Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. We got a day room at the Kon Tiki after our cruise. It's walking distance to the ship. Nothing fancy but clean. You can walk to the market and there are some restaurants close by.
  2. I'm on board now and they will not let you dive without the signed medical statement from your doctor. Some passengers didn't know this and were very angry at the dive center. Also they are very strict about having advanced certification diving below 60 feet. When we were certified back in the dark ages we were certified to 100 feet but they will not let us dive lower than 60. We have dive logs going back 26 years with many deep dives and just dove in March below 60 feet. But it doesn't matter, there county, there rules. So we're only doing one dive in Fakarava and one in the Marquesas. We're doing most of the dives in the Society Islands. Also if you need a refresher dive on this 14 day cruise it wasn't offered until the second week. So you wouldn't be able to dive until then which was another issue that had people angry.
  3. We leave tomorrow for our first trip to French Polynisia. Can't believe it's finally almost here! Thanks to everyone on Cruise Critic for great information and answered questions. Since we're the only ones on our roll call, I guess we'll have the ship to ourselves. 🙂 Last I checked there are some cabins available but most catagories are sold out. The last hurdle is hoping the flights go okay. The airlines don't inspire a lot of confidence these days. The first thing we're going to do when we board is head for the dive center and see what dives we can sign up for. We have our medical questionaire signed and ready to go along with our very thick log book. Happy Cruising!
  4. We recieved the emailed documents about 2 weeks before we got the package in the mail.
  5. That shouldn't be a problem for you. The package was nice, but nothing you couldn't do without. I know they have luggage tags at the dock.
  6. So what are they sending via snail mail? My problem is that I don't have an address to receive any hard copies. We live on a sailboat currently cruising around Mexico, and we don't have a permanent address. Question: did what you received come directly from PG Cruises, or from your TA? Also...I didn't know about White Nights either! Thanks...now I know to pack something white, which I probably wouldn't have packed. 😁 I do have a great Polynesian dress for Polynesian night - I had one made for me in the Market in Papeete many years ago, before my first PG cruise. I haven't had too many opportunities to wear it, so I'm happy to be coming back on the PG so I can get some use out of it! I recieved the package from Paul Gauguin, I booked directly with them. The book has my luggage tags, information about the cruise, deck plans and other information. I didn't know about the White Night until I saw it in the information, it's only on cruises 9 days or longer. I just ordered a white Hawaiian shirt for my husband, I have a white dress I was going to bring anyway.
  7. It's August 12th, I got the package early this week.
  8. On these 2 special nights are nice shorts and sandals allowed for men? What do people usually wear on the white themed nights? I wasn't aware of that one until I got my package from Paul Gauguin the other day which is very nice by the way. I love the zipper pouch with the manta ray.
  9. Thank you for the information. I'll see if I can get in touch with them.
  10. We are interested in taking a half day tour in Tahiti after our cruise since our flight doesn't depart until 9:30 PM. I do have a day room arranged at a hotel. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good tour to take in the afternoon? Also if anyone has been to Taiohae, Nuki Hive in the Marquesas and has a recommendation for tours there. For some reason the one tour available on Paul Gauguin website isn't offered on our sailing. There seems to be very limited options in the Marquesas.
  11. We don't have CMAS or PADI Rescue are there other dive sites we can do without those on Fakarava? We'll bring our dive logs with us for sure.
  12. Thank you for the great information. I may have more questions as I'm planning. I'm glad to hear the PG dive crew is fantastic. We've been diving over for 25 years but mostly in the Caribbean and Hawaii so we're really looking forward to diving on this trip.
