Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. We just returned from our Cape Town pre and post cruise vacation. We used www.africanmoonaventures.com and cannot speak highly enough about our time with Ian. There were 6 of us touring together and our air conditioned vehicle was roomy and immaculate inside and out. Ian could change our itinerary based on what we wanted to do and see. On our debarkation cruise day, our scheduled flights home were not until 9:00pm. Ian was able to pick us up at the cruise ship, tour with us all day and drop us off at the airport. His prices are extremely reasonable and we were so pleased with our time spent together. On another note, I agree with koolforkatz about the inexpensive Ubers. We used them several times.
  2. If your kids are on the younger side, they might enjoy the Lumberjack Show in town - very close to the cruise port and you can buy tickets on the spot - or walk up a few blocks to Creek Street. Keep in mind, that it rains a lot of Ketchikan, so keep all options open based on Mother Nature.
  3. I agree with Coral. Do an all day tour with Chilkoot. We have used them twice before and had a very nice time. Note that sometimes it can be cloudy and rainy in Skagway, but as you drive or rail to the Yukon, the sun and blue skies usually appear. At least it did for us on 3 of our visits.
  4. Our cruise + tour is in May - we have never gone to Alaska that early in the season. Usually go in July, August and September. Looking forward to Alaska #5. Enjoy your trip!
  5. Skagway is a great port, especially when you go to the Yukon. Chilkoot does a great job with a shuttle to Carcross, a hearty lunch and then back by train from Fraser. If your timing allows it, do all you can to see the beautiful countryside. What month are you sailing?
  6. We sailed on the Wind for a 2023 Antarctica Expedition cruise - our first SS cruise out of 40+ cruises. We had a wonderful time on the Wind - great staff, expeditions and due to it's small size, we met so many great passengers. We would be first in line to sail to Antarctica again, but the prices have been skyrocketing since we booked our last voyage. We did consider booking the Arctic Expedition while sailing on SS in Antarctica, but can we really top Antarctica (topic for those of you who have done both itineraries)?

    Too early?

We just booked a mid-May 2024 cruisetour. We have been to Alaska 4 times before in the later summer months. Wanted to see more snow in May. Happy to read your comments to confirm our thinking. Beautiful pictures.
  8. We are waitlisted for 2 of our ports in Namibia on the Cape Town to Cape Town in January. I called Silversea and they told me to check with the Shore Excursion desk when we board the ship to see if any spots open up. At least we were able to book our day trip safaris without any issues - but that was many months ago.
  9. We recently booked Asia for February 2025 on the Nova. It's a beautiful ship.
  10. You can also buy these packets at Walmart, Target and even the supermarkets.
  11. As a follow up to my post yesterday, we received an email back from Silversea this morning and they satisfactorily resolved our issues.
  12. It's been 15 days since I emailed SS Guest Relations. I have not heard a word. We just returned from a great cruise to Antarctica. No complaints about the ship or crew. The door-to-door had some issues that need addressing.
  13. pvbmom - which February Wind sailing will you be on? We will be on the February 8th sailing. Thank you Anna32 for your insightful journey. We are very excited.
