  1. I've been reading about PVPs. In the past we've used a travel agent. Our first cruise we were basically clueless and she certainly helped us and we were impressed with the bottle of wine she sent to our cabin as a gift. Two years later we took another cruise and again booked with her. We also had three cabins, since we took our kids and my in laws joined us. By then I was doing all my own research and hardly called her. And we didn't get any in cabin gift (not that that's a deal breaker but it was nice).

This time I don't see the need to book with her at all, but I would like someone to call with questions. I'm thinking a PVP may be the way to go. What are the advantages vs booking yourself? I know people day there are good ones and bad ones. Can I ask for recommendations of one or is that even allowed here? Thinking no since we can't mention travel agents.

  2. I don't think the part about price drop us correct. It is too late for early saver in August (unless op meant august 2016)' date=' so the price paid would be the price paid.

However, I do agree that if you are good with the current price, just book it. The price could go down, if the ship is undersold, but, it could also go up a lot.[/quote']

My bad. Didn't notice they mentioned August.

  3. It all depends on the type of cabin you choose. If one type of cabin is selling well and close to sold out, they may raise the price. If it's not selling well it will get lowered. If you have your heart set on a specific type of cabin and you're ok with the price now, it's best to book now. If the price drops you can fill out a form and send it in and get the difference as On Board Credit which will go toward what you spend on the ship.

  4. Just wanted to state for the record, this was a thread about how to specifically handle what we had already decided to do. It wasn't to ask for opinions or be judged. My kids are both good with money. I haven't given either an allowance for years. Both have worked since they were about 11. First babysitting and refereeing soccer games and now bussing tables and being a home health aid. The older one pays for her own gas, spending money and books, which as a nursing major are not cheap. I don't need to be judged for treating them to a vacation and some spending money.

  5. They will have the option of "blowing it" on whatever they want, but I think my question was more like this specifically. Can I put a certain amount on each person's account in advance, not the cabin as a whole? And if they don't spend it (I'm sure my younger one won't) can I get it back? And then can they pay the rest with their own debit card? I don't necessarily want limits, just a limit on what I spend. Although I'm sure with these limits, they'll be drinking less.

  6. We just made the decision to do a Carnival cruise next August (2016) for our oldest daughter and her boyfriend as a 21st birthday celebration and our younger son as a high school graduation gift. The subject came up about how much the older two are allowed to spend on drinks and if there was an unlimited package. We'd like to treat them to a reasonable number of drinks, but we feel the Cheers package could either be abused or simply not worth the money. So, we figure a budget of $25 per day is reasonable and for my 18 year old as well. Obviously he won't be drinking, but why should they have a bigger budget because they are?

So, is there a way to pre-pay their account by a certain amount per person and not per cabin? And then have any unused funds (probably for my younger one) be refunded?

  7. We've decided to do a Carnival cruise next August and have already picked out ship and itinerary. I'm comfortable with the fares now, but not ready to book. The non-refundable deposit is holding me back, since we have older teenagers and won't know their plans until at least January. One is a senior in high school and we don't even know where he'll be at school next year or when he needs to show up on campus. So dates are pretty certain, but not set in stone yet.

So, not having any experience with Carnival, are fares likely to go up? Or is the Early Saver fare expected to stay consistent until it's five months out? I think that's when I read it goes away, but not sure.

  8. Hi disneyfan68. Just curious. I noticed on a different thread that you mentioned you had MTD reservations between 7 and 8:30 each night. We will be on Freedom in a few weeks and when I went to make my MTD reservations ahead of time there was no opening between 6:45 and 8:30. Did you make yours ahead of time or when you boarded the ship? I've heard complaints that people have tried to make reservations for this time on a daily basis and were told they couldn't.
