  1. Safe travels, and enjoy the Nieuw Statendam - we were on her last August (Iceland/Greenland). Thanks for taking us along with you! Laura
  2. Good afternoon everyone! We were in Seydisfjordur in August 2022 on the Nieuw Statendam. We didn't have any plans that day, so with our cruise friends we got off and walked around the town. ( @cunnorl it's very walkable - I don't like to walk much!!). We passed a VERY small house with amazing carvings in the front yard: Then we walked to the painted street and went to El Grillo to have a local beer and lunch - delicious!! We saw the pretty blue church, but since it was a Sunday we didn't try to go in and disrupt services. We also visited the grocery store with its small selection of items. Overall it was a very cute town, and I'm glad we were able to see so much. Prayers said for so many on our lists (and new ones being added). Cheers to all celebrating and cruising!! Take care of yourselves, Laura
  3. Thanks for taking us along on your cruise - I have really enjoyed your posts from the last cruise! Enjoy Rome and have a wonderful cruise!! Laura
  4. We were lucky to visit Dublin on our Pacific Princess cruise around the British Isles. We took a tour of Dublin Castle, which was amazing: The Throne Room was interesting - see how large the chair is compared to our tour guide!! After that, we went to Trinity College to see the Book of Kells (I won that discussion with DH - he wanted Guinness, but since I worked in libraries for my entire career I won!!). Unfortunately, you're not allowed to take pictures of the book, but it was amazing to see: We then had lunch at The Duke pub, and of course had to have Smithicks with our Irish Stew! We'll be back in Dublin in April on the Regal Princess....not yet sure what we'll do, but I have a feeling it will definitely include Guinness !! Have a great day, Laura
  5. Good morning!! In addition to @richwmn Rich's days to celebrate, today is the 248th birthday of the US Marine Corps. I will be sure to wish my DH a very happy birthday today before he goes to dinner with his other Marine friends. (and a happy birthday wish to @Copper10-8 John!!) Prayers for those in need, cheers to everyone feeling well and sailing or soon to be sailing. Take care of each other!! Laura
  6. Roy, safe travels to Florida, and enjoy the cruise! I'll be following along as usual. Laura
  7. Start with a glass of Moscato Shrimp Tempura Lobster Crab fried rice Fruit YUM!! (much better than my leftovers tonight!!)' Laura
  8. Looking forward to following your cruise - and the "what's for dinner" quiz!! Laura
  9. Rabbit Rabbit White Rabbit!! Good morning from a chilly Long Island - it's 40F now, but only going up to the mid 40s today...after the hot summer we had, this feels great! We've been to Juneau on each of our 5 Alaska cruises. We did see the USS Juneau monument on the pier (it was torpedoed and sunk at Guadalcanal in 1942. The 5 Sullivan brothers were all lost on the ship) We've visited Mendenhall Glacier, taken the Mt. Roberts Tram, went to the Red Dog Saloon, and spent time walking around town. I'm not including pictures of these, since they'd be the same as others have posted. in 2017 on our 14 day Amsterdam cruise, we went on a whale watching tour. We were treated to a bubble net feeding by a pod of whales...even the crew on the boat were excited and taking pictures! We've loved our trips to Alaska, and would go back, but there's so much else to see in the world! Prayers for all our friends and family needing healing. Cheers to so many lucky people cruising now! Hoping everyone has a good November!!! Laura
  10. Thanks so much for taking us along on your cruise! We'll be on the Regal in April on a British Isles cruise. Your pictures are fantastic - they really give a good look at the ship. Looks beautiful!! Laura
  11. Good Saturday morning! Bald day is celebrated here - both DH and younger son are "hair challenged!!" Older son takes after my side of the family, was born with a full head of hair and still has it. Love eggs, and meatloaf will probably be on the menu tonight - thanks for the suggestion! We've been to Victoria 4 times, and enjoyed our visits. On our first visit in 2008 (Amsterdam 7 days), we were traveling with DH's two sisters. His older DS and I went to high tea at the Empress Hotel (excellent!), and he went with his younger DS on a pub crawl, to 3 different pubs. On our second visit in 2012 (Amsterdam 14 days), we went to Butchart Gardens. If you get to Victoria, you really have to see it!! DH wasn't sure about going, but once we got there he couldn't wait to see it all. It really is amazing. I envy @VictOriann Ann who can visit as often as she likes! We were in Victoria again in 2017 (Amsterdam 14 days), but don't have any different photos to share. We did visit Butchart Gardens again (as my DH's request)....and this time he walked to gardens with a boot due to a broken bone in his foot on the cruise! Our last trip was in 2019 on the Maasdam (21 days), and we decided to do something different...we did a brewery tour. We visited 3 different breweries and tasted some great beers. As you can see, Victoria is one of our favorite ports! Prayers for all ailing, both in hospital and at home. Cheers for all our cruisers and soon-to-be cruisers. Take care of yourselves! Laura
  12. Bon voyage Jacqui! I'm enjoying traveling vicariously with you - enjoy the cruise!! Laura
  13. Rabbit Rabbit White Rabbit!! (I don't usually post on the first of the month, but always remember to say it!) SOOO glad to have the sun out today - I couldn't believe the rain we got over the weekend! It didn't stop raining yesterday until early afternoon. My son's church had their annual Harvest Fair yesterday which went on in the rain - they had tents covering the necessary areas, and most of the stuff (crafts, baked goods, etc) were inside the parish hall. My son said they did very well in spite of the weather! I can definitely agree with coffee day - I'm having my second cup right now. Soon getting ready for church. Prayers for all on our care list....so many with health and family issues. Cheers to those cruising already or getting ready to cruise! Have a wonderful day, Laura
  14. Jacqui, Have a wonderful cruise - I'm looking forward to following along!! Hoping there's no troubles on this one! Laura
  15. Good morning Dailyites!! Happy first day of fall - on Long Island we're getting the start of Ophelia, with rain, wind, and high surf. A good day to stay indoors! We were in St. Anthony last August on our Nieuw Statendam Iceland-Greenland-Canada cruise. We didn't have any plans, just got off the ship and wandered around the town. Since it was a Sunday, there wasn't much open - even the local pharmacy was closed! We did find a brewpub in town, and enjoyed a flight of beer with a (large!) order of wings. Food and drink were good, and the staff were so friendly! We did walk around the area near the port, and saw the local church and a war memorial It was a nice port on a beautiful day! Prayers for all in need, hoping for healing for our friends and family. Cheers to all the cruisers - we have to wait until April for our next cruise, so it's good to follow along with those enjoying the sea now. Take care, Laura
  16. Terry, I'm so sorry to hear that Lou has passed. I don't post often but read everything every day, and he (and your family) have been in my prayers. Hoping that the memories are good. Take care, Laura
  17. Good morning! Happy Airborne Day, I'm not good with jokes, and NO WAY I'll be on a roller coaster!! We were in Akureyri last year on our Nieuw Statendam cruise. We went to Dimmuborgir, the Lava Labyrinth (LOTS of non-biting midges, glad we were still wearing masks!!!), then the area of fumeroles, and finally to Godafoss waterfall. It was a great tour on a fantastic cruise! Prayers for all in need, cheers to all celebrating. Congratulations @grapau27 on England's World Cup win. Take care of yourselves and each other!! Laura
  18. Good morning! Love Best Friends Day....I'll be visiting with mine in September! She lives in NC, and we try to get together at least twice a year, once down south and once in NY. @grapau27Graham, your garden pictures are beautiful - what a beautiful relaxing location! We've been to Hubbard Glacier a few times on our 5 Alaskan cruises. The last one (Maasdam, 2019), we took an excursion on a small boat to get closer to the glacier. When we've seen it from the cruise ship, it looks like we're right near, but when you get on a small boat you realize exactly how BIG it is! A few pics from our tour: Prayers for all in pain and suffering, and special prayers for the people of Lahaina. We were there last year, and had lunch at Kimo's on the waterfront and then sat under the banyan tree for a while. Cheers for all celebrating good times! Take care, Laura
  19. My pictures from Cayman aren't beautiful scenery or flowers....we were supposed to have a tour to a beach, but the wind was too high so the cruise cancelled it. Instead, we left at 8:30am for a drinking morning...Cayman Brewery, Tortuga Rum Cakes, and then Cayman Spirits Distillery. Everything was very tasty!! Praying for healing for those in need, with extra prayers for Maui. We were there in April, can't imagine what it will look like now.Cheers for those celebrating, and those cruising now. Laura
  20. Hi Jacqui, I know this is very early, but please add us to the HAL Future Cruise list: Laura and Bill Westerdam South Pacific (Auckland-Vancouver) March 16 - April 27, 2025 43 days!! Thanks so much, Laura
  21. @marshhawk Annie, I can give a personal testimonial for immunotherapy. In 2020 I was diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelomia (usually caused by asbestos, probably in my case from talcum powder). I've been on immunotherapy (Opdivo) since November 2020, and still get infusions every three weeks. Things are very stable, and my oncologist is happy continuing the treatment. I hope Chuck will have a good result from his treatments! Laura
  22. Good early afternoon! It's so nice to be able to breathe with the change in air - we're only in the upper 70s today instead of in the 90s! @ger_77 I have the Ninja Foodie 8 in 1, and love it. It folds up so it doesn't eat up your countertop permanently. We've used it for air frying, baking, broiling, toasting, and a couple of sheet pan meals. Hope you find one that fits your needs and space! Prayers for all our family with medical issues...cheers for our cruisers and others celebrating good things. I'm so happy I have you all as friends, and hope we can meet someday!! Laura
  23. Loving your report, we're doing this in April 2024!! Laura
