  1. I know this to be true-- whether grappa, scotch, tequila Have a friend whose drink is fine tequila. Total respect for her and her knowledge When adding to our bar set up-- I have to research, as I don't have 'go -to's" at my fingertips. I should probably do that and add to a list/pdf etc so that ifkyk list is correct. Understand like others, mixing vs straight, temperature etc matters. TYVM for the link
  2. Looks perfect.Love the overhang for shade
  3. Yes our MSC butler was excellent at stocking our choices. In fact said that in spite of pre sail forms etc sent, that he liked to check and bring exactly what we wanted. A great gin martini is always in fashion. Gin Gibson too. I'd use the tequilla to wipe things down instead of drinking it after learning the hard way in more than once 🍸
  4. You have a retractable TV at the end of the bed? Nice suite
  5. Looking fwd to reading. We enjoyed our Regent sailing several years back (AK/inner passage) Big difference in ships/price tag etc. We enjoy YC, and do our best to avoid spring break. And I do call attention (via Concierge/YC Dir/Security) of child issues... Others kids (or adult bad behavior alike) should not encroach on my vacay.
  6. Enjoying your thread as we sail on a TA in a little over a month on Prima. Wile the ships differ, the menus and dailies give some insight. Re kids-- now that ours are adults, we do try to sail when other peoples kids are in school. Usually MSC YC and week long in Feb-early March which gathers more int'l pax in YC and few if any families. That said, we recently had 2 sailings and the large groups of18 adults traveling for birthday etc were LOUD and we'd ask to be seated as far away as possible in the YC dinning room...and we moved on both the lounge and pool decks to be away from them. Worse than kids. As I understand it--kids under 16 are not to be on Haven deck/in Haven pool? Right? Isn't that the published rule? If I remember from our early cruising days, the Carnival Serenity deck had a no under 21 rule yet may be off on that. On one MSC YC sailing I did complain to concierge that a couple had an infant in the YC pool (children under a certain age are not allow in ship pools per health code/maritime etc) I was patient while mom/dad took pics of the very little/very young one... Yet no, I don't want to be in a pool with diaper leaks/toddle p... Feel the same way about the other side of the spectrum in adult diapers. So I am an equal opportunity "don't p in the pool" gal. Love you pics of the fam and glad the girls and y'all are having such a great time. Great humor.. and no "Girl Scout Cookies -yet great engagement"
  7. Interesting. Does that After Glow go late? Was sorry to read in your initial post that MSC YC disappointed. The description of the kids hasn't been our experience with 8 sailings in spring on MSC in YC. Enjoying your thread and the pics. TYVM
  8. Yes this While we don't go to many shows etc, the ones we do choose were those. Not game shows. I gather NCL may find that audience participation was a touchstone for some cruisers. We don't gamble either--just not our thing. Though a good game of duplicate bridge, I am in (and often 20 yrs younger than the rest at the game) We are getting ready for a TA on Prima and I am wondering besides reading, if I need to bring Uno cards because there is no entertainment onboard! ha
  9. The cookies thing cracks me up-- never something I look for or eat on a cruise. Same for the bowls of M&Ms or gummy bears etc offered in Haven that people ask about or post pics... Just not what I'd want for snacking. Cruising offers so many choices and there is always something for everyone. 🍇
  10. Jockeys were part of the rearranging as I recall, and fake geese etc. Know of a yard that dressed their fake geese basked on the holidays and seasons. Back to the magnets-- I had put small flipflops on the doors of our cabins for a family sailing. 1 pr per person/so 4 tiny pieces on each door of the neighboring cabins. One morning we awoke to find them distributed down the hall on the doors like they were walking 😆 I suspect the OPs magnets, being unique were indeed pilfered. Can't imagine taking and then keeping a stolen item. Yet crime is rampant even when its petty
  11. And it was before FB/IG, the "tube", selfies etc so none of those silly things went on into immortality. Only bad hairstyles in yearbooks survived unless already in the trash😜
  12. "Back in the day", a neighbor teen and her friends would rearrange the lawn ornaments, gnomes, fake deer etc during the night... could be picnic-ing on a lawn together, or in different yards...never destructive. Just silly teen pranks. Those said teens are now in their 60s... so maybe the magnets travel too? 😆
  13. Show has continued to be on our app for our sailing in Apr Just hoping there is more than this show in the theater
  14. Has this changed? As we sailed FtL to Barcelona and did have to present at passport control in the port at Barcelona (US cit not EU) It was smooth Here in FL ports the facial recogn makes it go quickly at disembarkation
  15. We noticed that on Seashore last month and yet on Divinia this past week there were lots of folks from the EU and all announcements were in E/F/D/S/I and at the YC and Diamond events greetings also included portuguese. In dining, the servers often sang HBD in 2-3 languages each time...
  16. We just got off ship today. Menus generally follow the same pattern-- from ship to ship. Embarkation day etc The is no gala/elegant night on short sailings. When you embark, ask the maitre D for the menu of the night you want to use your Diamond perk. We did learn this week that not every specialty restaurant is available for the Diamond perk. This may vary ship to ship. We aren't certain if its a new policy or just ship variance
  17. Saw that. Really, have you ever seen an underfed cruiser on a ship? Me neither. Is it ship-wide or just Haven? Guess this is a way to deal with food waste. In our experience the lobster is warm water tails - so different in texture-flavor Of course if you have prepared lobster at home, you know, timing is everything re tough vs tender vs stingy vs mushy even with cold water Maine Tails or whole cold water lobsters.
  18. Just realized this OP posted this Twice and there are two active threads. Maybe mods can merge them?
  19. Sailing out of the US, We didn't have that issue. The tails in YC were NOT listed as cold water Maine-- and we knew they were warm water ... Same for the steak house. Lobster rolls filling/lobster salad--I am guessing they buy it as vacu-sealed picked over lobster meat like the kind we can all buy online. And likely the same purveyors as the cases of tails. I do expect that substitutions can an will be made based on what gets put on the ship at embarkation. And shortages. Know that to be the case with liquor and wine..and certainly for produce.
  20. MSC policy is rude? Or sharing the link is rude? 🤣
  21. Are you booked in YC? Will be interested to hear you thought svs Haven On short sailings there is no lobster night per se. Even in YC On week long and longer there is often 1 night a lobster tail option for entree. I believe you can add on a lobster tail at the steak house specialty dining. As far as a special request-- we saw a group in YC on the Merav demand that they be able to have a special lobster dinner.... (short sailing) and kept saying well on so-n-so line--- they do it for us... They were told they would have to pay for the case of tails --because while they had a party of 8, lobster was not being served in the YC dining for that sailing. They may quite a scene both in the lounge and again in dining that night-- were loud and boorish. FWIW, they also came dressed in shorts to dinner which is a no-no in YC dining. We were glad when they disembarked (we had B2B2B2Bs) All this is to say-- depends on embarkation, length of cruise etc even in YC
  22. @Momto3girlsintheCarolinas welcome to MSC. and to Cruiscritic. Lots of helpful folks here. Hope your vacation is lovely.
  23. The MSC website offers a lot of information. This tab and links should help https://www.msccruisesusa.com/manage-booking/before-you-go/what-to-wear
  24. Can be interesting if they launch And ships can impact launches We were on a sailing and leaving Port Canaveral and the launch was scrubbed because another ship was out in the atl and in a area that --if something went wrong - it wouldn't be safe. It was quite the controversy.. how those things are scheduled, port schedules, spacex schedules etc Left us all wondering
