that I am just dropping off my luggage. Also, because the doors are open, I don't think the Room Stewards want to accept responsibility for any items or luggage that is dropped off.
  12. I'm with you, Colorado Beach Bum, I am Diamond on Carnival and have sailed on almost every ship in the fleet numerous times and have never experienced air conditioning problems like I did on the Horizon. I have had staterooms where maintaining a cold temperature was not possible but never in the interior common areas of the ship. It seemed that the mid-ship and aft sections were the warmest areas. Our family members had staterooms in the forward section of the ship on different floors and they said that their staterooms were nice and cold.
  13. We sailed on the Horizon in May 2022 and had the same experience. We went to JiJi's for lunch one day and the wait line flowed down the hall and into the elevator area and it was hot. By the time we were seated for lunch, sweat was pouring down my face. We thought it might have been a fluke so went the next day for lunch at Cucina del Capitano which is across the hall from JiJi's and it was hot in there also. If we walked through the Lido Marketplace area from the mid-ship doors near Blue Iguana to the aft pool area, you could feel the temperature change halfway to the aft buffet area and it was hot back there. Also the Ocean Plaza area was uncomfortably warm and so was the Havana Bar area. The casino was always very warm and I kept moving from machine to machine until I found a cooler area. Our stateroom was always cold and would become our refuge on this cruise. I spent more time in my room when showering or changing clothes than on any other cruise I have been on. We're sailing on the Horizon again in November and don't really expect the problem to be fixed by then. It seems like an ongoing problem if people are still experiencing the warm temperatures in the interior venues.
  14. My experience with Carnival on cruises that I booked the second person in my room as a TBD, I was informed that I needed to identify or cancel that person prior to final payment date or I would be charged a penalty.
  15. Other scenarios I have had to deal with is the name change fee....that is another reason why I always book the second person in my room as a TBD. Paying the full fare for the invisible second person in my room is bad enough, I'm trying to avoid any additional fees.
  16. I believe that if you cancel a person already booked in your stateroom, you will get a refund of taxes and port fees regardless of when you cancelled. I have read numerous threads on CruiseCritic that suggest you wait until you are checking in on sail date to cancel someone booked in your stateroom as a "no show" without incurring a penalty fee. I don't know if other cruisers have had the same experience but the Rep definitely told me that I would incur a penalty before she talked to her supervisor. Now, this happened when Carnival was anxious to sail full and did not charge me a penalty. She did not tell me how much the penalty fee would have been.. I have another cruise booked for November on Carnival and again, the second person in the room will not be able to travel. I called Carnival prior to final payment and advised them there would only be one passenger in the stateroom and I was advised the same thing. I was told that if I had waited until after final payment , I would have incurred a penalty. Has anyone been charged a fee when cancelling a "no show" at check-in at the port?
  17. We always called CCL and gave them a list of names and booking #'s of people we wanted to sit with in the MDR and they linked our bookings together, easy peasy..
  18. I sailed on Carnival in April and had to cancel my grandson who was not able to go. I was thinking about just having him be a "no show" upon check in but called Carnival instead 5 days after I had made final payment to cancel him from my booking because I know the ships are capacity controlled. The Carnival Rep I spoke to said because it was after final payment, she would have to charge me a penalty and refund the taxes and port fees. She put me on hold and came back after about 10 minutes and said she spoke with her supervisor and asked for permission to cancel the penalty fee but informed me that in the future, any cancellations made after final payment would be charged a penalty fee. Now, whenever I book a cruise, I designate the second person in my stateroom as a "TBD", (to be determined).
  19. Thank you, Hoosierpop. One person in our group will require wheelchair assistance.
  20. Does anyone know if wheelchair assistance is available to disembark the ship and return on a B2B?
  21. Chocolate milkshake with a Kahlua floater from the coffee shop, yum. The ice cream shop in Cherry on Top is similar to a Stone Cold Creamery, you pick your flavor of ice cream and they fold in your desired add-ins....nuts, hot fudge, sugar cone pieces, M&M's, etc. The ice cream is delicious and well worth the few extra dollars.
  22. mz-s: I agree, so much food wasted. When I sailed on the Horizon in April this year, they ran out of bananas on the 3rd day and cartons of chocolate milk by the second day. I asked a team member if he could find me a chocolate milk carton and he came back with chocolate milk in a pitcher, don't know where he got that from but it tasted funky.
  23. Guy's would be a good location to offer "grab & go" breakfast sandwiches. On port days, people are rushing trying to get buffet food before they disembark. Offering pre-made sandwiches and hash brown patty similar to fast food restaurants would be great. The hot dogs from the Deli are delicious and you can load it up with chili, onions, sauerkraut, etc.
