We took the train - a few blocks for where we docked. We bought tickets on their app and it was easy and inexpensive ($30 each) - I think the train took about 2 hours. We were in port about 12 hours and spent a glorious morning, early afternoon wandering the canals before taking the train back,

Any insights into a back to back where you aren’t changing rooms, but the port is an overnight? First leg Hong Kong to Seoul, overnight in Seoul and embark on 2nd leg to Tokyo. We are planning to stay in a Seoul hotel. Will we need to do anything aside from letting our room steward know that we won’t be sleeping there?

What about renting a wheelchair to use for the ports? I would think Oceania could set that up. We did that for my Mom years ago with Holland America.

We are booked on a 23-day cruise on Riveria - staying in veranda, not concierge-level stateroom. We’re on 2 cruise segments. We were able to book each specialty restaurant twice (8 total) 45 days prior to sailing.

If you are comfortable going it on your own — we spilt a taxi with another couple and went to the site with a guidebook and had a fantastic time. We found a taxi at the port. Simple and inexpensive!

We try to do the same. We are comfortable with planning our time and using public transport and/taxi's along with private tours if we feel we’d like to educational info. It really paid off for us in Trieste, Italy. Oceania had a bus tour to Venice with free time to explore that was about 8 hours in total time. The price was $350 each. We took a train from the easy to access Trieste station to Venice (2 hours each way) and wandered the city for 5 hours and returned via train - our cost was 60 euro TOTAL! Our seat mates at dinner were so mad at what they had paid. I realize not everyone has the same tolerance for the risk of not getting back to the ship on time, but if you can, you can sure save a lot. Not taking the ship excursions allows us to be able to travel more with our finite travel budget. 💸

We cruised on Nautica in October - a 10 day cruise. We made our 2 allowed reservations (outside stateroom) when they opened up. I was also able to call the dining reservation line for same day tables 2 additional nights. They were later seating times - 8:30, but the maitre d encouraged us to stop in a little early for our table and they worked us in. I loved it! I recommend calling and giving it a try!

If you are in Hawaii in the summer try to get a white pineapple - they are spectacular! You might find them in a farmers market. You can take pineapples to the mainland, just declare it at the airport for inspection for checked or carry luggage. We live on the big island and just took back pineapples from our yard for family in California. Have fun!
