Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I was loooking at the Silverseas cruise (Endevour ?) that starts and ends in King George island. I assume you have to take a flight to get there. True?
  2. I was just hoping to save the 4 days on the Drake passage (2 days each way) when the real interesting part is Antarctica itself. We’ve already been to Ushuaia on other cruises as well as Bounos Aires and Uruguay, chili etc.
  3. Hi We are thinking of booking an Antarctica cruise for 2025 or 2026. At this point I think we’d like to avoid sailing through the Drake Passage and to find a cruise line that starts and ends in/Antarctica. For example I see that the Silverseas Endeavor starts/ends in King George island. Does anyone else know of others that do that? We’ve cruised south answer twice, so we feel there’s no need to repeat that. Suggestions? thanks in advance.
  4. Thanks. But what if you want to book a cruise that’s not on that list?
  5. Hi We have a single friend who is interested in a Regent cruise but traveling on her own. How does Regent handle pricing for a cabin with only one person? thanks in advance.
  6. Hi, We love Regent and have been on 6 Regent cruises with several more booked. So far all the Regent ships we have sailed on or have booked are Explorer, Splendor, and Grandeur (coming up next year). We have never sailed on Voyager. However we are considering an itinerary for next year. For those who sailed Voyager recently, what are your thoughts? I realize it’s about 50-60 passengers smaller with I think one less restaurant. That’s ok. Any other thoughts on quality of cabins, staff, etc? thanks
  7. They already said they won’t do that. They said they are going to have reciprocal arrangements with several countries who make it difficult on Brazilians. They don’t want to make it easy since we don’t make it easy on them. Again that’s why we canceled. They have been hinting at a several month long process possibly requiring a face to face interview.
  8. This is the exact reason we cancelled. Our cruise was to be December with a final payment due July. You can’t even apply for a visa till at least Oct 1. They say it could take 2-3 months to get the visa. We canceled. Screw them. They want to make the process as difficult as the US makes it on them.
  9. None that I know of. That’s why we just canceled our cruise that would have made stops in Brazil. Instead we’re going elsewhere. Maybe someday we could re-evaluate.
  10. I have the same concern. I posted this on a Facebook group I’m in but no replies yet. Hi, For those US citizens cruising to Brazil later this year, after Oct 1, 2023, have you gone through the new visa process? At the moment US citizens can visit Brazil with nothing more than a US passport since they dropped the Brazil eVisa in 2019. However, starting on Oct 1, 2023, Brazil is reinstating a visa requirement for US citizens which seems complex compared to how it used to be with the eVisa. When we last visited/cruised to Brazil in 2018, we were able to obtain an evisa almost immediately online. Now it seems they want a lot of documentation such as: Proof of paid accommodation Proof of financial resources Proof of onward or return ticket I'm wondering if anyone here has gone through this process for a post Oct 1, 2023 cruise.
  11. Does anyone know if there were any issues related to how clean cruise ships hulls are before sailing into sensitive areas around Norway? Recently at least 7 different cruise ships were denied entry into New Zealand waters due to bio-fouling, which is marine life growing on hills. Norway also has sensitive marine areas. We sail there this summer. I wonder if any such issues came up last season like summer 2022. thanks
  12. We were on the previous Explorer cruise from Sydney to Auckland. We only visited Melbourne from the original itinerary. All due to bio foul issues. The result is that Regent refunded all cruise portion of our fare. Thus we had something like 12 sea days instead of any NZ ports. I suspect the current passengers will receive a similar refund if this continues as it seems.
  13. Yes it’s true. We are heading to Adelaide to clean our hull. They said we should hear from corporate via a letter in our staterooms as soon as they determine a revised itinerary as well as compensation. Many many passengers are upset that we may not get to see NZ and the fiords, etc. Many want a full refund since this Sydney to Auckland cruise is nothing like we all expected when we paid so much $$. People also feel that Regent should have known the appropriate laws. After all, another NCL ship (Spirit) has arrived in Auckland. Why could they get into NZ and not us?
  14. I have the same question, why can’t Oceania and Regent dock at the new terminal? is it really that out of the way or is the port only wanting big ships ?
  15. Has anyone sailed on the Beatrice since it was refurbished in 2018? Your thoughts? Thanks
