Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. very interesting variety of responses 1995 Maasdam to European Capitals with our sons 1993 inaugural Statendam to Baltic with 3 generations 1992 Royal Caribbean to Western Caribbean with our sons 1990 Royal Caribbean Sun Viking to Alaska with our elementary school age sons and leaving soon for Celebrity transatlantic, with continuing service to the fjords, and crossing back on QM2. nothing can quite match those first few trips, but cruising is still the best of times.
  2. Thank you for useful suggestions, will do further research.
  3. It’s fine and it’s quiet. It’s a Hampton. Staff very nice a year ago. Coffeemaker, microwave, fridge, spacious bathroom and room, with plenty of space for loads of luggage overnight. Restaurant on 2nd floor.
  4. we park at terminal. Very convenient. Last trip, our return berth changed and cruise line provided shuttle to departure parking garage.
  5. We stayed here after long international flight. Yes, Publix shopping center easily accessible. First Watch also there, but breakfast and lunch only, closes by 2-3 pm. for interesting, good and historic, Uber over to coral gables to the Biltmore Hotel for a meal. Staying there is a different price range, probably better for a weekend not a night. The shuttle driver last year gave us discount card for Cuban restaurant, ask for what is available. best feature of this close-to-MIA hotel, is the soundproofing. You can see the jets, but do not hear them!
  6. Thank you everyone. Comments were sufficiently thorough to make us reconsider. Decision is to just pack his own tux- and go with third large case for the wardrobe ( mostly mine). Tux and shirts went to cleaners today. Tux can always attend Chic Nights for first two cruises on Celebrity. (thought it would be a process like HAL in the 90s when we submitted sizes, and reserved tuxes for college aged sons. tuxes were delivered to their stateroom upon embarkation, and left in garment bags in cabin at end of cruise.)
  7. Thank you all. Your replies have been most helpful.
  8. Wondering why people do this? Just to change it up a bit! And, because the dining rooms are so pretty, and the specialties of each are interesting, although imo not as good in 2024 as2019. And we do run into staff we remember and enjoy from other trips. We love the ambience of Normandie especially, but enjoy visiting the others too. We check all the menus and roam from Luminae to specialty restaurants to Blu to MDRs . Although very good, the menus haven’t changed much over the years in Luminae.
  9. Could not find a better forum for this question, but, has anyone used a reliable car service from Brooklyn up to Westchester? ( not fond of Uber/ Lyft with lots of luggage.)
  10. First time on QM2 TA. Website says (rental) tuxes are available on board. I cannot find any ordering information. Has anyone had experience with this service? ( Just trying to lighten the luggage on long trip to different places!)
  11. I received the email and enjoyed the curated collection . What a creative approach to cruise wardrobing. But alas, I would have participated in the past, but after the big Covid interruption, lengthy cruising opportunities are limited. (Still clipping tags off purchases from2019 that never got to take a trip!)
  12. Have always enjoyed the salon, and have been fortunate to have had good stylists- from all over the world, male and female.I am amazed at how versatile ship styliists are. Before Covid, we loved long cruises and I had hard to maintain color-treated hair. I had cuts, root touch ups and many blow dry stylings. I had my home town colorist write down specific formula for color to help explain my color to on board stylist. I have used kerastase products for years and really can recommend that product line. Talk to the stylist. I’ve found many of them have had very good experience in their home country. I hope this helps reassure you about using the ship salon. It is very convenient too, just a few steps away, and rarely a wait. I usually only buy products if we are driving home from the port.
  13. Onboard tip form, to use with OBC, is available at guest services. The tip is added to next paycheck for specific employee. Tips may only go to Cabin steward and butler, general dining and general housekeeping; tip form cannot be used for your waiter or bus boy, for example.
  14. Yes. I stood at Guest Relations on Reflection about 2 weeks ago while gentleman bought “one more day” of internet.
