Recently we gave the Butler 10$ per person per day. He did a delivery from Asiana twice for us. Room steward got an extra $ 50. concierge got nothing as she annoyed us when we were erroneously delivered transfer tickets in our name. Being honest I asked about them and she said it’s not ours and we won’t be charged. then why was the tags in our name? Since she did little, the tip was lost there. decent thing would have been to comp them since we already had the tix. we easily took the cab to the airport after they said there would no taxis in San Juan

On the Repo to San Juan you could take ship tour for $59 or private tours at $25

On the Dawn Repo and found out the afternoon before that we were going to St Thomas then St Croix. We were the third ship since the hurricane. shops were opened for us. probably deals on jewelry after being closed for two months.

I did it about 8 yers ago at 50 thru a ship sponsored excursion. It was miserable and dangerous because of the torrential rains-think rain Forrest rather than the path itself. We are fit and used to 4000K mountains in NH and had a relay hard time with it. we came back covered in mud!

Agree but taking a cab cuts down on the luggage wait plus not having to deal with hoards of people trying to get through the agricultural scan at the same time.

Thanks for the update. Did you do Megan's Bay? Was there evidence of damage there or did it seem OK?
I did not go to Megan’s Bay but knew skit of people who did. I went shopping instead.

St Thomas had most stores open yesterday. They had few offered excursions since we were given 25 hours notice. The skyway is closed. Most people people went to Megan’s bay

Ahh...I see what your problem is. Your original post opening and closing lines of Please take taxis or local tours from the local people"and "please support the local people and tip well" aren't written out of concern for the Puerto Rican people...you just have a beef because it costs twice as much for a cruise line transfer as does for a taxi for a couple...something that's true anywhere you go...in fact sometimes the cruise line transfer costs more than double.
"Of course if it is free i would take it" says it all.
And what about the vast majority of travelers who have never even heard of Cruise Critic or TripAdvisor, much less use them to help plan their travel? where will they be getting information from?
boy aren’t you nasty All I am trying to say is don’t believe the cruise lines lies that there are no taxis. there are plenty of taxis make the best decision for the individual and support the local economy. Ship transfers are not perfect Today one of the buses missed theJet Blue terminal and the participants had to walk. more people are into internet sites than you think horseman

Lack of taxis was not an issue and I checked it out prior on cruise critic and trip advisor. I had a late flight so I was not worried plus I would have used Uber outside the port. gates.

Of course if it is free, I would take it but given the choice of paying double for a couple i would take local taxi. In fact Ncl mistakenly gave us the transfer, being the honest person that I am I checked and found out it was mistakenly delivered to my room. You would have thought that they would have given it for Freee t that point but then offered to charge my room for them and I said no way

Disagree — more of the money going into NCl coffers and not the locals plus the fact that they lied about no taxis.

Please take taxis or local tours from the local people.NCL tried to tell us there were no taxis and we should take their shuttle for 25 $ per person. Our taxi was 21 plus $. 1 per bag. tours of the city was only $25 with drop off the airport compared to the $50 or person from the ship. please support the local people and tip well.

Our itinerary on the Dawn was changed to 11/11. any suggestions for beaches or any other activities. I was thinking of Rainbow Beach but it sounds like it's in rough shape. No shore excursions posted yet as it is a new port for NCL and we are leaving in 2 weeks

But, how do we know that applies to the 11/3 Dawn sailing?
I did not see that port listed

You actually tipped him ?
Yes but much below the recommended 10pp, per day felt bad for the guy. There was even more mistakes that he made m, suspect he no longer is a butler

Not me.
I had the worst butler in the Dawn last year. He did not answer his phone the few times we called like when our a/c failed. Even when we told him he did nothing. I got action when I contacted the hotel director. The Butler did not bring the gummies until I asked even then it took a couple of days. He ignored requests for snacks and just brought the standard snacks. So his tip reflected our dissatisfaction. I think he was new at the job. other suite guests complained about him as well.
jewelery stores open in St. Thomas
in St. Thomas/St. John

By paying with credit card you could possibly dispute it particularly in St Thomas as it is part of the US. All of the jewelers listed have been in business for many years with a loyal clientele, bad press would not let them be in business long.
