  1. I have read most of the posts in this thread. Personally, I do not see where it is possible to combine the loyalty points of Celebrity, RCL, and Silversea. Imagine how crowded the retreat lounge will be if the loyalty points are combined? People who are now Elite members will be bumped up to Elite Plus, and Elite Plus members will be bumped up to Zenith. During the webinar LHB made the comment that the retreat lounge may already become crowded during peak times since Zenith members are now allowed access to the lounge. Imagine how crowded the lounge will be if a large number of members are added to the Zenith Class. I agree that LHB and Jason Liberty do not know who their Celebrity customers are. I do not think either LHB or Jason Liberty have sailed on a number of celebrity ships. I think that is the problem here in my opinion. I also agree Zenith members should have been sent an invite for questions. A really bad mistake by Celebrity. You want to keep your existing customer base and not alienate them. It does seem odd that the customer experience has gone downhill since Richard Fain stepped back from the day-to-day operation of the company. I still think Jason Liberty does not have the vision for cruising to the detriment of Celebrity's customers and the entire RCG. Just my opinion.
  2. Agreed. the email from LLP was a nice touch. It makes you wonder if the new Celebrity Senior management knows how to maintain that personal relationship with their customers.
  3. Jason Liberty is clearly cheapening the brand. He doesn't have the vision Richard Fain had for the cruise industry. Profits in the short term but at what price? I will look at other cruise lines when booking my next cruise.
  4. I do not understand the reason for these redeployments. It appears the new Celebrity management doesn't seem to know what the cruise line wants to be. As I understood it Celebrity was to be a "Premium" cruise line that competed with the likes of Holland America and Viking. Moving the Equinox to Port Canaveral now seems to be intended towards attracting young families similar to RCL. I am not sure why a family with young children would want to sail on Celebrity since Celebrity is the traditional cruise experience without all the bells and whistles such as an ice-skating rink, sky diving simulators, and rock-climbing walls. Are the Celebrity ships now going to be equipped with these bells and whistles? I do not understand why passengers would want to sail 7-day cruises on the "old" Constellation when Celebrity offers 7-day cruises on brand new ships. I thought the older ships such as the Constellation were to be used on longer itineraries where the ports are the truly the destination and not the ship. It does seem that Laura Hodges Bethge and Jason Liberty are trying to make Celebrity in the image of RCL. I personally think that is mistake.
  5. I would write Celebrity Senior Management. I think that is deplorable. You should have been notified far in advance. Celebrity should have known long before the vacation started that it was overbooked. If I were to guess the cancellation was possibly based on loyalty status. i have never had that happen on Celebrity but did have the same problem on Princess. We were bumped from a land tour of Denali National Park. Everyone that was bumped from the tour was a first-time cruiser on Princess. Below is the email address for Celebrity. executiveoffice@celebrity.com.
  6. I have never stayed in a suite. However, for what Celebrity is charging for the lower classes of suites, I personally think they should give their passengers something for their money by including butler service for all classes of suites. I don't think the suites are worth what they are charging. I have eaten in Luminae as a guest of a suite passenger, I didn't think the quality of food was that much better where i would pay what they are charging. Just my opinion.
  7. The Tundra tour was never posted on the Cruise Personlizer. That was why I had called Princess Cruises to upgrade. Princess made the reservation for us for the Tundra tour. But we were bumped the day before our tour. Somehow, we were not guaranteed a seat on the tour. One woman booked the Tundra tour through Princess Cruises a year and a half before our vacation and she was likewise bumped. Personally, I would call the lodge directly and see what they have to say. I would not rely on Princess Cruises. In 21 cruises with other lines, I have never had this happen to us. My last word on this subject.
  8. Does your cruise tour package include the Natural History tour of Denali? Our Off the Beaten Path Tour N/A included the Natural History tour. I called Princess cruises phone # and paid them the difference in price between the two tours. The Tundra Tour even appeared on our trip itinerary on the Princess website. So I thought we were booked on the tour. Apparently not. After we were bumped someone on our tour found out that you have to call the Denali Princess Lodge in order to upgrade. We thought were booked once we spoke with Princess. It turns out there is a disconnect between Princess Cruises and Princess Land tours. The lodge booked the Tundra Tour and Princess cruises booked people on the Tundra Tour so that they had overbooked this tour. How Princess Cruises decided who to bump from the tour remains unclear but everyone we spoke to, was a first-time Princess cruiser so it appears the decision was based on Captain's Circle Loyalty status. I had written Princess Customer Relations earlier this week asking this question, but Princess has never responded to my email. People on our tour were very upset over the way this was or was not handled. The Natural History Tour was a very good tour because the tour guide was in love with Denali. We thought it would have been even better if we were allowed to get much deeper into the park. You can book the Hop off Hop On Denali Transit buses but the transit buses are not guided tours. You have to reserve a transit bus. They leave from the Denali Bus terminal. Princess has shuttles as i understand it that go to the bus terminal from the Lodge.
  9. I just returned from a Princess Cruise Tour of Alaska entitled Off The Beaten Path Tour # N/A 7 on the June 24 sailing of the Majestic Princess. I just wanted everyone to know that our group of 4 were bumped from the Tundra Wilderness tour without any notice from Princess. We were advised of this cancellation upon check in at the Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge. The party we were traveling with were downgraded to the Natural History Tour. The difference between the two tours is that the Tundra Wilderness Tour goes into the park up to mile post 43 while the History tour only goes to milepost 17. We were told the tour was over booked and thus the need to cancel it without any prior notice from Princess. In speaking with the people on our tour it appears the cancellations were decided on the basis of Princess Captain's Circle loyalty status. I spoke with 5 or six people who were bumped from the tour and all were first time cruisers. One woman i spoke to had booked the Tundra Wilderness Tour through Princess a year and a half prior to the vacation. She said this was her dream vacation and she wanted to see as much of Denali National Park as she could. But she was prevented from doing so. As a result of the failure of Princess to timely advise us of the cancellations we were not given the opportunity of booking alternative tours such the Denali Transit buses or a private Tour of the Park. If anyone booked the Tundra Wilderness Tour through Princess call Princess or the Lodge directly before you leave home so that you can make sure your tour has not been overbooked. Seeing Denali was one of the reasons we had booked this cruise tour of Alaska. In taking 20 cruises with other cruise lines i have never had this happen to me and hopefully it will never happen again. Poor business practices from Princess.
  10. Sorry LDTR but i guess we agree to disagree. In my mind Carnival is a "party ship" targeted to young singles and some families. My personal opinion is that the corporation is restructuring Princess so that it is targeted to families, more like RCL than Celebrity. The new Sun Princess has a sea breeze roll glider, infinite tilt walls, a coastal climb, and a "lookout" similar to the Northstar on RCL.As such, families appear to be the target market. Celebrity ships including the Edge Class do not have such activities. Celebrity is a traditional cruise experience. I admit that HAL itineraries are much longer than Celebrity. I cannot speak for RCL Managment but i think they are trying to squeeze out more profit with slightly shorter itineraries. I personally think Carnival doesn't come close to RCL in terms of innovation, but I admit I am a Celebrity/RCL fan.
  11. First, I am a Celebrity fan. Princess has got to change in order to be competitive with the Royal Carribean Group. Finally, Princess has stopped making every ship the same except for the interior design. It has finally learned to redesign every class of ships differently so that they make the ship the destination. Carnival Corporation is very late to this party. NCL, RCL, and MSC Cruise lines have been doing this for a while now. It is my understanding that Carnival Corporation has decided to have three major cruise lines. First, Carnival, then Princess and last Holland America. Carnival Corporation is structuring the company so that Princess will compete with RCL while Holland America will compete against Celebrity. Personally, I think this strategy makes sense. In order for Princess to compete with RCL it must make cruising a multigenerational experience. Whether you like or dislike the RCL Group, it is the most innovative cruise company out there. Carnival is now rushing to catch up.
  12. I have been following this thread. It is my understanding Richard Fain is still with RCL as their chairman. I thought he was still in charge of the new ship builds while Jason Liberty is handling the day-to-day business of the company. Personally, my wife and I liked both the Apex and the Beyond. We also liked the fact the IV made the cabin feel more spacious. If passengers do not like the IV, Richard Fain the new build department are to blame, not LLP. She has input but she is not the final authority. I would think she has responsibility for the interior design choices. I was surprised was LLP's retirement, but she is 65. Maybe, she figures it's time to enjoy life. If she was let go, i would not think they would let her stay around for another year. Just my thoughts. I have to say we like the Celebrity product and hope it continues as is.
  13. Although i am not a big fan of Carnival owned cruise lines, i do like Princess offerings. i just wonder how come only Princess has such problems. Other cruise lines have Covid on board but not to the degree Princess does. Princess can't be enforcing safety Protocols to have such a large number come down with co-vid. I question whether they are enforcing the mask mandate on board this ship. Their number 1 priority should be the health and safety of their crew and passengers on board their ships. We have a cruise booked for June on the Majestic Princess. It does give one pause as to whether we should cancel. Australia should prevent the ship from sailing in their waters. That's the only way Princess will get the message.
  14. In my opinion, the real question is not whether Carnival Corporation will file for Chapter 11 reorganization but when. Unless they start selling assets i do not see how they can survive with the amount of debt they presently have. This company is SO poorly managed. Micky Arison was successful in buying competing cruise lines but did not make an effort to run them efficiently. He was concerned only with managing the Miami Heat basketball team. Carnival Corporation was his father's legacy. It's ashame he did not attempt to preserve this legacy. In my humble opinion a veteran executive from another cruise line needs to come in and overhaul the company. Maybe this will happen if and when the company files for chapter 11 reorganization.
  15. I am not a Carnival cruiser, but it strikes me that the corporation maybe attempting to cut costs by downsizing or eliminating the Costa Cruise line. Carnival stock is trading at 9 dollars a share due to anticipated reduced demand as a result of the recession. The corporation therefore needs to cut costs. There was an article on the internet that Carnival was also trying to sell Seaborn Cruises. I guess we will know tomorrow when Carnival reports quarterly earnings.
