  1. Your luggage is easily already on a cart, and on its way inside the ship. Obviously you don’t make it past the first person at the door to the terminal, but at that point… How can you get to your luggage to retrieve your passport?

Got to wondering about this one while explaining to someone the process of getting from the airport to boarding the ship. Anyone seen this, or heard about it? I know the baggage guys always ask you, but I’m sure there’s people who have forgotten.

  2. Years ago, a member of our party was late, but made it on the ship. But we didn't know that when the ship started moving, and we thought she was stranded.

The ship left on time, which means they didn't pull up the ramp until the last minute. But don't the ropes have to be untied after that happens? Seems like all of that would take at least 5 minutes or so. Which is strange, because it was probably 3 or 4 minutes after the ship started moving that she finally walked into our cabin. Shouldn't have taken all that time for her to walk the length of the ship, but who knows.

Also...at no time did the purser come to our cabin to get her passport. Isn't that standard procedure, to hand passports to the port agent, for pax who aren't checked in?

Those who want to save some money over ocean facing ones, like on O and I class neighborhood balconies.

Right… but on the Oasis class at least, neither the Boardwalk nor Central Park balconies are that close to a pool deck.

That doesn’t look like a balcony to me.  Looks like taken from a pool deck looking across at a ship docked across from them.  EM

Maybe, but I don’t think the other ship would be as close as the balcony in the picture. (If it is in fact a balcony)

Could be a Royal Caribbean oasis class ship, they have those interior balcony's called boardwalk and central park balcony

I’ve been on two oasis-class ships, those balconies aren’t at pool level.

I wonder if the woman passenger will get a free cruise.

She’s going to get a whole lot more than a free cruise.

  7. Other than the obvious gross factor, it's possible that the drinks cooler is the same temp as the morgue drawer. ie the body might have (in 5 days' time) ended up the same either way.

But given that 2-4 people die each week on a cruise ship somewhere (1 out of 150,000 passengers), you'd think that "how many days can a body be kept in the morgue drawer" is a known number by at one or more crew members on every ship. Which implies if death occurs early in a 7-night cruise, the body and relevant passengers need to get off at the next port to get home. If it occurs late in the cruise, then you have the option of staying on board until normal disembarkation.

    Or something like that.

  8. We're taking a shuttle van that won't be making stops. Anywhere in the airport, or at the cruise port, where we can buy a bottle of wine for our carry-on? Looks like airport duty-free store is an option only for arriving international passengers, so not us.

Nearest store I can find at Canaveral is Cape Canaveral liquors, but we won't have much time for Uber to/from, so I'd really like to find something inside the airport or the cruise port.

This is excellent writing.  Sheer joy to read your posts.

The FAQ on the Celebrity website says ages 13 and up can use Persian Gardens if accompanied by parent or guardian.

Can you point me to that?  i couldn't find it on their site.  I found only this on CC:

The Persian Garden features a contemporary design in cool tones of green or blue. It has an age requirement of 16 or older and guests must wear a bathing suit at all times.

ETA:   Never mind, I found this on the X site:

    Q. What is the minimum age for Canyon Ranch® Spa admission?

    A. Persian Garden guests must be at least 16 years old.  Canyon Ranch® Spa welcomes guests ages 13 - 17 when accompanied by a parent or guardian; inquire about our special teen services menu.

I do not know the answer (single, no kids here), but if she is often mistaken for 18 (or older), I would be very hesitant to let her hang out in adult areas even with crew permission. How would you feel if someone started hitting on her as if she was an adult? Just something to ponder.

Since I'll be with her the whole time, the chances of that are near zero.  Not to mention she can handle herself.

  12. We've been offered an upgrade to Aqua Class.  DD will be (barely) 15, but she is often mistaken for 18.   Will she be denied access to the Persian Garden, if we go together?  (rules say guests must be 16)
