Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Do the shore excursions generally sell out? Group of 8 people, 2 divers; once we book our dives (and know when we are diving) then would like to book the excursions (particularly for my dear wife who is not a diver). Will most excursions still be available once we get onboard? When we did our last PG cruise 7 years ago, dove several 0800 dives, which allowed me to still have breakfast and go on an excursion with my DW and booking once we were aboard did not seem like an issue.
  2. Years ago we enjoyed the beach bar at Public beach (Calico Jacks?), last year on our stop to Cayman Island, it was closed, food truck at public beach was OK. For a few beers, a local went and got us some (plastic bag with ice and local beers) not cheap but a cold beer with that seven mile beach view can't be beat.... wondering if there is a store near the port tender drop off where one could grab a few cans of beer then take the bus (van) to public beach.... OR perhaps a beach with a beach bar that is still open where one can get chair, umbrella and a few adult beverages in the unbelievable 7 mile beach sand/water?
  3. Thanks ALL, love Cruise Critic, just upgraded classic to premium for my wife's and my drink package for just over $150 total including tips for our January 9 day cruise!!!!!
  4. We leave this weekend for Bucharest to Budapest (so excited), also very interested in any updates on water levels on that part of the river.
  5. Thanks LeeJND4 for checking with the ship "every single diver, regardless of age, health or experience, needs to have the medical form filled out and signed by a doctor" is much clearer than the form or the website (never would have gotten to needing a doc with all "No's" without this thread)..... OK yes I am old, so yes for old, but no for the associated block than once again leads to no.... Thanks Minidonuts85 for feedback on what your doc said.... pretty sure I will have the same experience. Have to see the doc for my annual checkup before the trip anyway 🙂 It definitely was not this hard in 2016 with PG or with anyone else I have been diving with..... but if that is what it takes I'll jump through those hoops, they were great dives in 2016.
  6. Greeting and thanks for the head up on the medical forms, but now I am very confused, when I go to the PG website, the form for certified divers is still the one with "over 45 yes, go to box b" box b all no so should not need a doctors signature. The other boxes all lead me down the same path, no doctor needed. We are cruising PG next April, my annual physical is in January so I assume I can get my PCM to sign the form, just not sure what to tell him for "why", as I fill out the form I end up with a no doc required, is he just verifying I filled it out correctly or is there another from I am missing? Cruised PG in 2016 and the dives were great and don't want to chance missing out this time. Is there a link to the second form (if the one I see on the website is not enough)? If someone going this fall can confirm with the dive shop what they desire, I would greatly appreciate it!
  7. Last fall when we boarded, we were dropped off west of the Hilton (a block east of the cruise port entrance, easy walk). When we debarked, we turned right on exit and walked east towards waterside/townpoint park and the Uber driver was able to easily grab us. The dropoff circle was mobbed, but as already stated, a block or so away disperses the traffic and seemed to work well.
  8. I would recommend you try a discovery dive.... 20 years ago my family (wife, 10 and 12 year old daughters) did a discover dive in the Caribbean. Younger daughter loved it, wife and 12 year old thought is was just OK. My younger daughter thought it was worth the time and effort to get certified and so we did and have been diving ever since (I am now 59). A discover dive gives you the chance to try it with very little investment and time out of your vacation and see what you think. What I love most about diving on PG is in many ports, I can do a 1 tank dive in the morning and be back in time for a late breakfast with my non-diving wife and then do an excursion. That is my plan for again for our second PG cruise coming up spring 2024!
  9. Thank you both for the valuable responses! Last time we did PG was in 2017 and it was pretty much turn key from LAX including flights/transfers/day rooms, seems all of that can be arranged but at a significant additional cost. I don't mind making my own arrangements particularly with the help from members of this board. Sounds like the ship is still as wonderful as it was in 2017 (this was my favorite vacation of all time) .... can't want to be back aboard next spring!
  10. Air France has a flight that departs at 0730 AM, has anyone left the ship 5 am-ish to make that morning flight? If you could leave the night before, don't see any issues leaving very early in the morning, would taxis be available and/or does the ship/Ponant offer an early morning transfer?
  11. Already have the eMED tele-proctored kits that we purchased when it was required.... used the same kits in the spring for our Europe cruise, 30 minutes from call and open package to having results documented in hand. Glad we should not need tests for Bermuda now, but will carry the kits, if they decide at check-in we still need test results, will just step out do the tests and return with results. think we have all the bases covered on this one (assuming we get out Bermuda TA paperwork in time)
  12. Parking at ORF (Norfolk International airport) is currently $11 a day, they just finished a modern expanded garage (and raised the price a dollar). No issue parking there if not flying (nothing links or asks about your flight, pull a ticket when you enter and use it to exit a week later). From the garage head east through baggage claim and out to where the cabs and Ubers pickup/drop off. That is by far the "safest" parking lot to leave a car (however, really nowhere near downtown and the cruise terminal). It is unfortunate that the city and contractor did such a poor job this spring with the security (and response to issues/car damage) .... there are threads detailing those issues. As a Hampton Roads local, we are hoping Norfolk has solved the issues and gets better reports this fall .... improving the cruise experience from Norfolk has the opportunity it increase the cruise ships here which would be good for the city.
  13. Are you saying Magic has a smoke-free casino? That will make DW happy for our upcoming sailing!
  14. yes, right under "total" on the page you are referring to, mine says "On-board Credits"
