  1. Glad the past one worked out. My favorite in Ketch is seeing the eagles from the crab boat tour. Totem Bight State Historical Park (alaska.gov) is a quick city bus ride from Ward Cove away from town if time allows. sightcrr
  2. Depends on if the black bears are eating salmon in the streams then no. If no bears then yes.
  3. I would book the 0800. the 630 has the risk of not being able to see much because of fog. Search youtube for video of the ride. May want to think about taking your own eye protection from the 60mph wind.
  4. Just noticed that you are at Ward Cove in Ketch. fyi that is at least a 20 min bus ride to downtown. It might be better now but in years past the bus rides had long waits to get back onboard and actually seeing things was quite reduced.
  5. Make sure you read up about Skagway and the results from last years rock slid. I think that RRA last year was a tender. Not sure about this year. Then Juneau has just limited visits to 5 ships per day. Several ships may be shuffling ports. sightcrr
  6. We are getting conflicting info for cruise in Jul about Mykonos. Is there a port site that will have info about dock or tender and how many other ships with times? TIA sightcrr.
  7. To anyone interested in tours in AK go to youtube and search. Just about every tour available has a video done by private folks so you can skip the ad ones. Then you can see if the tour matches what you can and want to do. My view is to get the cheapest cabin you can and spend your money on tours. sightcrr.
  8. If going to South America make sure to read about the southern cross. Then look for it. It points to the star over the south pole similar to the north star over the north pole. sightcrr
  9. yes, that is correct. The photo from above shows about the closest to land and no going ashore. Deception Island was as far south as NCL Star got.
  10. Stanley 26 Jan 23, NCL Star & HAL O-Dam.
  11. For another source of info check the web cam of HAL Oosterdam on 26 Jan at 20:10. Turn off the auto rotate and you can zoom and tilt. You can check other ports also on different days. Webcam Holland America Line - Oosterdam - PANOMAX 360° Our group was on the NCL Star and got some great shots of the ship from O-dam. Ship started running tenders early and got on one of the first tenders close to 0700 before the ship tours. The O-dam camera puts the Star to shame. sightcrr
  12. Make sure you are reading the time to the right port. Google map says 35 min. Av. Ramón Castillo 13 to Ezeiza International Airport - Google Maps sightcrr
  13. Report of a real drive by 15-29 Jan 23. NCL Star with about 2400 passengers. Across Drake to west of Snow island (not Snow hill island) then east to around south side of Deception Island then further east to tour inside of Admiralty Bay. Then 200 mi northeast to Elephant Island. Then Stanley. Hardly any rough waters and none of our party got seasick. Not much of Antartica but also nowhere the $8K price per person point.
  14. One more idea. May not be easy with four. We struggled with 3 but think we got it worked out. Haven't gone yet and hoping for good weather. VOLUNTEER POINT, FALKLANDS - Going by helicopter to see King Penguins - YouTube
  15. We have all seen the damage from the outside to the windows but I wonder if there was failure to the non structural bulkheads that may have contributed to the injuries.
  16. I would look into Skagway helo glacier landing in case the Juneau trip gets canceled. Several nice hiking trails if you are into that type of thing. My suggestion would be to tell her at Christmas so she can read up on things to do, what to see and watch youtubes. Because of lots to do don't wait until the last minute for planning and have at least one backup plan for each stop. It seems like you are getting a good start. sightcrr.
